[Bug 1934155] Re: fetchmail can no longer connect to underwood & gives false error msg (TLS issues)

2021-07-04 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Thanks for the report Bill and even more for the awesome and detailed
explanations Matthias!
AFAICS there is nothing in here for Ubuntu to fix "right now". As versions
6.5/7.0 are releases we will pick them up but that isn't what this bug was
about.

Gladly config based solutions were found to handle the problem, but I'll
mark the bug as incomplete to auto-expire if nothing else needs to be
added in your opinion.

[Bug 1934574] Re: package freeradius-mysql 3.0.20+dfsg-3build1 failed to install/upgrade: installed freeradius-mysql package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2021-07-04 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

Hi,
unfortunately the logs you attached do not have much info that help debugging
this.
I can see it failed on install, but not what.

As the error message already asks you, did you see any issues in the extended
log?
  $ journalctl -xe

Generally what it (re)starts is this, so how does that service look like?

[Bug 1875354] Re: No more smb access after migration to UBUNTU 20.04 from UBUNTU 19.10

2021-07-04 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Celina,
thanks for the info but that isn't the same issue that was discussed in this
bug.
Furthermore while enabling SMBv1 is a workaround to the problem you had it is
considered a huge security risk and therefore should be a last resort and only
for e.g. isolated environments.
I tried to find a good link of the issues, but the problem with SMBv1 is that
there are too-many of them that I couldn't find a single page outlining all of
them nicely :-/

[Bug 1854621] Re: ubuntu 20.04 daily boots with no (or warped) background, selecting other background has warped wallpaper

2021-07-04 Thread Chris Guiver
Booted today's impish (canary) daily (live QA-test) on
- dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550)

Identical result to comment #13

booted with wallpaper shown, however glitches on top though. On changing it, I
get
- no background (usually blocks on small parts of screen)
- glitched background (varying amount looks good)
- correct wallpaper (took ~15 changes to achieve a perfect wallpaper though)

it doesn't repeat though; you'll get different results each time a
wallpaper is selected and it's unpredictable.

** Summary changed:

I'm using the Ubuntu default. Attached is my "Settings/About" page.

Incidentally, I just installed Shutter on my OFFLINE machine, which
runs Ubuntu and Windows 7: I get the expected Shutter colored icons
(single violet color) and not the colorless icons (which I sent you)
of my ONLINE Ubuntu machine. Copy of the screenshot also enclosed.

So, my "colorless" problem has something to do with my icon software.
I will try to look into this in the next few days. I think I added
new icons to my online machine a while ago, and they may be causing
the "colorless" problem.

[Bug 1934616] Re: qterminal doesn't use correct .bashrc

2021-07-04 Thread Ryan Hoover
I added mate-terminal as being affected as well, as I just attempted it
there, and have the same issue.

** Description changed:

  Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS

- qterminal 0.14.1-0ubuntu2 (universe, amd64)
+ mate-terminal 1.24.0-2ubuntu1

I'm in the process of cleaning up my $HOME. Part of this process was to
move all of bash's "junk" into XDG BaseDir compliant locations by
specifying in .profile to look at $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/bash/ for the .bashrc
file, etc. bash itself is handling the move just fine (e.g. it outputs
its history to ~/.local/share/bash/history as commanded). I can go into
a TTY and use aliases I specifically put into the new .bashrc (located
  at ~/.config/bash/.bashrc), etc.

The problem is when I try to use said aliases in qterminal, it refuses
to recognize this change and use the proper .bashrc.

I'm sure this is an "upstream" issue, but their GitHub issue tracker
essentially tells Ubuntu users to file issues here instead.

Attached is my ~/.profile for reference.

[Bug 1915117] Re: [Regression] Audio card [8086:9d71] not detected after upgrade from linux 5.4 to 5.8

2021-07-04 Thread Pierre Equoy
Following a discussion with Chris, I checked /usr/share/alsa/ucm2/ and
discovered that /usr/share/alsa/ucm2/hda-dsp/ was missing.

I created it and put the files from https://github.com/alsa-project
/alsa-ucm-conf/tree/master/ucm2/hda-dsp in it.

I then restarted the computer and selected the 5.10.0-1035-oem kernel
provided by Chris.

Now, not only the sound output works as expected from internal speakers,
but the internal microphone works as well! I can also plug headsets
using the Jack output and the sound is output as expected.

I attach pulseaudio logs for reference (without any headset connected).

[Bug 1933022] Re: gnome control-center crashed with sigsegv in g_str_hash() whenever I try to add input sources

2021-07-04 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson

** Changed in: gnome-desktop3 (Ubuntu Hirsute)
   Status: New => In Progress

** Changed in: gnome-desktop3 (Ubuntu Hirsute)
Assignee: (unassigned) => Gunnar Hjalmarsson (gunnarhj)

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ If the dconf key show-all-sources is "true", any attempt to add new
+ input sources via Settings results in a segfault. It means that users
+ can't make use of the so-called "exotic" XKB keyboard layouts.
+
+ The proposed upload includes a cherry picked upstream commit which fixes
+ the issue.
+
+ [Test Plan]
+
+ 1. Enable show-all-sources:
+
+gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.input-sources show-all-sources true
+
+ 2. Select Settings -> Region & Language and click the + button to add
+an input source.
+
+ -> Find that g-c-c crashes.
+
+ 3. Install the gnome-desktop3 binaries from hirsute-proposed.
+
+ 4. Repeat step 2.
+
+ -> Find that you are able to add an input source.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ The change is a targeted fix to address the issue at hand. It was
+ committed upstream on April 22, and no reported regression.
+
+ [Original description]
+
I've been facing the problems for about 9 months now. Back then I
thought that maybe getting a new version would solve the problem, but
turns out it didn't. Whenever I try to add some Input Sources from it
  just crashes.

Reproducing it is very easy: running gnome-control-center, then going to
Input Sources settings and clicking Add(+) would generate the crash. But
the weird thing is that I've been unable to reproduce it in VM. And I
also tried to reinstall most of the packages which, I think if
changed/misconfigured would cause this but it didn't help. I also tried
to use debsums to give some clues but didn't find any.

[Bug 1934601] Re: installer crash to usb

2021-07-04 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

The recommended minimum disk space for a Ubuntu Desktop install is 25GB,
having been so since Ubuntu 17.10
(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SystemRequirements).

Your install ran out of space, as the user/operator did not provide
enough disk space.

I've marked this invalid; as the minimum space required for a desktop
install was not provided. If you believe I'm in error, please leave a
comment stating why and the status can be returned to "New".

[Bug 1934608] Re: setcap does not recognize CAP_PERFMON

2021-07-04 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1934608/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1922129] Re: Nemo crashes/traps with quick image and window/directory(?) updates

2021-07-04 Thread Fantu
without full backtrace with symbols or easy way to reproduce (for take
backtrace) is difficult debug it
from a fast search in upstream fixes probably this patch
(https://github.com/linuxmint/nemo/commit/73aafd8897ac00a7b256249c6d4c41dd2d9a138f)
 and its regression fix
(https://github.com/linuxmint/nemo/commit/463eca27997f1af26b9164c1b937c01dbdb00df6)
can be related, if you want do a fast test applying them. But without
backtrace it's just a vague guess.

[Bug 1834203] Re: Copying small files over CIFS doesn't close its window

2021-07-04 Thread Michael Lueck
So I finally moved to a new machine... loaded with Xubuntu 20.04.2...
upgraded from my reliable machine still running Xubuntu 16.04.

While on Xubuntu 16.04, I never had any issues with Thunar and copying
files either locally or involving SAMBA mounted shares.

Unfortunately Xubuntu 20.04.2 still regularly "hangs" copying files with
Thunar involving the SAMBA mounted shares.

I would rather not install Dolphin as it is KDE based.

This was reported back on: Date: Tue Jun 25 13:03:59 2019

Could we get some traction to resolve this defect and roll out the
needed update?

I am thankful,
Michael

[Bug 1934608] Re: setcap does not recognize CAP_PERFMON

2021-07-04 Thread Nagle-animats
Reproduce by:

echo foo > foo
sudo setcap cap_perfmon+ep foo

Result: "Fatal error: Invalid argument"

sudo setcap cap_net_raw_ep foo

Result: blank (success)

getcap foo
foo = cap_net_raw+ep

So cap_net_raw works, but cap_perfmon is not implemented.

[Bug 1934606] [NEW] set gtk = '3.0' to prevent importing '4.0'

2021-07-04 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

If gtk4 is installed, gjs imports gtk4, and since ibus-avro isn't
compatible with gtk4, it crashes if you try to open the Preferences
window.

The proposed upload fixes the issue by explicitly setting gtk version to
3.

[Test Plan]

 * Install ibus-avro, relogin, and add it to the input sources.

 * Install libgtk-4-1 and gir1.2-gtk-4.0.

 * Try to open Preferences from Settings, and find that it fails.

 * Install ibus-avro from hirsute-proposed and run "ibus restart".

 * Successfully open Preferences from Settings.

[Where problems could occur]

This only specifies the required gtk version. Can't think of any
problem.

[Bug 1896250] Re: SDL support is missing while virglrenderer has problems with GTK

2021-07-04 Thread Olivier Robert
Nice, thanks !

I've got a new laptop in the meantime, where I will likely use Intel's
GVT-g GPU virtualisation feature (my old hardware couldn't), hence no
need for virglrenderer, but of course that's only me. Moreover,
virglrenderer still has the advantage of being hardware-independent.

Additionally, SDL has the advantage of completely grabbing the keyboard,
as I remember having the problem that a Ctrl-Alt-Del wasn't caught using
GTK (but maybe I don't remember correctly, because that sounds odd),
while it clearly works fine with SDL.

[Bug 1931131] Re: Update the 465 and the 460 NVIDIA driver series

2021-07-04 Thread Nathan Bryant
I was able to get my hands on a card to upgrade from a GTX 1070 to an
RTX 3060 Ti LHR (Low Hash Rate). Assuming this driver version to be
necessary for the new LHR cards but I did not test the previous version,
so that might not be correct.

The basic GNOME desktop and Chromium browser seem to work.

[Bug 1934597] [NEW] Overlapping texts in Show Keyboard Layout window (RTL, AltGr)

2021-07-04 Thread Fikrul Arif
Public bug reported:

1. In Region & Language settings, add a keyboard layout that contains RTL
characters and uses AltGr, e.g. "Arabic (QWERTY)" or "Indonesian (Arab Melayu,
ext. phonetic)".
2. Open the keyboard layout window by pressing the eye icon.

Expected: on each key, the corresponding characters are displayed:
- (A) without modifier: bottom left
- (B) with Shift: top left
- (C) with AltGr: bottom right
- (D) with Shift+AltGr: top right

Actual: there are keys which contain overlapping character, (A) and (B)
are rendered on the right side, overlap (C) and (D) respectively.

I've seen the source code somewhere in the past, it seems the text area
for (A) and (B) fill the key width. It's okay when the text of (A) and
(B) are short and LTR. However, if (A) or (B) are RTL, it is right
aligned so it takes (C) or (D) place. So a simple fix probably by
reducing (A) by half of the key width if there's (C) for that key, and
so for (B) and (D).

[Bug 1929259] Re: Focal arm64: pip3 install h5py==3.1.0 fails with /usr/include/hdf5/openmpi/H5public.h:60:13: fatal error: mpi.h: No such file or directory

2021-07-04 Thread Stefano Rivera
Firstly, this is not a pip bug, it's a failure for a package to build
under pip, that's almost certainly the fault of the package or its build
environment.

In particular, it seems to be looking for mpi.h in the wrong place.

Reproduced on amd64 with:

pip3 install h5py==3.1.0 --no-binary ':all:'

Debian builds h5py for mpi with: CC=h5pcc
That seems to do the trick here too.

** Changed in: python-pip (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Invalid

[Bug 1934593] [NEW] smemstat drops newlines on very long command lines

2021-07-04 Thread Uh Boe
Public bug reported:

When the length of the command line approaches 256 characters, then
smemstat fails to transition the output line to the next line. The next
output then continues on the same line. In theory, if all command lines
are very long, then all output could be on one very long line.

** Affects: smemstat (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
