[Bug 1874939] Re: ceph-osd can't connect after upgrade to focal

2020-05-22 Thread Christian Huebner
i filed this bug specifically for hyperconverged environments. Upgrading
monitor nodes first and then upgrading separate OSD nodes is probably
doable, but in a hyperconverged environment you can not separate.

I tried do-release-upgrade (a couple of times) without rebooting at the end,
but found the monitors and OSDs were upgraded and deadlocked at the end.
I tried shutting down all Ceph services first and then do-release upgrade.
Which started my Ceph services and destroyed my cluster.
I tried manually upgrading Ceph, which is thwarted by the dependencies, it's
all or nothing.

I finally accomplished the upgrade by marking all Ceph packages held,
then digging myself through the dependency jungle to upgrade the
packages in the right sequence. This was an absolute nightmare and took
me more than an hour per node. Obviously is not a production ready way
to do so, but at least Ceph Octopus is running in 20.04 now now.

'
There are two asks here:

Separate the dependencies so that ceph-mon, ceph-mgr and ceph-osd can be
installed separately (with the appropriate dependencies, but in a way
that upgrading ceph-mon does not try to upgrade ceph-osd also. There is
no good reason why upgrade of ceph-mon should go down and back up the
dependency tree and try to upgrade ceph-osd too. In fact, I would not
want monitor packages on my OSD nodes and vice versa in a traditional
cluster.

And fix do-release-upgrades, so a Ceph cluster does not get restarted
when the upgrade procedure ends. I can vouch for the services being
restarted, i tried it several times, once even with the services shut
down before do-release-upgrade was started.

An upgrade procedure that breaks customer data should be fixed.

[Bug 1868523] Re: "ERROR couldn't save system state: Current machine isn't Zsys, nothing to create" on non zsys system shouldn’t be visible

2020-05-22 Thread Didier Roche
Hey Deepak,

I’m a little bit unclear about your issue which is the different from
the original bug report. ZSys was complaining on ZSys system when doing
apt install or so: your logs don’t show that up.

If you are running on a non ZSys system (meaning: you didn’t select ZFS
on root installation), it’s normal that any ZSys service or command
returns those error and you should remove ZSys. If this is not the case,
please file another bug with ubuntu-bug zsys to report relevant
informations to us, thanks!

[Bug 1876974] Re: Support multiple ESPs

2020-05-22 Thread Julian Andres Klode
IMO you should be running dpkg-reconfigure grub-efi-amd64-signed rather
than grub-install or the grub-multi-install wrapper directly.

grub-install cannot know if there are multiple ESPs, as the ESPs are
stored in debconf.

This is not different from BIOS systems, where grub-install also does
not do the right thing.

[Bug 1876974] Re: Support multiple ESPs

2020-05-22 Thread Julian Andres Klode
It's still not clear to me why you ran grub-install in the first place,
though. What made you do that?

If you change configuration, the right tool to run is update-grub, there
is no need to reinstall grub.

If you change the ESPs, you use dpkg-reconfigure, so you would not have
stumbled across that.

I can't really imagine a reason to run grub-install.

The versioning between the various binary packages that the ceph source
code produces are strongly versioned so that you can't end up with an
inappropriate/broken mix of binaries on disk at the same time.

Upgrading the ceph-mon package results in an upgrade of the ceph-osd
package because they both depend on ceph-base with a strong version
dependency of a matching binary version.

This is how we enforce a known good set of bits on disks - and is why the
package maintainer scripts don't do restarts of the daemons on upgrade so
that the restart process can be managed with appropriate upgrade ordering.

If you shutdown services the postinst script starts
'ceph{-mon,osd,mgr}.target' so they would get started back up, but targets
and services won't get restarted - I tested and validated and checked the
installed maintainer scripts.

I think you'd have to disable and mask the targets *and* services to ensure
that the target start did not force daemons to start as well but I did not
observe any restart behaviour during my upgrade testing (other than due to
the reboot of the system).

>
> An upgrade procedure that breaks customer data should be fixed.

Agreed but the first step is reproduction of the issue so that we can
actually identify what the problem is.

I've followed what I think is the same process that you undertook but I've
not seen the same issue when running mixed version MON, MGR and OSD.

So there is something specific in your deployment that we've not captured
in this bug report yet.

Full details of a) /etc/ceph/ceph.conf and b) pool types and configurations
in use would be helpful.

[Bug 1878937] Re: [MIR] mathjax

2020-05-22 Thread Didier Roche
All looks good on the MIR side.
I’m not a big fan that we have the minimized MathJax.js source directly shipped
rather than rebuilding it from the unpacked version that we shipped as well,
but no rule is preventing this for javascript package. Note that this is
manually overriden in:
./debian/source/lintian-overrides:
mathjax source: source-is-missing
mathjax source: source-contains-prebuilt-javascript-object

It ships its vendored version of combiner and compressor.

The code itself doesn’t seem to use particular tricks which should emit
warnings to us.

I would like though that a bug and fix is filed upstream to avoid having this
ogg being executable:
W: libjs-mathjax: executable-not-elf-or-script
usr/share/javascript/mathjax/unpacked/extensions/a11y/invalid_keypress.ogg

ubuntu-foundations is not assigned though, mind poking them? I’m happy
to +1 on the MIR once this is done.

[Bug 1880100] [NEW] On ARM systems, package error stops any system upgrade

2020-05-22 Thread emk2203
Public bug reported:

After system install on an ARM system (Orange Pi Zero), an attempt to
update the system via `apt full-upgrade` results in the following error:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/cnf-update-db", line 26, in

Quick fix for me was to remove the package with `sudo apt purge command-
not-found && sudo apt --purge autoremove`. Reinstall of the package
leads to the same results.

[Bug 1877643] Re: netplan.io 0.98 introduced more strict parsing of bonding mode, causing failures at boot for existing systems

2020-05-22 Thread Lukas Märdian
Hi Brian,

for Bionic SRU verification, I checked the logs of the automatic
integration test-suite (autopkgtests) of netplan.io
(0.99-0ubuntu3~18.04.2) and made sure all tests finished successfully.

Vorlon re-trigger one autopkgtest for bionic/amd64, due to a timing
issue (flaky test); it ran successfully the 2nd time and all
autopkgtests for Bionic are now green. All bionic test logs are attached
to the description of this bug report.

Additionally, I executed the following manual test inside a Bionic
multipass instance, which shows that netplan's 'generate' is not
rejecting the config anymore, but printing a warning instead!

All looking good to me!

=== TEST SETUP ===
ubuntu@b:~$ cat test.yaml

ubuntu@b:~$ sudo /lib/netplan/generate test.yaml

ubuntu@b:~$ echo $?

=== AFTER ===
ubuntu@b:~$ dpkg -l | grep netplan
ii libnetplan0:amd640.99-0ubuntu3~18.04.2
ii netplan.io 0.99-0ubuntu3~18.04.2

ubuntu@b:~$ sudo /lib/netplan/generate test.yaml
WARNING: unknown bond mode 'lacp'. Your config needs to be updated to work with
future series of Ubuntu.
ubuntu@b:~$ echo $?

** Description changed:

  As noted in
  https://github.com/CanonicalLtd/netplan/pull/97#issuecomment-625868233 ,
netplan.io 0.98 has introduced stricter validation rules for netplan
yaml compared to previous versions. This causes previously accepted
netplan yaml to fail to validate and therefore fail to apply, regressing
  users' networks after SRU upgrade.

  === SRU ===
  [Impact]
This release contains one regression bug-fix for the bionic stable release
and we would like to make sure all of our supported customers have access to
these improvements.

- * Do not reject invalid bonding mode config (LP: #1877643)
-- Print a warning instead on bionic
-- Only affects the bionic series
+  * Do not reject invalid bonding mode config (LP: #1877643)
+    - Print a warning instead on bionic
+    - Only affects the bionic series

See the changelog entry below for a full list of changes and bugs.

  [Test Case]
The following development and SRU process was followed:
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NetplanUpdates

Netplan contains an extensive integration test suite that is ran using
the SRU package for each releases. This test suite's results are available
here:
  http://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/n/netplan.io

A successful run is required before the proposed netplan package
  can be let into -updates.

The netplan team will be in charge of attaching the artifacts and console
output of the appropriate run to the bug. Netplan team members will not
mark ‘verification-done’ until this has happened.

  [Regression Potential]
In order to mitigate the regression potential, the results of the
aforementioned integration tests are attached to this bug.

Special attention is given to tests/generator/test_bonds.py ->
- test_bond_invalid_mode, which was adopted to *not* reject an invalid
- bond config, but print a "WARNING: unknown bond mode '%s'" instead.
+ test_bond_invalid_mode (unit test at compile time), which was adopted to
+ *not* reject an invalid bond config, but print a "WARNING: unknown bond
+ mode '%s'" instead.

  [Discussion]
It may be appropriate from an upstream POV to make the validation of input
more strict over time, but it is never acceptable for an SRU to regress the
interpretation of user config in this manner and cause config to fail to apply.
This PR either needs to be reverted for bionic, or it needs to be modified to
treat unknown modes as a warning instead of a failure.

hmm this bug was introduced here 1 month before the release of 20.4 and
now a month after the release the bug is still there...

that's somehow quite a bit of a downer, at least for me :(

i know the devs always have a lot of work to do, but is there at least a
light at the end of the tunnel ? can we expect a solution to this bug
anytime soon ?

[Bug 1880113] [NEW] Sync python-httplib2 0.17.4-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2020-05-22 Thread Lukas Märdian
Public bug reported:

Please sync python-httplib2 0.17.4-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Add debian/patches/0003-Fix-autopkgtests.patch:
Make test suite work, by skipping approx. 50 tests, which try to access an
non-existent external server. Fix a few of them, using a HTTP mock server.

The test suite activated by 0003-Fix-autopkgtests.patch is deprecated by
upstream. I've integrated upstream's new test suite with 0.17.4 in Debian.

Changelog entries since current groovy version 0.14.0-3ubuntu1:

python-httplib2 (0.17.4-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  [ Lukas Märdian ]
  * Bump version to 0.17.4
  * Use upstream's new test suite in tests/ & test/
- python3/httplib2test.py is deprecated
  * Refresh d/p/0001-Use-system-ca-certificates-not-the-bundled-ones.patch
  * Drop d/p/0002-Fix-debug-in-HTTPSConnectionWithTimeout.connect.patch
- Fixed upstream
  * Add d/p/skip-ca-md-too-weak-ssl-tests.patch
- Skip some tests, which fail because of CA_MD_TOO_WEAK ssl error with
  newer OpenSSL version

  [ Jelmer Vernooij ]
  * Set upstream metadata fields: Bug-Database, Bug-Submit, Repository,
Repository-Browse.
  * Update standards version to 4.5.0, no changes needed.

[Bug 1880109] [NEW] apparmor profile: allow read on /proc/sys/kernel/random/boot_id

2020-05-22 Thread Thomas
Public bug reported:

I get the follow kernel message:

It could be easy to fix it:

--- /tmp/usr.sbin.mysqld2020-05-22 08:21:49.698953104 +
+++ /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld 2020-05-22 08:15:54.180942772 +

And replace the current profile with:
apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld

It would be nice, to include this fix to the current version.

[Bug 1879776] Re: ubuntu 20 error mounting smb drive

2020-05-22 Thread L Sluijter
Indeed, files shown as directories is this bug #1872476. The fix from the PPA
works.
There the same environment as I have (FritzBox) is mentioned. Newer software
levels of FritzOs (expected this summer) will have support for smb2/3

Min protocol = NT1 solved the first problem.
I wonder, why would a CLIENT bother about the level of the SERVER? Just accept
the server as is, perhaps with some warning. Or at least give a message that
the server is "old".

Sebastien, thanks for your support.

[Bug 1876065] Re: After unplug headphones and plug them again no sound can be heard

2020-05-22 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello Roman, or anyone else affected,

Accepted pulseaudio into focal-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.3 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu Focal)
Status: In Progress => Fix Committed

[Bug 1843988] Re: python library installed into site-packages instead of into dist-packages

2020-05-22 Thread Ernst Kloppenburg
yes, it does.

I actually had the problem on a raspberry pi running Raspbian 10. There
I had to add the following to my script so that the library would be
found:

sys.path.append('/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/python3.7/site-packages/')

(after having analyzed the problem I then sent the bug report from my
desktop computer)

[Bug 1875015] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 and Displaylink is extremely slow

2020-05-22 Thread Mike Bartlet
Upgraded from ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04 today and was happy that DisplayLink
finally started to work. Well, that is until I realised how totally
unusable it was! Exactly the same experience as the other posters. I'm
using an Acer Aspire V5 with a DisplayLink D3100 device and dual
monitors.

Then I noticed something very interesting. If I also plugged in a
monitor to the VGA output, everything works perfectly. As soon as I
unplug the VGA monitor, it is unusable again. While not ideal, this is a
reasonable work-around for me until the bug is fixed.

The down-side of this workaround for me is that the VGA output is
plugged into a VGA input of one of my monitors. So although ubuntu
thinks I have 3 monitors, there are only two. This means if I launch an
app and it goes to the VGA output, I can't see it. It takes a bit of
fiddling around to drag it to the DisplayLink output.

Looking forward to this bug being fixed.

[Bug 1880125] [NEW] v3d driver clock problem forces OpenGL to use software rendering

2020-05-22 Thread AlpineCarver
Public bug reported:

release: 32-bit ubuntu 20.04 running on a raspberry pi 4
package: linux-raspi 5.4.0.1008.8

I made the configuration change described in:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-raspi/+bug/1876862
and am running a kernel with v3d on a raspberry pi 4.

Unfortunately, OpenGL is still not using the GPU; it's using the
software renderer, llvmpipe.

Setting LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose and running an OpenGL program shows that
OpenGL can't open any /dev/dri/renderD* device.

Looking in /dev/dri, there are no device files that begin with "render,"
indicating the v3d driver isn't starting up properly.

Adding debugging code to the kernel, I find that:
(1) drivers/gpu/drm/v3d/v3d_drv.c:v3d_platform_drm_probe() fails because it
can't get a clock - devm_clk_get() returns an error.
(2) in drivers/clk/clk.c:of_clk_get_hw(), the call to of_parse_clkspec() for
the v3d driver yields a desired clock source of "firmware-clocks".
(3) drivers/clk/clk.c:of_clk_get_hw_from_clkspec() fails because it can only
find six clock providers (aux@7e215000, cprman@7e101000, clock@7ef0,
clk-108M, clk-usb, clk-osc) none of which match the requested "firmware-clocks".

The solution is to add a clock definition to the kernel source and a
corresponding change to the device tree, but I'm not familiar enough
with either to create that solution myself.

In the raspbian kernel source tree, drivers/clk/bcm/clk-raspberrypi.c
defines BCM2835_CLOCK_V3D, but there is no corresponding definition in
the ubuntu source tree.

[Bug 1880124] [NEW] xfce4-screensaver blocks UI on hyper-v

2020-05-22 Thread Daniel
Public bug reported:

I have a VM running in hyper-v (on Windows 10, a desktop).

My system is a xubuntu, which means with xfce as standard window
manager. It was previously running on xubuntu 18.04, but now, after
upgrading to 20.04, the UI "freezes" every time after a few minutes.

Using a text VT, I found that it's the process xfce4-screensaver which I
have to kill to be able to continue my work. After killing, everyting
works fine.

It seems that under this environment, the screensaver blocks inputs (I
guess for security reasons), but fails to paint anything on the screen
which should now show a screensaver or blank. I don't see any text field
for entering a password or similar, like I do on other installations
which are not in a VM.

I recognized some changes also on these other (non-virtualized) systems,
they started now to ask for a password which they didn't on 18.04. So I
can only guess that something on this mechanism is shaky.

[Bug 1509717] Re: Wily LVM-RAID1 – md: personality for level 1 is not loaded

2020-05-22 Thread Julian Andres Klode
That's certainly incorrect, lvm2 was fixed in focal (and hence groovy).
That only leaves xenial, but updating xenial close to its EOL for
something as unusual as this seems unneccessary. The supported
configuration for raid1 is mdadm after all, not removing mdadm and the
meta packages that depend on it and using lvm's raid support.

[Bug 1874939] Re: ceph-osd can't connect after upgrade to focal

2020-05-22 Thread Jay Ring
"However it should be possible to complete the do-release-upgrade to the
point of requesting a reboot - don't - drop to the CLI and get all
machines to this point and then:

restart the mons across all three machines
restart the mgrs across all three machines
restart the osds across all three machines"

Yes, I believe this would work.

However, that's not normally how I would do an upgrade. Normally, I
upgrade one machine, make sure it works, and then upgrade the next. I
have done it this way since I built the cluster back in Firefly. When I
did this time, and it destroyed every OSD on the node that I upgraded.

This was very unexpected and disappointing, to say the least.

I wanted to warn others and try to prevent it from happening to them. I
accept some of the blame. Part of it is on me, part of it is on Ceph,
part of it is on Ubuntu.

[Bug 1870359] Re: My machine as Wi-Fi Hotspot broken after upgrade to 20.04

2020-05-22 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello Krister, or anyone else affected,

Accepted network-manager into focal-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-
manager/1.22.10-1ubuntu2.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

[Bug 1880141] [NEW] Please remove nmapsi4 and forensics-all on ppc64el, riscv64, s390x

2020-05-22 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
Public bug reported:

nmapsi 0.5~alpha2 now uses Qt WebEngine instead of Qt WebKit:

https://github.com/nmapsi4/nmapsi4/commit/674e565d384c2109
https://salsa.debian.org/pkg-security-team/nmapsi4/-/commit/253c7c57790b4c72

[Bug 1874939] Re: ceph-osd can't connect after upgrade to focal

2020-05-22 Thread Jay Ring
"As a side note - even if there is a bug here (and it sounds like there
might be) I would recommend placing the mon and mgr daemons in LXD
containers ontop of the machines hosting the osd's"

Yes. I would strongly suggest doing this also. That is how Ceph now
recommends it anyway. However, older installs are not usually set up
this way.

And there is no warning that if you aren't set up this way that do-
release-upgrade will destroy the node.

I would have been happy to make the change, I just didn't know it was
necessary.

Also, and not to complain, but if you are setting up this way, there is
no reason for the monitor package to be installed outside of the
container - and it should probably not be.

This would suggest to me that ceph-mon should "conflict" with ceph-osd
since they should never be installed in the same context/container/host.
This would force a user to remove either the monitor or OSDs ,
preventing a reboot from destroying the node.

In a perfect world, ceph-osd would notice that it is connecting to an
old monitor and politely disconnect without destroying all it's OSDs.

For now, however, I suggest some sort of stop-gap measure that prevents
users from nuking their cluster without warning.
