[Bug 1800260] [NEW] close, minimize, maximize buttons look funny

2018-10-26 Thread Jeff Vehrs
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
Release:18.04

Channel:Stable
Version:70.0.3538.67
Updated:10/19/2018
License:Free
Developer: Canonical
Source: Snap Store
Installed Size: 148.2 MB

Settings -> Appearance: "Use system title bar and borders" was turned
off. Close, minimize, maximize buttons became oval (more of stretched
down) instead of circle. Turned back it on, buttons went back to normal
shape (circle). It's a repeatable action.

** Affects: chromium-browser (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1745888] Re: Two instances of a program launch whenever you touch a favorites icon

2018-10-26 Thread PJSingh5000
Marco,

I tried the extension level patch at https://github.com/micheleg/dash-
to-dock/issues/128#issuecomment-432913072.

Here are my findings...

#1
It worked great for preventing two instances of am application from launching
when touching an icon on the dock.

#2
However, touching the App Grid Icon still does not work. (It seems like the App
Grid is unresponsive, but what is really happening is that the applications
overview appears briefly and suddenly disappears, as if you had tapped on the
App grid Icon twice).

Does the fix at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
shell/merge_requests/272 resolve item #2 above?

[Bug 1799851] Re: Software Boutique window suddenly shows Welcome window and looses all the apps I queued to install

2018-10-26 Thread Robert Pearson
Dear Matthias Klumpp,
The Software Boutique is in Menu->Administration->Software Boutique. In Ubuntu
MATE 18.10 it crashes!

Matin Wimpress.
I do not appreciate having the status of my bug report changed to "Invalid". I
may not be a Linux guru, but I have been developing programs for over 35 years
and a Mentor for 20 years. I can tell when a program crashes! "Fixing" a bug by
declaring all reports of it "Invalid" is not programming - it is bad
management! Try getting some ubuntu!

[Bug 1798984] Re: Yaru theme installed but not enabled by default nor available after upgrade to Cosmic

2018-10-26 Thread Yassine via ubuntu-bugs
Turns out GNOME Tweaks caused this. I restored default settings in GNOME
Tweaks, then I logged out, and in a tty, I reinstalled ubuntu-session
and every part of the yaru theme:

sudo apt purge ubuntu-session yaru-theme-gnome-shell yaru-theme-gtk
yaru-theme-icon yaru-theme-sound
sudo apt install ubuntu-session yaru-theme-gnome-shell yaru-theme-gtk
yaru-theme-icon yaru-theme-sound

then after logging in, all the themes were applied correctly.

2018-10-26 Thread João Constantino
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1504834 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1504834

It worked for me. Change "Cpu = 0" to "Cpu = 1" in '~/.pcsx/pcsx.cfg'.

Re: [Bug 1798739] Re: [amdgpu] All video games freeze 5-10mins into play

2018-10-26 Thread Adrian Barbuio
So I became somewhat frustrated by this issue and used new installation
media to completely reinstall ubuntu 18.04, removing the old partition and
starting again from scratch. I installed steam as soon as the
re-installation process had been completed, and downloaded/played Kerbal
Space Program. I had exactly the same problem as before, the screen cutting
out minutes into the game.

[Bug 1800251] Re: Gimp 2.10.6 Snap not running in Ubuntu 16.04.5

2018-10-26 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
The way you installed gimp the first time (using the software center)
likely attempted to install the snap version, but may not have been
complete when you tried running it. Whatever the reason, since snaps are
distribution-agnostic and are not part of Ubuntu, this bug is invalid.
To report an issue with this particular snap, go to
https://github.com/snapcrafters/gimp/issues.

[Bug 1800254] [NEW] packet socket panic in Trusty 3.13.0-157 and later

2018-10-26 Thread Jay Vosburgh
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification:

Due to changes added as part of c108ac876c02 ("packet: hold bind lock when
rebinding to fanout hook"), it is possible for fanout_add to add a
packet_type handler via dev_add_pack and then kfree the memory backing the
packet_type. This corrupts the ptype_all list, causing the system to
panic when network packet processing next traverses ptype_all. The
erroneous path is taken when a PACKET_FANOUT setsockopt is performed on a
packet socket that is bound to an interface that is administratively down.

This is not due to any flaw of c108ac876c02, but rather than the packet
socket code base differs subtly in 3.13 as compared to 4.4.

This affects only the Trusty 3.13 kernel series, starting with
3.13.0-157.

Fix:

The remedy for this is to backport additional changes in the management of
the dev_add_pack calls from 4.4. This moves the dev_add_pack and
dev_remove_pack calls from fanout_add and _release into __fanout_link and
_unlink.

Testcase:

The issue can be reproduced reliably by (a) creating an AF_PACKET socket,
binding it to an interface that is administratively down, and then (c)
attempting to set the PACKET_FANOUT sockopt. The setsockopt call will
fail, but will corrupt ptype_all in the kernel. Subsequent network traffic
will induce a panic when evaulating the corrupted ptype_all entry. A
test program is attached.

Reproducer for ptype_all corruption. Pass ifindex of an
administratively down interface on the command line.

[Bug 1800251] [NEW] Gimp 2.10.6 Snap not running in Ubuntu 16.04.5

2018-10-26 Thread Leonardo Vallone
Public bug reported:

I have installed Gimp 2.10.6 from the Ubuntu Software application after
a fresh Ubuntu 16.04.5 install and it was not running. Please see
attachment.

As a workaround I have installed Snapcraft and now Gimp is working (?).

I think that this is a weird behavior but I'm quite new tu Ubuntu so I
apologize if I'm wrong.

Any additional info that you may need please let me know, kind regards.

No Problem in 4.15.0-32 and before.

Problem since 4.15.0-33-generic with raw socket => EtherCAT/SOEM (Simple
Open Ethercat Master).

I can confirm it's fixed in 4.15.0-38-generic (SOEM ok).

[Bug 1800250] [NEW] Latest kernel boots to (initramfs) console on Dell Inspirion 15 7577

2018-10-26 Thread Hassan Williamson
Public bug reported:

After getting the latest kernel update, the system keeps booting into a
console that says (initramfs), and no amount of any commands helps gets
past this.

Previous version kernel before it boots fine.

I'm willing to help figure out what's happened if someone is willing to
help guide me through it, I'm no stranger to compiling code or getting
debug information.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1797714] Re: [Dell Studio 1557] No sound after upgrade to Kubuntu 18.10 beta

2018-10-26 Thread Tom Fields
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 210472 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210472

I can confirm, working sound on a Thinkpad T530 using snd-hda-intel
kernel driver stopped working after upgrade from Kubuntu 18.04 to
Kubuntu 18.10.

=> sudo apt purge timidity-daemon resolved the issue for me permanently.

Doing a sudo alsa force-reload also worked, but only until the next
reboot.

[Bug 1781418] Re: User not being initialized correctly on login

2018-10-26 Thread TJ
After the package upgrade to libpam-kwallet 4:5.12.7 from bionic-
proposed the issue has gone away. That seems to be due to commit
8da1a470 included in this version:

commit 8da1a47035fc92bc1496059583772bc4bd6e8ba6
Author: Maximiliano Curia
Date: Fri May 4 22:06:06 2018 +0200

Avoid giving an stderr to kwallet

Summary:
The fixes for CVE-2018-10380 introduced a regression for most users not
using kde, and some for kde sessions. In particular the reorder of the
close calls and creating a new socket caused that the socket is always
assigned the file descriptor 2, aka stderr.

[Bug 545778] Re: xul-ext-lightning is only available in English

2018-10-26 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
So, in other words, does it mean for non-english Ubuntu users that
Lightning from canonical's repo will be broken forever ?

The workaround in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/545778/comments/45
relies on official package and so far so good works nicely and also
plays nice with provider for google agenda.

But.

What will happen on next official TB+Lightning release ?

Since Lighting is no longer seen as a separate extension and therefore
no longer available on ATN, I can't see a way for « auto-updating »
there.

[Bug 1800238] [NEW] TechnoTrend TT-TVStick CT2-4400 (v2) stopped working with kernel 4.18

2018-10-26 Thread Mitsch
Public bug reported:

Dear developer(s),

I used a vdr-installation on Debian testing, before. Switched over to Ubuntu
since the release of cosmic because of problems with GPU/steam under Debian.
Now, I have problems to configure vdr because my TV stick doesn't seem to work
with kernel 4.18.
This is what I did: Installed Ubuntu, upgraded via aptitude to the latest
packages, got the firmware "dvb-demod-si2168-b40-01.fw" and
"dvb-tuner-si2158-a20-01.fw" (as it was recommended by *I guess it was*
openelec.org and the modinfo output of si2168 and si2157), tried w_scan and
failed (w_scan *can* find some signals but failes in getting the channels).
That looks like this, f.e.:

[…}
Scanning DVB-T2...
474000: (time: 01:38.796)
482000: (time: 01:43.155)
49: (time: 01:45.163) signal ok:QAM_AUTO f = 49 kHz
I999B8C999D999T999G999Y999P0 (0:0:0)
Info: no data from PAT after 2 seconds
deleting (QAM_AUTO f = 49 kHz I999B8C999D999T999G999Y999P0 (0:0:0))
[…]

Now, I tried an older kernel - 4.15, because it's still in the cosmics'
repository and tried w_scan again: Success, although the TV-Stick
doesn't find all the channels I found with Debian Testing.

So, maybe there's a regression in the latest kernel regarding the TV-
Stick-driver or there is another firmware which will work better with
4.18…?

Would be glad if someone could help to work that out…

Greets!

[Bug 1781418] Re: User not being initialized correctly on login

2018-10-26 Thread TJ
I added an additional log report to the function drop_privileges() since
that contains a call to setgroup(0, NULL) which, if called as the user,
would have the effect of removing all the supplementary groups.

diff --git a/pam_kwallet.c b/pam_kwallet.c
index 07b357d..147f129 100644
--- a/pam_kwallet.c
+++ b/pam_kwallet.c
@@ -361,6 +361,7 @@ static int drop_privileges(struct passwd *userInfo)

+ syslog(LOG_ERR, "%s uid=%d gid=%d drop_privileges(uid=%d, gid=%d)
calling setgroups(0, NULL)", logPrefix, getuid(), getgid(), userInfo->pw_uid,
userInfo->pw_gid);
 setgroups(0, NULL);

//Change to the user in case we are not it yet

Built the libraries and installed them and found that the problem wasn't
occurring and the new syslog message was showing the correct current UID of 0
when setgroup() was called.

Then I managed to reproduce it and found this syslog message is NOT
appearing, meaning drop_privileges() isn't being called. I then searched
/var/log/auth.log and discovered that when this issue is present
pam_kwallet is failing to access the user's pam_kwallet sockets:

lightdm: pam_kwallet(lightdm:session): pam_kwallet: pam_sm_open_session
lightdm: pam_kwallet(lightdm:session): pam_kwallet: final socket path:
/run/user/1000/kwallet.socket
lightdm: pam_kwallet(lightdm:session): pam_kwallet-kwalletd: Couldn't listen in

lightdm: pam_kwallet(lightdm:session): pam_kwallet: Impossible to write
walletKey to walletPipe
lightdm: pam_kwallet5(lightdm:session): pam_kwallet5: pam_sm_open_session
lightdm: pam_kwallet5(lightdm:session): pam_kwallet5: final socket path:
/run/user/1000/kwallet5.socket
lightdm: pam_kwallet5(lightdm:session): pam_kwallet5-kwalletd: Couldn't listen
in socket
lightdm: pam_kwallet5(lightdm:session): pam_kwallet5: Impossible to write
walletKey to walletPipe

But then, after several "systemctl restart lightdm" where these failures didn't
occur and the groups still weren't being set I stopped lightdm and switched to
a console log-in.

That suffered the same problem; I used "systemctl status" and saw that
despite stopping the GUI session there was still a user@1000.service
with several of the GUI user services still running, one of which was
named "(sd-pam)" - which I supposed was systemd related.

I did "systemctl stop user@1000.service" and then killed the current
tmux/login session with "tmux kill-session -t 3" (3 being the remaining
tmux session).

Upon log-in to the console the supplementary groups are set.

Returning to "sd-pam" I found the following helpful explanation:

https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/213334/why-add-parentheses-
around-a-process-name#278876

  * (sd-pam) is the special case

If we spawn a unit with a non-empty 'PAMName=', we fork off a child-process
inside the unit,
known as '(sd-pam)', which watches the session. It waits for the
main-process to exit and then
finishes it via pam_close_session(3).

The service /lib/systemd/system/user@.service template sets PAMName
=systemd-user and launches "systemd --user" in the user slice.

In my duplicate report Bug #1784964 I theorised originally that a recent
systemd update was responsible. Based on my debugging so far with
pam_kwallet the two may be interacting somehow.

[Bug 1800231] Re: attached bug report

2018-10-26 Thread Cristian Aravena Romero
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.19 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1800205] Re: Distro upgrade failed with Could not calculate the upgrade

2018-10-26 Thread Ha Ha
It would help to actually provide an error message saying which
package/ppa gives the problem, not that it just failed.

2018-10-26 Thread Andreas Hasenack
It's not entirely clear how you got yourself into that situation, so we
can leave this bug marked as "incomplete" so that it will auto expire if
there is no new information in a few weeks.
