[Bug 1831930] [NEW] dkms unable to build against 4.14 kernel headers

2019-06-06 Thread Britt Dodd
Public bug reported:

Working on getting GPU acceleration working with Armbian (based on
Ubuntu 18.04) and came across an issue where DKMS cannot build mali-
midgard based on missing headers . Turns out 4.7 has this
header/C file, whereas it was refactored into dma-fence.h/c
(respectively). I've made modifications to the source and it did build,
I was going to make some patches of my changes and post them, just
wasn't sure how to proceed, or if this type of modification was the
correct way to solve the issue -- I've not developed in C in a while,
however this seemed like low-hanging fruit to fix.

I'll attach the patch as soon as I test it.

** Affects: mali-midgard (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1831150] Re: only user.* extended attributes restored upon extraction

2019-06-06 Thread Brian Murray
After discussing this with upstream it became clear that the
documentation is incorrect and it is deliberate that only the "user.*"
extended attributes are applied by default during extraction.

"This decision was done because only user.* attributes are 100% safe to
extract. The security.* (especially capabilities) can have some binary
format specific to the box creating the archive but incompatible with host
extracting the archive."

https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-tar/2019-06/msg1.html

The man for tar should be updated to reflect that to avoid any
confusion.

** Summary changed:

- only user.* extended attributes restored upon extraction
+ its undocumented that only user.* extended attributes restored upon extraction

[Bug 1581864] Re: nginx.service: Failed to read PID from file /run/nginx.pid: Invalid argument

2019-06-06 Thread Thomas Ward
Everyone affected: Please test the PPA builds, they contain fixes for
Xenial, Bionic, Cosmic, Disco, and Eoan.

If this works for all of the releases, I can consider SRU this specific
patch as a distro-specific patch for NGINX here.

[Bug 1830704] Re: [UBUNTU] QEMU toleration patch to ensure cpu detection in a nested KVM

2019-06-06 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Thanks for the ping sil2100, I have forgotten to move the thoughts I had
into a proper SRU template.

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * The kernel detects CPU types and enables/disables some features based
+on that. With future HW this detection is broken as the csske facility
+is no more available.
+
+ * This is fixed upstream and here backported, the csske is ignored when
+expanding the cpu model for the guest and thereby the issue avoided.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Start a kvm guest on s390x
+ * While doing so qemu/kvm will try to detect the host model
+ * Check what CPU it detects the model
+ * Note: this will work (regression check) on all s390x HW, but to prove
+the fix and trigger the issue one would need experimental (not GA yet)
+HW or a similator. Hence we are relying on the bug reporter for
+verification.
+ * For the functionality of this check the initial commit adding the
+core feature [1] which shows how the filtering works.
+
+ [1]: https://github.com/qemu/qemu/commit/30e82de70
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * If there would be a detection that depends on csske being available or
+not that would be affected. But there is none that this is important
+for. All existing machines still have csske, for those the issue never
+existed and nothing should change. The behavior on new machines will
+"change", but not regress. And in addition those new HW was never sold
+yet, so even if that would be considered a regression it wouldn't
+happen in the field.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * n/a
+
+ ---
+
A nested KVM hypervisor has problems to detect the cpu type as z10..z14
with no csske facility available. Instead it will fall back to z9.

[Bug 1831254] Re: [linux-azure] XDP generic fixes

2019-06-06 Thread Joshua R. Poulson via ubuntu-bugs
For testing, the git repo is here https://github.com/Netronome/bpf-
samples.git

To use it:
$ ./xdpdump -i eth1 -S

The -S says to use xdp generic (versus HW offload which we don't
support).

If you don't have the fix, only the slow path packets (TCP SYN, ARP, etc) will
show up.
If you have the fix then all packets show up.

+
+ With the fix on the target the issue is gone.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ The purpose to keep these old types is only to allow people to "migrate off"
the older releases as long as they are still supported. Never the less sooner
or later people are strongly encouraged [1]. Given your great analysis you know
that already, but others might come by this bug.
+ It is important to be considered when deciding on if/what to change.
+
+ No one should ever start a "new" guest of a wily type on Bionic or later.
+ So I'm not too concerned about the delta we introduce to people having done
that. The time this took to be found confirms that even migrations from Xenial
with a Wily type are rare. We can not really differ between wily types coming
from e.g. Xenial (or Trusty-Mitaka) hosts and wily type migrations coming from
other Bionic systems (only a problem after a fix to this bug here and if they
are on a different patch level).
+
+ So as mentioned the one real case for the wily type to still exist is to
+ migrate off of older systems, and that use-case is broken. So I'm
+ considering the thoughts above as a known, but less important than "the
+ main use case" regression.

[Bug 1831748] Re: Update /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default with php-fpm 7.2

2019-06-06 Thread Paride Legovini
Thank you for taking the time to file this bug report and helping to
make Ubuntu better. Your report is valid, however this issue alone does
not justify a Stable Release Update (SRU), the procedure to fix bugs in
existing Ubuntu releases. The SRU procedure and policy is documented
here:

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates

However there is no reason to keep things as they are in future
releases, so I targeted this bug to Ubuntu 19.10. As it is highly
probable for that comment to get out of sync again with the default
version of php (the two packages are updated independently), a comment
should be added asking the user to adapt the php version to match the
currently installed version.

[Bug 1831869] Re: Backport boost_python3 fix for cmake

2019-06-06 Thread Oleg
I've manually applied this patch to FindBoost.cmake but it doesn't solve
issue because cmake doesn't found libraries for python3 component.

The only working component is python-py36:

//Boost python-py36 library (debug)
Boost_PYTHON-PY36_LIBRARY_DEBUG:FILEPATH=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libboost_python-py36.so

//Boost python-py36 library (release)
Boost_PYTHON-PY36_LIBRARY_RELEASE:FILEPATH=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libboost_python-py36.so

So I suppose patch should add next line:

set(_Boost_PYTHON_PY36_HEADERS "${_Boost_PYTHON_HEADERS}")

[Bug 1831928] [NEW] gnome planner crashes when resizing task description or editing task

2019-06-06 Thread Chris Hermansen
Public bug reported:

Using planner in Ubuntu 19.04 (first time in this release IIRC). The
application appears to start fine and allows many different kinds of
interaction (e.g. editing calendar, editing project properties) but
attempting to resize a task description or to use Edit>Task to enter a
task description crashes the application immediately.

Starting from the command line, here is a typical session:

clh@marseille:~$ planner

** (planner:5626): CRITICAL **: 10:43:02.915: mrp_time2_add_seconds: assertion

clh@marseille:~$

When I first started trying this earlier today, I also received a
message about missing libcanberra-gtk-module, so I installed that, which
required the installation of libcanberra-gtk0.

Note that libcanberra-gtk3-module and libcanberra-gtk3-0 were already
installed (perhaps by default?).

Finally, as best as I can recall, I had no such problems in 18.10 or
earlier. I can test on 18.04 if that helps.

Any way, you have not answer my first question yet... is there github

Here are some more question...
is NTP enable on your system? If NTP is enabled, BMC will not allow end-user

is this a problem report from the field or this is just a bug found in

[Bug 1824111] Please test proposed package

2019-06-06 Thread Adam Conrad
Hello Timo, or anyone else affected,

Accepted xserver-xorg-video-nouveau-hwe-18.04 into bionic-proposed. The
package will build now and be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau-
hwe-18.04/1:1.0.16-1~18.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1754052] Re: Dell Latitude 7480 press shift keys triggers random mouseclick when `Tap to click` enabled on touchpad.

2019-06-06 Thread Damian Mironiuk
I've experienced the same issue on Ubuntu 19.04 and 18.04 (but on other
Linux distributions like newest versions of debian or manjaro too - both
Gnome and KDE). Nevertheless it's working fine on Windows 10.

Is there any known solution to this problem? It seems that the touchpad
is a certified one according to
https://certification.ubuntu.com/catalog/component/input/4932/input%3ADLL079F%3A01044E%3A120B/

I can supply my configuration if needed but to give an overview:
Dell Latitude 7480
Kenel: 4.19.28
Dell BIOS: 1.14.1

[Bug 1831899] Re: Kernel Oops 3b in libc-2.23 unable to handle pointer dereference in kernel virtual address space

2019-06-06 Thread Frank Heimes
Hi Robert,
you may upload them to IBM box, I have an account there and may download them
to the Canonical network - that's how I also do it with my IBM project mgr as
well in case of dumps or other larger files.

Thanks for sharing the additional information so far.

But I'm still wondering about the libc version.
The libc version in Bionic is 2.27, but I see 2.23 in the above strace which is
the one from Xenial.

rmadison --arch=s390x libc6 | egrep 'xenial|bionic'
 libc6 | 2.23-0ubuntu3 | xenial | s390x
 libc6 | 2.23-0ubuntu10 | xenial-security | s390x
 libc6 | 2.23-0ubuntu11 | xenial-updates | s390x
 libc6 | 2.27-3ubuntu1 | bionic | s390x

On your system you should see the following output, pointing to 2.27:

$ apt-cache policy libc6
libc6:
  Installed: 2.27-3ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.27-3ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 2.27-3ubuntu1 500
500 http://us.ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports bionic/main s390x Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Please can you double check with 'apt-cache policy libc6'?
It's important to have the correct libc6 and in case it's a 2.23 where it's
coming from:
sudo find / -iname "libc-2.*.so"

[Bug 1808959] Re: [snap] core18-based snap fails to start on Solus/fedora29

2019-06-06 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Just tested again in a fully up-to-date Fedora 29 VM, and the chromium
snap from the candidate channel now starts and works as expected.

I don't have a Solus VM handy, but given the last comment, I'm going to
assume it's fixed there too. Tentatively marking fixed.

[Bug 1831351] Re: Please provide option to continue bug report from different computer

2019-06-06 Thread Tom Reynolds
Thanks for explaning that it is possible to create a bug report on one
system, then manually copy it to another computer where the bug report
can then be submitted using ubuntu-bug.

This is not exactly as convenient as being able to run apport on one
system to gather debugging info, submit this to Launchpad (but not
create the bug, yet), then access the URL printed from another computer
which then allows for SSO authentication and bug submission from this
other computer. So a bit of a different use case, too.

But, yes, it is mostly nice-to-have - (not having reviewed the code) it
just seems like it should be easy to implement since this is what
ubuntu-bug already does when it is unable to create its GUI.

This has been fixed in edge, so if you can switch to tty2 and run "snap
refresh --edge subiquity" and then "systemctl restart
snap.subiquity.service" you should be able to install.

So, I think we want to do that for apt-daily.service which does the
downloading of package lists and updates; but not for the actual upgrade
job - which might fetch any remaining packages.

[Bug 1823037] Re: amd_iommu possible data corruption

2019-06-06 Thread Jeff Lane
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
  iommu/amd: Set exclusion range correctly
-
+
  BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1823037
-
+
The exlcusion range limit register needs to contain the
base-address of the last page that is part of the range, as
bits 0-11 of this register are treated as 0xfff by the
  hardware for comparisons.
-
+
So correctly set the exclusion range in the hardware to the
last page which is _in_ the range.

- iommu/amd: Reserve exclusion range in iova-domain
-
  BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1823037
-
+
If a device has an exclusion range specified in the IVRS
table, this region needs to be reserved in the iova-domain
of that device. This hasn't happened until now and can cause
data corruption on data transfered with these devices.
-
+
Treat exclusion ranges as reserved regions in the iommu-core

[Bug 1820130] Re: [SRU] modem-manager-gui fails to start after modemmanager is upgraded to 1.10.0-1

2019-06-06 Thread Graham Inggs
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
After modemmanager is upgraded to 1.10.0-1, modem-manager-gui crashes at
startup for users with modems with 3gpp location capability.

  [Test Case]
Attempt to start modem-manager-gui with a modem with 3gpp location capability
plugged in, modem-manager-gui should crash with:
  free(): invalid pointer
  Aborted (core dumped)

  [Regression Potential]
Minimal; modem-manager-gui is a leaf package.
+ The new code in:
+
https://bitbucket.org/linuxonly/modem-manager-gui/commits/6710bf86869852bb8a9946b628eff5bc1019b5aa/
+ is guarded by:
+ if ((locationtype == MODULE_INT_MODEM_LOCATION_CAPABILITY_GSM_LAC_CI) &&
(locationdata != NULL))
+ so should not be able to regress for users with modems without location
capability, who would not have experienced this issue.

No idea since when it does that. Must be some Disco Dingo problem.

and then add the files '/var/log/apt/term.log' and

[Bug 1823037] Re: amd_iommu possible data corruption

** Description changed:

[Bug 1831899] Re: Kernel Oops 3b in libc-2.23 unable to handle pointer dereference in kernel virtual address space

2019-06-06 Thread Frank Heimes
Hi does this happen on Ubuntu 18.04 or 16.04.5 ? (because kernel it's '4.15')
lsb_release -a

Since libc 2.23 is mentioned I assume it's 16.04.5.
apt-cache policy libc6 linux-generic

Please can you share a dump?
As well as the 'dbginfo' output?

The z/VM version seems to be 6.4 - do you know if that happens on LPAR,
too?

[Bug 1831908] [NEW] JLabel does not render image in HTML tags

2019-06-06 Thread Douglas Miller
Public bug reported:

The example program creates a JLabel with text set to "". On previous versions of the
openjdk-8-jre, this would work and the PNG was displayed in the JLabel.
On the current version, 8u212-b03-0ubuntu1.18.04.1, all that is rendered
is a tiny label with no apparent image inside. I have run the same class
file on a RHEL 7 system with JRE 1.8.0_201, and on the original 18.04
JRE 1.8.0_162 and it works as expected. I believe this also worked
correctly on 8u191-b12-2ubuntu0.18.04.1.

[Bug 1831908] Re: JLabel does not render image in HTML tags

2019-06-06 Thread Douglas Miller
The results screenshot test-java1.8.0_212.png shows how it fails to
render the image. test-java1.8.0_162.png shows success on the original
18.04 version of the JRE. Note, in all cases if I specify an image file
that does not exist, all version properly render a JLabel of appropriate
size. So, it would seems that the bug exists after the image file is
successfully loaded.

[Bug 1817321] Re: installer does not support iSCSI iBFT

2019-06-06 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
verification done for disco/partman-iscsi.

Use of partman-iscsi/iscsi_auto correctly writes /etc/iscsi/iscsi.initramfs
with either ISCSI_AUTO=true or iSCSI LUN details with the right MAC address.

[Bug 1830055] Re: openrazer 2.5.0+dfsg-1 ADT test failure with linux 5.2.0-0.1

2019-06-06 Thread Colin Ian King
So, on 5.0 kernels the build does not fail because modpost is more
relaxed and will throw warnings on undefined symbols, whereas with 5.2
modpost throws an error.

Interesting fact is that modprobing the razercore on a 5.0 s390 kernel will
fail with:
[ 2553.134689] razercore: Unknown symbol hid_unregister_driver (err -2)
[ 2553.134703] razercore: Unknown symbol hid_hw_start (err -2)
[ 2553.134725] razercore: Unknown symbol __hid_register_driver (err -2)
[ 2553.134748] razercore: Unknown symbol hid_hw_stop (err -2)
[ 2553.134782] razercore: Unknown symbol usb_control_msg (err -2)
[ 2553.134804] razercore: Unknown symbol usb_disable_autosuspend (err -2)
[ 2553.134820] razercore: Unknown symbol hid_open_report (err -2)

And on 5.2 it just won't build because of modpost being more proactive
at checking this. I think the modpost should be relaxed so at least it
will build on 5.2. It may not load with our kernel, but I guess if
somebody wants it they need to have their own kernel with the hid
support for s390x (which probably does not exist). Alternatively we
could disable the build for s390x. I'd prefer to relax odpost as we
leave room for a user to at least use their own kernel that may support
this driver.

This is failing because HID functionality is not built into the s390x
