[Bug 1822738] Re: memleak in 2.38+ ?

2019-04-05 Thread Maciej Borzecki
I've looked as some /proc/meminfo dumps I was provided with.

Dump were made at these time points:
1. after boot
2. successful core refresh from 2.38 to 2.37.4
3. successful core refresh from 2.37.4 to 2.38
4. failed refresh of other snap, failed when mounting the snap with: fork/exec
/usr/bin/unsquashfs: cannot allocate memory

This is a list of values that varied between dumps (with the exception of
LowTotal and CmaTotal):
 (1) (2) (3) (4)

CmaFree:2128 kB 208 kB 15752 kB 33700 kB

Interesting observations:
- MemAvailable stays high, consistent with top output recordings I was provided
with previously
- CmaFree drops, that's the memory available to the contiguous memory
allocation, IIRC that's for DMA transfers and such
- Slab unreclaimable (SUnreclaim) rises

Even though MemAvailable is high, launching new processes fails. CMA
free falling is intersting, I would expect weird things to happen when
it drops too low.

I think it would be worth collecting the output of:
- sudo cat /proc/slabinfo
- sudo slabtop -o

In the kernel source code, in tools/vm, there is a tool `slabinfo` which can
process the data from /proc/slabinfo in a useful manner. If possible, I think
it would be useful to rebuild the tool for given architecture and collect the
output of:
- slabinfo
- slabinfo -T

Another angle that may be interesting to explore, just for the sake of making
sure we check for the obvious things, is to collect this:
- cat /proc/sys/kernel/pid_max
- ps -efT | wc -l
- dmesg

[Bug 1821403] Re: chromium browser crash on fresh offline system install

2019-04-05 Thread Olivier Tilloy
chromium-browser requires a newer version of libnss3 than what was
initially installed. This is not a bug in chromium or libnss itself. A
half-updated system is in an inconstistent state, and will result in
undefined behaviours like this crash.

If you had run "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" before "sudo apt-get install
-y chromium-browser", this would have avoided the problem.

they're both caused by the same change in the same update.

2019-04-05 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Please can you elaborate on the exact steps you take to try and go
fullscreen? Which libreoffice application do you run, how do you request
fullscreen?

Can you also run the following command in a terminal and share the
output here?

apt policy libreoffice-core

Thanks!

[Bug 1814369] Re: update toolchain packages for bionic

2019-04-05 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Matthias, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gcc-7-cross into bionic-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-7-cross/21ubuntu0.2 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1819962] Re: linux-image-extra package accidentally renamed to linux-modules on Ubuntu 14?

2019-04-05 Thread Kleber Sacilotto de Souza
Hello Jeremy,

This renaming of the packages is correct. As documented in bug 1764794,
we have switched our packaging to ship a signed linux image (for UEFI
Secure Boot) with the linux-image package, in contrast to having a
linux-image-signed package as before. In order to implement this, we had
to remove all the modules from the linux-image package. These modules
are now shipped by the linux-modules package, and the old linux-image-
extra has been renamed to linux-modules-extra.

In order to avoid issues when manually installing the kernel image and
modules packages, we recommend installing the meta package (e.g. linux-
generic or linux-image-generic) that will install the right version of
the packages.

I will mark this bug report as 'Invalid' given that it's the expected
behavior now. But please feel free to contact us if you have any further
question.

Thank you.

[Bug 1228906] Re: Lightning not available even though xul-ext-lightning is installed

2019-04-05 Thread Olivier Tilloy
We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all
reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago
and there have been many changes in Ubuntu and Thunderbird since that
time.

As of today in Ubuntu 19.04, installing xul-ext-lightning makes the
calendar work in thunderbird, I suspect what happened at the time this
bug was reported is that thunderbird and the lightning extension got out
of sync.

Thunderbird now ships lightning by default, so we are going to reflect
that in the packaging, meaning such a situation should never happen
again.

Thanks for the report, and sorry for the lack of feedback.

[Bug 1814369] Re: update toolchain packages for bionic

2019-04-05 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Matthias, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gcc-7-cross-ports into bionic-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-7
-cross-ports/17ubuntu0.2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Re: [Bug 1821849] Re: LibreOffice Impress 6.2.2.2 Embedded Video Problem

2019-04-05 Thread Sam Colegrove
That is indeed interesting that Ubuntu 19.04 does not have this
problem.  I have just install the latest build of Kubuntu 19.04 into
another partition of my HP Spectre x360 15-ch004ng which has a 1TB SSD.
I tested the video after all the latest LibreOffice updates and it still
gave the same problems that I reported. Basically, when a video is
started the display goes full screen and is a mess.

[Bug 1822204] Re: open-vm-tools 10.3.10 released

2019-04-05 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Reviewing the changelog after talking to Bernd (thanks) I realized that
there are security critical issues in there.

There is a security fix in it "Among others Fix possible security issue with
the permissions of the intermediate staging directory and path"
[1]

But there are some further really bad things fixed like:
5f3f6ccd Fix NULL pointer dereference and remove three lines of dead code.

Since we are in Freeze but for critical cases can still reconsider it I'd want
to do the following:
1. subscribe the release team and ping them if this could be synced into Disco
still
Actually i'll trigger the sync right away so it shows up as -unapproved as
well.
2. subscribe -security to evaluate the severity of the issue to decide if we
can wait for
older releases for the next regular backport (planned towards the end of
19.10) or if we
need/want to immediately work on those
   - subscribe security team

[Bug 1823317] [NEW] gnome-mastermind locks up and freezes on exit

2019-04-05 Thread Mark S via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Running debian9 with xfce, there is an intermittent problem with the
Gnome mastermind game. It doesn't happen every time (I'd guess about 1
in 5 times) but when I click quit or exit the program just locks up. If
I right-click the title bar and try to use the close option a dialog
appears telling me it's frozen, and with a button to force quit. This
button usually works. But one time my whole system froze when trying to
exit the game, forcing me to do a hard reboot on my PC. Maybe I
shouldn't play games... ;-)

[Bug 1822754] Re: Chrome and other programs not resizing on HiDPI and Non-Hidpi setup

2019-04-05 Thread Nico Jakob
Ok thank you and sorry for the late reply I caught a cold over the last
days:

This is after installing the mutter builds:
➜ dpkg -l | grep 'mutter'
ii gir1.2-mutter-4:amd64 3.32.0-1
amd64GObject introspection data for Mutter
ii libmutter-4-0:amd643.32.0-1
amd64window manager library from the Mutter window manager
ii libmutter-4-0-dbgsym:amd64 3.32.0-1
amd64debug symbols for libmutter-4-0
ii libmutter-4-dev:amd64 3.32.0-1
amd64Development files for the Mutter window manager
ii mutter 3.32.0-1
amd64lightweight GTK+ window manager
ii mutter-common 3.32.0-1
all shared files for the Mutter window manager
ii mutter-dbgsym 3.32.0-1
amd64debug symbols for mutter

Unfortunately Chrome,Firefox and other programs seem to run only
software accelerated and do not adjust their scaling for example if
moved from screen A (HiDPI) to screen B (low-DPI).

One request (not essential for now): In future, could you paste release
notes into the bug so that I can see them without opening a link? :-)

One question (which I'd like to see on future requests please): I assume
you've done testing, but could you state what you've done and that it
worked OK please, for the record?

[Bug 1823301] Re: [nvidia] Shell hangs up at random times when using nvidia-drm.modeset=1

2019-04-05 Thread Didier Roche
-> I'm using 2 monitors (1 internal and 1 external).
-> The nvidia GPU is enabled, monitor is plugged to it through HDMI.
-> The CPU usage of GNOME Shell spikes. There is no writed at the same time
(the led doesn't blink) and no other process seems to run for it. The memory
usages seems stable though. See log attachement which is a snapshot of CPU and
MEM usage every second (you can see at the end a freeze for multiple seconds
corresponding to GNOME Shell CPU spike). CPU spike can go up to 200%.
-> I've run a wayland session for a period of time and didn't notice any
issues. So seems Xorg specific.

Note that this is a regression as I'm running Xorg + drm modeset for a
year or so without experiencing that previously.

[Bug 1752165] Re: TB16 dock freezes X on hotplug when used with external displays

2019-04-05 Thread Georgi Boiko
Started seeing this again on nvidia-396.54 with 4.18.0-16 and 4.18.0-17,
possibly 4.18.0-15 - I don't recall having hot-plugged it on -15.

It's worse now as the system never recovers any of the displays after
hot-plugging and even after removing the dock following a hot-plug the
built-in laptop display remains blank. There is no error spam in kernel
logs either, in fact USB devices seem to recover fine after hot-
plugging, just not the monitors.

Once I have a chance I will try out kernel 5.0 and see if it's any
different. Since this is potentially a new issue/regression, do we need
a new ticket?

[Bug 1766076] Re: USB over thunderbolt turns off every once in a while

2019-04-05 Thread Georgi Boiko
Started seeing something similar on Precision 5520 with TB16 dock after
a recent kernel update. The original 4.18 worked fine, but 4.18.0-16 and
4.18.0-17 are definitely affected, possibly some earlier ones too.

After a while, e.g. 2 hours of work, connecting a new device to the dock
causes the xhci_hcd module to go belly up and one of the following
happens:

1. USB devices connected to the dock stop working, but daisy-chained DP
monitors still work. Reconnecting the dock causes display drivers to die
without recovering and requires a hard reset; although this second part is
probably a new i915/nvidia issue and a regression to LP#1752165.
2. The system completely freezes and requires a hard reset.

I haven't had the chance to play around with this yet, if anyone has any
ideas on what to try to reproduce this and what logs to capture I'll
find some time.
