[Bug 1834113] Re: QEMU touchpad input erratic after wakeup from sleep

2019-06-24 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
There wasn't an update in that area that I'd know of except maybe in the
kernel (which has too many updates to track all of them).

Sorry I'm really not a UI expert, lets check a few things still:
- The suspend/wakeup was that just the guest or did you supend/wakeup the host?
- you targetted this for qemu, is the bad effect only happening in the guest UI?
- If you go back to the release kernel instead of the last update does it still
happen?
- In general you can always go back to packages in the release pocket, doing so
can you identify an
update to one of the packages that caused this to happen?

2019-06-24 Thread Chris Martin
No. I just tried again, as the kernel uas updated this morning.
For this model the max value is 2, and the min is 0.
I have tried all 3.

Re: [Bug 1828495] Re: [KVM][CLX] CPUID_7_0_EDX_ARCH_CAPABILITIES is not enabled in VM.

2019-06-24 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
@rafael - One more question about Stepping 5/6.
I have formerly read your explanation that stepping 6 would be
required to be able to enable arch_capabilities.
And we planned to add all SRUs with stepping 6 right away and keep the
Delta to consider all versions to be stepping 6.

But then I have seen [1] and in particular [2].
Overall this adds more complexity but also more ability to CPU model
definitions.
But in between the lines in [2] I read that arch_capabilities gets
enabled by default and stepping goes back to 5.

That seems to imply that enabling it on stepping 5 isn't an issue.

If it does work doing the SRU that way it will ease maintenance in the future.
Especially since these versioned types will make maintaining Delta in
that area even more complex.
And it would avoid the upgrade issue on Disco where the CascadeLake
would change.

Therefore I wondered if we could make the backport use stepping 5
which would allow to not carry the delta forever in >=Eoan.
Could you make a PPA build as it is right now, but with stepping 5 and
check if using arch_capabilities still works for you?

Those are not all missing at least. I have seen ssbd and md-clear for
sure in Bionic e.g. for the latter coming with
ubuntu/bionic-4.0:debian/patches/md-clear.patch

In the context of this bug we will take a look at arch_capabilities
and if some of the others are low hanging fruits.
Quite often - but not always - for libvirt it is just a CPU bit
definition, but as we know e.g. arch_cap is more complex.

[Bug 1834129] [NEW] Presence of sshd_config mandatory

2019-06-24 Thread Luke A. Perkins
Public bug reported:

OpenSSH 7.9p1
Ubuntu 18..04.2 (LTS)

If a sshd daemon is started with a "-f my_sshd_config" command-line
specification the sshd process still requires the existence of the
sshd_config. The bug is somewhere in one of the forked processes started
when an external client attempts a connection. Since the sshd_config
file does not exists, an external client connection cannot be started.

Solution: If I "touch /etc/ssh/sshd_config" then the lock-up issue goes
away and I am successfully able to login.

Bug: If the sshd configuration file is specified in the command line
execution of the daeomon, then this should be the only file that should
be required.

** Affects: openssh (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1834128] [NEW] Multiple sshd services cannot be executed

2019-06-24 Thread Luke A. Perkins
Public bug reported:

OpenSSH 7.6p1
Ubuntu 18.04.2 (LTS) (Bionic)

See also Ticket #1831765, #1690485, and #1832110 regarding the path of
the privilege separation directory (aka: /run/sshd).

The current Debian installer sets the RuntimeDirectory=sshd (i.e.
/run/sshd) in sshd.service (i.e. /lib/systemd/system/sshd.service) and
sshd@.service (i.e. /lib/systemd/system/sshd@.service). This is not the
best means of implementing this service. The problem is that the systemd
deletes the RuntimeDirectory resource as soon as the service is stopped.
When this happens, other sshd services will fault since the privileged
separation directory is no longer there. We need to modify the
configuration as follows:

1) Create /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/sshd.conf that defines the /run/sshd directory
with root:root as the owner and the protection of 0755.
2) Change the assignment of the RuntimeDirectory in sshd.service to something
other than sshd (i.e. /run/sshd).
3) Change the assignment of the RuntimeDirectory in sshd@.service to something
other than sshd (i.e. /run/sshd).

Both OpenSSH and Ubuntu have declined to provision a means of adjusting
the Privilege Separation directory. Since both teams do not want to
address this, we need to have a means of implementing multiple instance
sshd invocation using systemd and avoiding using the RuntimeDirectory
assignment of /run/sshd.

Thanks for testing !
Before commit, I will try as well some other approach, since my current fix
feels a bit squishy (depends on a magic number)
Strictly seen, my patch fixes a different problem (bursts). The patch just
makes this bug harder to appear (and harder to reproduce).

[Bug 1834112] Re: the mouse stopped responding to commands

2019-06-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
1. Which mouse is having the problem? You seem to have at least two mice
connected.

2. Please remove these from your kernel command line options:

   drm.debug=0xe plymouth:debug

   and then reboot.

3. Wait for the problem to happen again and then please immediately run:

   dmesg > newdmesg.txt

and send us the file 'newdmesg.txt'.

[Bug 1834119] [NEW] [AEP-BUG] Critical:concurrent invocations of ndctl can cause linux panic

2019-06-24 Thread quanxian
Public bug reported:

Description:

Patch: fix patch in the libnvdimm pending tree.
Proposed fixes here:
https://lists.01.org/pipermail/linux-nvdimm/2019-June/021847.html
and pushed out to libnvdimm-pending:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/djbw/nvdimm.git/log/?h=libnvdimm-pending

Upstream Bug link: https://github.com/pmem/ndctl/issues/96

The problem is fairly easy to reproduce in as little as 10 minutes.
Do the following in parallel, like in separate terminals. Example...
in term #1, #3, #5, type
while [1]; do ndctl create-namespace -m devdax -s 48G done
in term #2, #4, #6, type
while [1]; do ndctl destroy-namespace all -f done

Even simple invocation will eventually lead to a panic, it can take hours
though. Example...
in term #1 run the script
#/bin/bash
while /bin/true
do
ndctl destroy-namespace -f all
date
for R in ndctl list -R | jq -r ".[] | .dev"
do
for i in {1..10}
do
ndctl create-namespace -r $R -s 8g -m devdax
done
done
done
in term #2 type
while /bin/true; do ndctl list done

Run that same terminal #1 script in 2 separate terminals, thereby
creating 2 separate threads that will destroy/create will usually result
in a panic within an hour.

Target Kernel: 5.2
Target Release: 19.10

The above log looks like a kernel issue (if not a hardware issue).

Also, please try a newer kernel like:

  https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.1.14/

or

  https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.2-rc6/

and tell us if either of those improve the situation.

2019-06-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt

DVI cable.

Does that mean you are trying to connect two monitors or only one?
Because the system is recognising one 1920x1080 monitor on a
DisplayPort.

[Bug 1834032] Re: loosing wificontact

2019-06-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
You say:

* Often I receive the message : Problem in ubunt, do you want to send
the messaage?

* Often my laptop (Dell Latitude) looses contact with wifi, only to be
repaired by restarting the computer.

But those are two separate issues. Please choose one issue you would
like this bug to be about.

[Bug 1807264] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 Video Crash on Suspend/Hibernate

2019-06-24 Thread EDEMPCO
You asked the same questions I did, but the answer doesn't help. 16.04
was the last version and it's kernel was 4.10.0.27.30. Going back,
doesn't help. There is something in the 18.04 version that overrides the
kernel. Read my responses above. I've used almost every kernel in
between and currently, I'm using 5.0.10. I may jump to the most recent
at this writing, 5.1.14, just to see what happens.

[Bug 1834114] [NEW] AX88772A USB to Ethernet dongle doesn't work

2019-06-24 Thread AceLan Kao
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
There are 2 asix drivers in the kernel, they are drivers/net/usb/asix and
drivers/net/phy/asix. It leads to the compilation race condition that one
overwrites the other asix.mod in .tmp_version directory. This affects the USB
dongle if the "phy" one wins.

T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#= 7 Spd=480 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=ff Prot=00 MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 1

I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 3 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=ff Prot=00 Driver=asix

[Fix]
The same name asix has been introduced since v4.18-rc1 by this commit
31dd83b96641 net-next: phy: new Asix Electronics PHY driver
the new commit fix this issue by renaming it
a9520543b123 net: phy: rename Asix Electronics PHY driver

[Test]
Verified on my own ASIX USB Ethernet dongle.

[Regression Potential]
Low, it only rename the module name, no code change.
