[Bug 1955754] [NEW] No WiFi hardware detected in kernel 5.11

2021-12-25 Thread BlackDalek
Public bug reported:

I have a bad branch kernel installed 5.12.5-051205-generic I need to get
rid of it and change to kernel version 5.11.0-43-generic.
However, I have no WiFi hardware detected when booted into 5.11 kernel from

I can ONLY get my WiFi hardware to detect in kernel 5.12
I only have network access through ethernet cable while booted into kernel 5.11

[Bug 1955753] Re: Using 3 fingers touch screen gestures freezes the system

2021-12-25 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.

Ubuntu 20.10 (groovy) reached end-of-life on July 22, 2021.

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested
in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the
latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still
present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here telling
us which new version it is in.

Note: I've not changed the status to INVALID as some of your details
don't match groovy or 20.10.

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1955753

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1955753] [NEW] Using 3 fingers touch screen gestures freezes the system

2021-12-25 Thread yossi cohen
Public bug reported:

Bug severity: 8/10 major productivity hindrance!
Reproducibility: 100% on every distro running gnome 40 and 41.
Ubuntu Version: 20.10.
Package: gnome-shell 40.5-1ubuntu2 500

Background:
Under Wayland, there are multi touch gestures implemented for the touchscreen
and for the touchpad.
3 fingers up for activities overview and again for applications swiping left
and right will switch desktops, in and out of the activities screen.

Using the touchpad everything is fine and the system works as expected.

as long as there are no programs running, using three fingers on the
screen will go into the overview and move between desktopsas expected.

The Bug:
As soon as you enter overview with applications running and you swipe an app
with more than 1 finger the entire shell will freeze and you cannot move to the
other TTYs using the ctrl+alt+f#. Only the mouse still moves and there is an
app preview stuck (see attached image).
If you wait until the computer locks you can enter the lockscreen and the other
TTYs.

Expected Behaviour:
System not hanging when swiping over an app window preview with more than 1
finger on the activities screen, The app should'nt be draggable with more than
1 finger.
Swiping over the activities screen with 3 fingers should move between desktops
overviews just like 3 fingers on a touchpad does and just like how it does when
not doing so over an app.

Edit: IMO, It might be a gnome bug, however as it is affecting the entire OS
Canonical should patch it with a little hack/gnome addon that prevents dragging
an app preview with more than 1 finger.

After some research I think, the best solution would be to create an
additional zfs file system in the pool and use that partition as the
swap partition.

[Bug 1955748] [NEW] Gnome Tweaks window won't maximize

2021-12-25 Thread Maruan Kaled Charkieh
Public bug reported:

It's just this one specific window, the Gnome Tweaks window, it refuses
to maximize, I've tried double clicking on the title bar, I've tried
enabling the animations, I've tried changing all Gnome Tweaks settings
to their defaults and restarted the laptop, but nothing works, every
time I click the button to maximize it acts as if it did, with the look
of the button changing to imply it's maximized, and the windows changes
its place slightly, it's as if it's trying to maximize, but can't.

Regarding maximizing the window, the button between the one that
minimizes it and the one that closes it, with the icon that's just a
plain square, it works in every application and I'm sure it worked in
Gnome Tweaks when I started using it, however the error I'm having is
that now when I click it instead of maximizing the window as it should,
it does an animation for a brief second, like it's trying to maximize
it, but can't, so it goes back to normal, with one key difference, the
square icon, which is used to maximize, becomes the icon with the duo of
squares, one over the other in an angle, the button used in maximized
windows to minimize them, which means that the system recognizes the
window as maximized, even though it's not.

[Bug 1955742] Re: `ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'pip'` for python3.10 virtual environment on Ubuntu 21.04

2021-12-25 Thread Alain Mosnier
In fact, I've just upgraded to 21.10 (I had forgotten about that
upgrade, for some reason) and in that release, Python 3.10 virtual
environments seem to work just fine. So I guess we pretty much could
forget about this issue.

[Bug 1955747] Re: SDDM tries to restart after reboot/shutdown are initiated.

2021-12-25 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1955747

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

I'll change the status to 'incomplete' as no package, version etc.
details were provided in fields (done automatically when apport tools
are used to file bug report; this detail will be added with the apport-
collect). Please return the status to "New" after running 'apport-
collect'; or if you believe I've made an error, leave a comment as to
why & the status can be returned to 'New' (some version details were
provided in text description; but not fields of the bug report)

It can be seen that the system went for shutdown at 14:20:14, got mostly
shut down at 14:20:15 but then spent 8 seconds while SDDM was trying to
start again.

I am on Kuubntu 21.10, I am using systemd-boot to start up my computer
but this also happens to people with GRUB2 as confirmed here:
https://www.kubuntuforums.net/forum/newbie-support/help-the-new-
guy/659089-slow-shutdown?p=659107#post659107

A workaround was messing with /etc/systemd/system.con and tuning down

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you
are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the
support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are
uncertain if they are bugs. You can also find help with your problem in
the support forum of your local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/
or asking at https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org. For help

[Bug 1953301] Re: Segfault on AArch64 caused by OpenSSL affecting numerous packages

2021-12-25 Thread David Hess
I confirmed https://github.com/openssl/openssl/pull/13256 does indeed
appear to be the source of the problem for me. I added all of the
details to 1951279 here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssl/+bug/1951279/comments/15

and

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssl/+bug/1951279/comments/16

Regarding reproducibility, the bug both trashes the stack (which makes
it difficult to narrow down) and only happens on v8.3 64 bit ARM
processors (which is why some Arm 64 bit folks get false negatives).

[Bug 1955745] [NEW] Sending file to GCP using SSH window from Google Cloud Platform freezes and corrupts both local and remote systems

2021-12-25 Thread FurretUber
Public bug reported:

I started setting a Factorio server on Google Cloud Platform. I opened a
SSH session using the button on the Google Cloud Platform page, the page
opened, the session started and then I chose the save file to upload
(choosing the gear on top right and then upload file).

It's a 64 MB save. After 2% upload, the local system freezes entirely.
Nothing responds, even REISUB don't work any more. After forcefully
shutting down the local computer, on the next boot, the local computer's
root file system is corrupted.

On the remote machine, the file was partially send but it was also
corrupted.

[Bug 1951279] Re: OpenSSL 1.1.1f raise a segmentation faults on Arm64 builds

2021-12-25 Thread David Hess
After a lot of sleuthing with gdb, I'm pretty confident this is the
source of (and fix for) the crash we are seeing with libssl1.1:arm64
1.1.1f-1ubuntu2.10:

https://github.com/openssl/openssl/commit/fcf6e9d056162d5af64c6f7209388a5c3be2ce57

It's a bug fix for some pointer authentication assembly instructions for
the Poly1305 arm64 assembly code. These instructions only execute (and
crash) on Arm v8.3 64 bit processors - they NOOP on other processors
that don't understand them.

Note, I have no idea why that code would not also be a problem and crash
under valgrind, but I've definitely narrowed this particular crash
outside of valgrind down to that location. Maybe it disables pointer
authentication?

It appears the commit above was landed in OpenSSL 1.1.1i:

https://github.com/openssl/openssl/blob/OpenSSL_1_1_1i/crypto/poly1305/asm/poly1305-armv8.pl

Bottom line, in order to prevent crashes on Arm v8.3 processors I
believe addressing this requires an upgrade of libssl1.1 to OpenSSL
1.1.1i.

I have encountered the same problem while using Cisco AnyConnect. Found
out that it is libwebkit2gtk related. It seems it can't cope with
wayland. Does it work if you launch with

[Bug 1955743] Re: Ubuntu rocks! except when the installation...

2021-12-25 Thread Erich Eickmeyer 
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:

1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Please also ensure that you include the release and flavour of Ubuntu
that you are using.

Thank you!

[Bug 1955742] [NEW] `ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'pip'` for python3.10 virtual environment on Ubuntu 21.04

2021-12-25 Thread Alain Mosnier
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

$ sudo apt install python3.10-full
$ mkvirtualenv -p /usr/bin/python3.10 test3.10
$ pip list
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/home/alain/.virtualenvs/test3.10/bin/pip", line 5, in
from pip._internal.cli.main import main
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'pip'

Expected behavior: pip should be found directly in the new virtual
environment. With a Python 3.10 installed from source, it does.

Has been described by others than me:

It would be real nice if the ubuntu livecd iso for usb booting could

[Bug 1002952] Re: [meta-bug] Invalid extra "Digital output S/PDIF" device for USB cards

2021-12-25 Thread Edle8
I have the same issue with the following USB devices:

"Sennheiser SC60 for Lync" (USB headset)
"Jabra SPEAK 410 USB" (conference speakerphone)
"HD Pro Webcam C920" (webcam with microphone)

I confirm that the workaround is still valid for the mentioned devices.
