[Bug 1964082] Re: MAAS deployment to raspberry pi fails for release 21.10

2022-03-08 Thread Juerg Haefliger

This is a follow-up for bug 1940504 for Jammy 5.15+ kernels. oem-5.14 is
to be upgraded to hwe-5.15, so we'll need this for oem-enabled ADL-P

[Bug 1964303] [NEW] Optionally allow building CPC images with core (16.04) based snaps

2022-03-08 Thread Thomas Bechtold
Public bug reported:

Commit 245f7772bdb743547e4d2f7df2475afc0eb5ec1e aborts the build when a snap
still depends on core (16.04 runtime).
That's fine for Ubuntu but the CPC team builds images which still depend on
core (that will be fixed soon).
So adding an option to allow those builds will fix the problem.

[Bug 1962135] Re: [SRU] gstreamer 1.16.3 series

2022-03-08 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello kunal, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gst-plugins-base1.0 into focal-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gst-
plugins-base1.0/1.16.3-0ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

2022-03-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

Hello!

Sorry for the very late reply...

First of all, there have been a few Linux kernel updates in Ubuntu 20.04
since you opened this issue. Please upgrade your system and check if you
have the latest available version of the kernel installed; in a
terminal, you can run these commands:

sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
uname -r

You should get something like "5.13.0-30-generic".

If the problem still persists, install the Video4Linux utility package
and check what formats and resolutions are available for the webcam;
again, in a terminal:

sudo apt install v4l-utils
v4l2-ctl -D --list-formats-ext

You should get something like:

=
Driver Info:
Driver name : uvcvideo
Card type: Video Capture 5
Bus info : usb-:00:14.0-3
Driver version : 5.13.19
Capabilities : 0x84a1
(...)
[1]: 'MJPG' (Motion-JPEG, compressed)
Size: Discrete 640x480
(...)
=

Please attach the output of the v4l2-ctl command to this issue so we can
investigate.

Thanks!

[Bug 1960996] Re: [sru] sos upstream 4.3

2022-03-08 Thread nikhil kshirsagar
I have tested sos 4.3-1ubuntu0.21.10.1 on an impish VM and verified that
everything looks OK.

I also tested hotsos on the generated sos archive.

Some details of the testing done -

Also used Jorge's script with an additional python script I hacked
together to brute force search missing files in the new sos version -

[Bug 1962135] Re: [SRU] gstreamer 1.16.3 series

2022-03-08 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello kunal, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gstreamer1.0 into focal-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gstreamer1.0/1.16.3-0ubuntu1 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

** Changed in: gstreamer1.0 (Ubuntu Focal)
Status: In Progress => Fix Committed

[Bug 1964285] [NEW] hit message "invoke-rc.d: policy-rc.d denied execution of stop" when uninstall open-vm-tools in ubuntu desktop 22.04 daily build

2022-03-08 Thread vmware-gos-Yuhua
Public bug reported:

For ubuntu 22.04 desktop dailybuild
  1) It outputs "invoke-rc.d: policy-rc.d deined execution of stop" when I
uninstall open-vm-tools with command "apt-get purge open-vm-tools". So the
servcies /usb/bin/vmtoolsd and /usr/bin/VGAuthService are still running.

  2) It outputs "invoke-rc.d: policy-rc.d deined execution of start"
when I install open-vm-tools with command "apt-get install open-vm-
tools". So the servcies /usb/bin/vmtoolsd and /usr/bin/VGAuthService are
not running automatically and I need to start the services manually.

The above behaviors are inconsistent with the ubuntu 22.04 live server daily
build and previous ubuntu version such as ubuntu 21.10.

In ubuntu 22.04 live server and previous distributions, servcies
/usb/bin/vmtoolsd and /usr/bin/VGAuthService are running automatically
when I install open-vm-tools and exit when I uninstall open-vm-tools

[Bug 1964126] Re: Wayland does not detect external monitor

2022-03-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I'm guessing the dock uses DisplayLink, in which case the compositor
needs to have implemented special support for that (like mutter/gnome-
shell already has). To confirm this theory, please tell us the model of
dock as well as running:

  lsmod > lsmod.txt
  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

and attach the resulting text files here.

[Bug 1964090] Re: i915 - image flickering and image artifacts

2022-03-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1867668 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1867668

You're confusing your kernel graphics driver for the Xorg graphics
driver. They're not the same thing and you need both:

 * Kernel graphics driver = i915 (there is no other option and if you disable
it then everything will break)
 * Xorg graphics driver = modesetting or intel

Once you have your system in a proper state with:

 * Kernel graphics driver = i915
 * Xorg graphics driver = modesetting

then please open new bugs for any remaining issues.

2022-03-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That all said, I haven't seen any reason why we should do anything other
than go with upstream's gdm patches. If Wayland needs to be avoided in
some Nvidia setups then we should do so to get at least the login
screen.

I'm confused though, because some people have made comments suggesting
it works. And I'm also wondering if I can implement some of the missing
code (maybe) since I've been working on that area of mutter recently.

[Bug 1963701] Re: [NVIDIA][Wayland] graphic target not able to reach as the only monitor connect to NV GPU only on I+N machine

2022-03-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
In a hybrid (usually muxless) laptop the BIOS will flag the Intel GPU is
the boot GPU, which means gnome-shell/mutter will flag that one as
"primary" and will do ALL shell rendering on it.

In a hybrid desktop/workstation the BIOS will *usually* disable the
integrated GPU leaving only the discrete GPU. But not always, and
sometimes it's configurable like in my NUC Extreme. If the BIOS has left
both GPUs enabled and booted with only the discrete GPU attached to a
monitor then it is likely gnome-shell/mutter will flag that one as
"primary" and will do the shell rendering on that "primary" discrete
GPU.

"Secondary" GPUs in mutter still do a little work but only so much as
copying the work of the primary GPU to external connectors owned by the
secondary GPU.

So that explains the difference between a typical hybrid laptop and
hybrid desktops.

I think we'll end up with multiple nvidia-wayland bugs in this area and
as soon as I have time I will be focussing on bug 1959888 first because
upstream (Jonas) seems confident that it's not implemented for hybrid
laptops and shouldn't work in Wayland sessions.

[Bug 1958488] Re: [nvidia][xorg] display hangs on boot LOGO due to race of gdm and nvidia driver probe

2022-03-08 Thread jeremyszu
Hi Seb,

FWIK, the fix from gdm is not mandatory.
The display-manager (inside u-d-c) will handle it.

but if any flavor which doesn't use u-d-c then gdm upstream also provide this
commit
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/-/commit/ecbd9694458194e24f356ba9d37fc4f3a515c3dd#note_1402863
to fix this issue in GDM.

Says, if no one from a flavor (which doesn't use u-d-c) reports this
issue then we don't hurry to SRU gdm patches.
