[Bug 1810728] [NEW] cups error - internal server error when adding a printer

2019-01-06 Thread asimsalam
Public bug reported:

-
This is happening on a fresh Linux Mint Tessa whose upstream is bionic
 cat /etc/upstream-release/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=18.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=bionic

What

The upstream package is provided by the upstream bionic
sudo apt policy cups

 2.2.7-1ubuntu2 500

Problem Synopsis

I have problem(s) printing with adding or printing to both my printers, one
Dell and the other a Canon.

The Dell E525 was added automatically but when printing to it the queue reports
there was a problem with printing and the documents stays 'pending' in the
queue.
If I try to add the Canon MG6320 using the auto-detected entry for it, the
addition fails and produces the error: cups error - internal server error.
If I add it using the find function with the IP address, adding it succeeds but
printing to it has the same problem as the Dell.

This seems to be a regression/bug in cups that should be addressed.

Please feel free to ask, if you need me to collect more info.

Yes it appears the crash is:

Dec 25 15:18:52 x1c5 gnome-session-binary[3657]: WARNING: App

which looks likely to be caused by:

Dec 25 15:18:52 x1c5 gnome-shell[3813]: JS ERROR: Error: No valid stylesheet
found for 'Yaru/gnome-shell.css'

loadTheme@resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/main.js:358:15

Dec 25 15:18:52 x1c5 gnome-shell[3813]: Execution of main.js threw exception:

So yes it does sound like a theming problem. My only suggestion right
now is to find a way to reset/reinstall any theme-related changes you
have made. That might fix it but it won't tell us exactly what kind of
change caused the problem :(

[Bug 1773515] Re: apparmor fails after removal of snapd

I have a hunch that this happens because /etc/* is marked as a

purged. I think we could special case that file and remove it on regular
package remove using postrm script.

some specific profile that you were expecting to see loaded that did not

2019-01-06 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
I've read through the changes and think they are fine to be added to
hour qemu 3.1 currently being prepared for Ubuntu 19.04

If you later on have the libvirt changes to fully evaluate the newly
added result on wakeup and they are backportable in a non broken way to
our libvirt in the same release as well we can add that as well.

So let me know once you have upstreamed the libvirt changes, I'll add an
incomplete task for that and add the qemu portion to my current items.

[Bug 1810688] Re: Snap-installed .desktop items cannot be overridden

2019-01-06 Thread Zygmunt Krynicki
This is by design, there are no user configurable elements there.

If the Skype desktop file is malfunctioning the people packaging the
application need to take measures to fix it. I understand that there is
desire to fix an issue with a particular camera but you need to take it
up with the Microsoft packaging team responsible for Skype.

[Bug 1810705] [NEW] gnome-control-center disappeared when dock move to bottom

2019-01-06 Thread hendra
Public bug reported:

Package : gnome-control-center
Package version : 1:3.28.2-0ubuntu0.18.04.2
Ubuntu release 18.04
Hardware : Processor sandybridge i3 2.2Ghz Memory 3GB Disk capacity 128GB

I will move the dock position down. I open the gnome-control-center and
select Dock and move the position down. It turns out that the settings
window display disappears as minimized. I screenshot but it
automatically captured on different workspace.

I have reinstalled the package but it remains the same (window setting
disappears)

I also tried it from the live session mode and the same thing happened.
But if I move the dock position to the right, the settings window still
looks like it usually does.

I've screen captured all of these experiments.

Can you please try again, leaving the machine idle for as many hours as
possible?

Also, did you confirm the power usage is still too high before sending

[Bug 1756380] Re: vaapi VP9 hardware decoding not working anymore in bionic

2019-01-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That's right. I would recommend avoiding i965-va-driver-shaders and use
only i965-va-driver. The latter should be more efficient and supported
by Intel. But you do need to ensure your hardware is new enough for VP9
decoding. Only Intel 7th generation (Kaby Lake) and later chips support
VP9.

That said, if you have older hardware (Sky Lake or older) then it sounds
like i965-va-driver-shader might be the next best option. If you would
like to discuss problems in i965-va-driver-shader then please open a new
bug for it by running:

2019-01-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It appears that in the recent past this crash became so prolific that it
might have been confused for other similar crashes in day to day bug
maintenance. For example, the link

https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/8ef857b2fe07d60742cd02d7d8f988f78ecd0f95

is actually a different crash with a different log message, and is not
this bug at all. That has now moved to bug 1736664. Although the problem
isn't just human error, but also I suspect there might be some automatic
misclassification going on within errors.ubuntu.com too.

If you are experiencing bug 1736664 then please comment there. Otherwise
please log new bug reports for each new crash you see so we can try to
classify them better in future.

[Bug 1025388] Re: Internal mic stops working when plugging in headphones

2019-01-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I think you'd need someone to figure out what/where is detecting the
combo jack is in use and whether it thinks an external mic is plugged in
or just blindly assumes one is plugged in.

I don't know what component is responsible for that detection so adding
a kernel task in case that's relevant...

[Bug 1747646] Re: Authentication error with google drive

2019-01-06 Thread Michael Terry
I moved the above bug to GVFS:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/issues/360

In that bug, I've attached a Python script that reproduces the problem.
So this is not unique to duplicity or deja-dup.

However, we might reasonably work around it in duplicity by remounting
or similar when such an error occurs. Maybe in _retry_cleanup as Andrew
suggests.

[Bug 1771185] Re: Secondary monitor not connecting in 18.04 LTS

2019-01-06 Thread olivernz
So, seems I have figured out the issue (at least on my Lenovo T460s) and
I think it lies with the Intel chip internal GPU.

If you use display port and HDMI-->Display Port adapter it won't work.
The Intel chip doesn't seem to support two DP connections at a time. But
you can connect Dp & HDMI-->DVI at the same time (or VGA for that
matter) & Internal display. So max is 3 displays but they need to be
different techs.

I can't confirm this for other laptops without external graphics cards
since i don't have any more.

[Bug 1810695] [NEW] g++: M_PI is visible in conforming mode

2019-01-06 Thread Keith Thompson
Public bug reported:

The macro M_PI, which expands to a constant approximating the value
of pi, is defined by POSIX, but not by ISO C or ISO C++. It is
not a reserved identifier, so it should be available for use as a
user-defined identifier.

The problem: Including causes M_PI to be defined, even when
the C++ compiler is invoked in what should be a conforming mode.

EXPECTED: Program compiles without error and prints "3".
OBSERVED: Program is rejected at compile time.

(The program is rejected when g++ or clang++ is invoked without
options. That's not a bug.)

Using rather than doesn't change the symptom.

A similar program in C does not exhibit the problem.

I *think* the problem is in the "math.h" header, which should arrange
for M_PI and similar macros not to be defined in conforming mode.
It's also possible that a fix might involve updates to g++ and/or
clang++. I haven't fully investigated the twisty maze of macro
definitions and nested #includes in math.h.

(I acknowledge that writing your own definition of M_PI is not a
good idea, and that the definition in this program is particularly
poor style.)

Output illustrating the problem follows:

[Bug 1766555] Re: openscad package missing from 18.04

2019-01-06 Thread Ben Horner
I upgraded to Ubuntu 18.04, and found that I couldn't use openscad anymore.
I ended up here, this sucks.

I tried this:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:openscad/releases
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install openscad

But get this error:
$ openscad
openscad: error while loading shared libraries: libqt5scintilla2.so.12: cannot

I tried this, which also didn't work:
$ sudo apt-get install libqt5scintilla2

killall firefox does not work at all (Ubuntu).
pkill -x firefox-bingives a crash dialog when starting firefox next time.

(sorry, by which I meant to say more specifically: 'killall firefox' has
the same issue, it prompts a session crash dialog for me on next
startup. It's just not something I use often since I usually use the
close button which works, but on shutdown the same mechanism is used -
of course with a timeout as you correctly state, but that doesn't help
when it doesn't even work correctly with no timeout)

Bug 336193 - P1: Use SignalPipeWatcher to detect signals SIGTERM/SIGINT/SIGHUP
and quit application gracefully.

https://reviewboard.mozilla.org/r/228682/#review235302

> I based this off nsProfileLock's CATCH_SIGNAL() which does not
register for signal handlers that have already been set to SIG_IGN. I
guess the logic is that if some other component has already chosen to
ignore the signal then there is probably a good reason for that and we
shouldn't interfere. It would also be inconsistent if we treated it like
normal, started shutdown and then restored SIG_IGN which would not
follow through with killing the process for subsequent termination
attempts. It is always possible to change the signal handler to
something else before calling RegisterCallback() to get around this if
need be.

SignalPipeWatcher is more general than just handling termination signals
(although the SignalPipeWatcher interface is not documented and so it is
not clear what it is suitable for, and the whole situation with others
also calling sigaction for the same signals is already delicate), and so
I wouldn't treat the SIG_IGN case special if I were writing this myself.

Changing the signal handler to something else before calling
RegisterCallback, doesn't work so well with UnregisterCallback.

But I checked "The default action for an unhandled real-time signal is
to terminate the receiving process." and so the existing client,
nsMemoryInfoDumper should not trigger this case. That makes this
harmless for now at least, and so feel free to drop this issue if you
prefer. At least we have a record of the reason for the check, so that
someone can re-evaluate later if required.

Does this bug also include the session not being properly counted as
regularly closed when I shut down the computer normally with firefox
open? (And firefox offering me a misguided tab restore after a supposed
"crash" on next run) Because that's what I'm seeing here as a normal
Linux desktop user. Or should I file another bug for that?

r+ with improved logging.

It seems odd that this is the only place in our test automation
requiring this change. Other test harnesses have similar measures in
place to ensure the browser is killed. Do none of them use sigterm?

It is important for debugging intermittent failures that logging accurately
identifies when a process cannot be killed.
I suggest you add another wait_procs call after the second sigterm and log its
results before exiting killPid.

Bug 336193 - P2: Use a second SIGTERM in killPid() to ensure parent process is

killPid() needs to do more than send a single SIGTERM to the parent
process now that it only triggers graceful shutdown, sending a second
SIGTERM terminates it forcefully like before.
