[Bug 2062128] [NEW] Booting with nvidia proprietary drivers 550.67 results in gdm3 being displayed on X11 rather than Wayland

2024-04-17 Thread Jamie R. McPeek
Public bug reported:

I am testing Ubuntu 24.04 beta and using the proprietary NVIDIA drivers
(550.67).

Prior to installing the drivers packages (using nouveau), the system
would load gdm3 in Wayland.

After installer the drivers package, the system would load gdm3 in X11.

This appears to be caused by the configuration file at
/usr/lib/udev/rules.d/61-gdm.rules

However, according to the comments in the rules file, it should prefer
Wayland:

# Disable wayland when nvidia modeset is disabled or when drivers are a lower
# version than 470,
# For versions above 470 but lower than 510 prefer Xorg,
# Above 510, prefer Wayland.

I am able to work around this by making a system override on the file,
in /etc/udev/rules.d:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Apr 18 00:34 61-gdm.rules -> /dev/null

With this in place, when booting, gdm3 will be loaded with Wayland.

[Bug 2062126] [NEW] Booting with laptop lid closed and external monitors on X11 causes the computer to sleep prior to login

2024-04-17 Thread Jamie R. McPeek
Public bug reported:

When powering on a laptop with the lid closed, connected to a dock which
is connected to external monitors, if gdm3 is going to run on X11, the
computer is suspended prior to the login screen being displayed.

Tapping a key on the keyboard wakes the computer out of suspend and
immediately shows the login screen on the external monitors as expected.

The computer does not suspend prior to login if gdm3 is going to run on
Wayland.

I'm encountering this issue with Ubuntu 24.04 beta, and believe it may
be related to the following systemd issue:

[Bug 2052437] Re: python-boto: obsolete, replaced by python-boto3

2024-04-17 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
An extra word on why this all got so late and lost for too long for full
transparency. Simplestreams is held in main by `platform-git/supported-
maas:53: * python3-simplestreams`. It is per-subscriptions owned by not
one, but two teams (already bad) - server & maas teams for historical
reasons. But it is actually maintained by Paride (foundations / QA) and
code contributions mostly are from CPC which publish into it. Sadly this
setup was begging for things top be lost in the mid of shared
responsibilities. This needed a lessons learned and discussions
happened, the outcome is that CPC will take over ownership in a bit
(With some remaining support from Paride in the cases where it is
actually about infrastructure issues). Eric has a task to work out that
transfer.

[Bug 2062106] Re: lubuntu noble - snap-seed-glue --seed ..calamares..snapd/seed krita -- failed to finish in 900 seconds

2024-04-17 Thread Chris Guiver
If this isn't changed... Lubuntu (me) could always add a page at

https://discourse.lubuntu.me/c/documentation/20

In summary; my install worked; except
- the third party packages however were not installed,
- the `/var/log/installer` directory did NOT exist thus some metadata was
missing from the install etc

Users have the option of

(a) testing their systems, if it was like mine, everything appeared to
work perfectly, and they can just add the 3rd party apps themselves &
expect no further problems (they're unlikely to notice the missing
metadata anyway)

OR

(b) restart install WITHOUT 3rd party apps... then reboot into their new
install, and add the third party apps themselves. This option will
ensure they have all their metadata (ie. in the future can look up what
media they used for install, details of install etc, details that would
be missing with alternative (a))

[Bug 2060193] Re: iwlwifi microcode crash when using wrong password to join a WPA3 access point

2024-04-17 Thread AceLan Kao
This kind of iwlwifi microcode crashes usually results from the router(Access
Point).
Have you tried to cold reboot your AP?

From other discussion I found on the net, the issue might be related to 40MHz
channel, you probably could try the below setting.
   options cfg80211 cfg80211_disable_40mhz_24ghz=Y

[Bug 2062119] [NEW] autopkgtests fail on ppc64el

2024-04-17 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Public bug reported:

As part of the added QA to libtracefs it was found that it triggers issues on
ppc64el.
It is not yet clear if those are just test artifacts or real deeper problems.

Either way, while in the time pressure of the noble release the decision
was simplified like "The tests didn't make it worse, just now we know"
and continued (To not leave these platforms behind later unable to add
it, albeit knowing it is still incomplete for now).

It does not mean that we can ignore them for too long and certainly need
to work on completing that into being fully functional in tests and real
usage. Hence we create this spin off bug from the MIR work in bug
2051925 for tracking the further efforts.

Example test log:

[Bug 2062118] [NEW] autopkgtests fail on s390x (segfault)

Public bug reported:

As part of the added QA to libtracefs it was found that it triggers a segfault

was simplified like "The tests didn't make it worse, just now we know"
and continued (To not leave these platforms behind later unable to add
it, albeit knowing it is still incomplete for now).

[Bug 2062118] Re: autopkgtests fail on s390x (segfault)

2024-04-17 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
I'll assign Adrien as the agreement on the MIR was to follow up on
these, but also Frank to sync this with IBM for their input which TBH
could be anything from "here is the fix" to a worse "it will never work
please remove it"

Also there is a sibling of this for ppc64el in bug 2062119

[Bug 2062082] Re: 24.04 Wayland vs Nautilus performance problem

2024-04-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
BTW Chrome probably still defaults to using X11 instead of Wayland, and
so you likely would hit bug 1970389. That's why I mention xlsclients...
It's also why we default to Xorg for Nvidia systems and recommend you
use Xorg with the Nvidia proprietary driver.

P.S. Is "zink Vulkan 1.3" something you configured or was that the
system default? Where did you get that information from?

[Bug 2062082] Re: 24.04 Wayland vs Nautilus performance problem

2024-04-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report.

Please try:

1. sudo rm /dev/dri/card0 # to work around bug 2060268, and then log in
again. Did that solve it?

2. When the problem starts happening please open a Terminal and run:

   journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
   xlsclients > xclients.txt

and attach the resulting text files here.

3. While the problem is happening run 'top' in a Terminal window and
tell us which process (if any) is using high CPU.

[Bug 2042363] Re: AIX 7.3 NFS client frequently returns an EIO error to an application when reading or writing to a file that has been locked with fcntl() on a Ubuntu 20.04 NFSV4 server

2024-04-17 Thread GuoqingJiang
Sorry, I can't distinguish which parts of logs in the attachments
(#comment11, #comment12 and #comment13) are belong to the connection
from working 7.2 and non-working 7.3. All the attachments have "TCP
recvfrom got EAGAIN" which should from the connection for 7.3.

$ grep "TCP recvfrom got EAGAIN"
syslog_16042024_amaliada_primary_adamsongrunter_partner_both_aix73_part1.log
-r|wc -l
213127
$ grep "TCP recvfrom got EAGAIN"
syslog_16042024_amaliada_primary_adamsongrunter_partner_both_aix73_part2.log
-r|wc -l
226005
$ grep "TCP recvfrom got EAGAIN"
syslog_17042024_adia_primary_amberjack_partner_both_aix72.log -r|wc -l
20233

May I suggest to collect those logs in two separated files? One from 7.2 and
another from 7.3 instead of mix them together.

Not an network expert, but I see some NFS RENEW ops packets between
9.20.32.85 (server) and 9.20.120.127 (7.2 client) in
tcp_dump17_04_2024_09H_10M, but no such RENEW packets for 9.20.32.85
(server) and 9.20.120.112 (7.3 client) in tcpdump16_04_2024_14H_03M.
Given NFS4 is a stateful fs which is based on leases, without client
send an operation to renew the lease, it is possible for server to
return EAGAIN. And please check if 7.3 client is not same as 7.2 client
regarding lease renewing.

[Bug 2060268] Re: Phantom 46" monitor (simpledrm) shown in Settings after installing the Nvidia driver

2024-04-17 Thread Cristiano Fraga G. Nunes
I have the same issue:

I recently installed Ubuntu 24.04 for testing purposes and have
encountered an unexpected issue.

The 'Displays' configuration indicates the presence of three monitors, like
this:
1) Dell Inc. 27"
2) Dell Inc. 27"
3) Unknown Display
However, I only have two displays and not a third one.

When moving the cursor to the extreme right corner of the screen, the
entire display shifts to the right. Below are the pertinent details:

Configuration:
- Utilizing: two monitors
- Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER
- Environment: Xorg
- Driver Version: Nvidia driver 535.161.07

This behavior disrupts normal workflow and consistency in display
management. Any insights or solutions to address this issue would be
greatly appreciated. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Client
--

$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install cifs-utils
$ mkdir ~/share
$ sudo mount -t cifs -o username=ubuntu //192.168.122.172/sambashare ~/share

The client is using 5.15.0-102-generic from updates:

$ uname -rv
5.15.0-102-generic #112-Ubuntu SMP Tue Mar 5 16:50:32 UTC 2024

$ sudo -s
# while true; do echo "$(date) hallo" >> ./share/hallo.txt; sleep 1 ; done

Launch a separate terminal and run:

$ df -h ~/share
df: /home/ubuntu/share: Resource temporarily unavailable

The issue is seen.

I then enabled -proposed and installed 5.15.0-105-generic.

I had to use the -proposed2 repository due to the packages not being present
in the primary archive -proposed repository.

https://launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-team/+archive/ubuntu/proposed2

$ uname -rv
5.15.0-105-generic #115-Ubuntu SMP Mon Apr 15 09:52:04 UTC 2024

$ sudo -s
# while true; do echo "$(date) hallo" >> ./share/hallo.txt; sleep 1 ; done

$ df -h ~/share
FilesystemSize Used Avail Use% Mounted on
//192.168.122.247/sambashare  9.6G  2.1G  7.5G  23% /home/ubuntu/share

CIFS is back to working again, and we can df the share and see the disk
usage.

The respun kernel in -proposed fixes the issue, happy to mark verified
for Jammy.

[Bug 2004516] Re: [MIR] libyuv (transitive dependency of libheif)

2024-04-17 Thread Mark Esler
I reviewed libyuv 0.0~git202401110.af6ac82-1 as checked into noble. This
shouldn't be considered a full audit but rather a quick gauge of
maintainability.

libyuv is an open source project that includes YUV scaling and
conversion functionality.

- CVE History:
  - none
  - open bug reports are not a security concern
- https://bugs.chromium.org/p/libyuv/issues/list
- Build-Depends?
  - googletest build depend
- pre/post inst/rm scripts?
  - none
- init scripts?
  - none
- systemd units?
  - none
- dbus services?
  - none
- setuid binaries?
  - none
- binaries in PATH?
  - from libyuv-utils
- ./usr/bin/yuvconstants
- ./usr/bin/yuvconvert
- sudo fragments?
  - none
- polkit files?
  - none
- udev rules?
  - none
- unit tests / autopkgtests?
  - from d/rules, it appears all tests on armel s390x powerpc ppc64 and sparc64
are disabled
  - on amd64, 40 disabled tests
  - 256 counts of -Wstringop-overflow in build logs due to tests
  - more bugs in test possible, see coverity section
  - rather thorough testing otherwise
- cron jobs?
  - none
- Build logs:
  - missing man pages for binaries
  - 256 counts of -Wstringop-overflow due to tests

- Processes spawned?
  - only in python, and in a script for maintaining upstream deps
- not relevant
- Memory management?
  - tests cause string overflows with memtest
- just a bug, not a security concern
  - see coverity section
  - moderate memcpy use outside of tests
- looks okay
- File IO?
  - c++ fopen use appears safe
  - ignoring python upstream maintenance helper scripts
- Logging?
  - no logging outside of python
  - Python uses logging.debug and logging.error
- Environment variable usage?
  - only used for tests
- Use of privileged functions?
  - none
- Use of cryptography / random number sources etc?
  - none
- Use of temp files?
  - none
- Use of networking?
  - none
- Use of PolicyKit?
  - none

- Any significant cppcheck results?
  - not a concern
- Any significant Coverity results?
  - non-security bug reported
- https://bugs.chromium.org/p/libyuv/issues/detail?id=979
  - many more non-relevant issues in tests
- ignoring
- upstream should improve unit tests.
  - ./tools_libyuv/ seems dangerous, but appears to only be for upstream
maintenance
- okay
  - unchecked return in ./util/yuconvert.cc:243
  - report of uninitialized scalar variabile in ./util/yuconvert.cc seems
difficult to trigger
  - MJpegDecoder::MJpegDecoder() does not initialize buf_vec_.pos
- this is set early in MJpegDecoder::LoadFrame(), so probably *fine*
- Any significant shellcheck results?
  - none
- Any significant bandit results?
  - none
  - only in irrelevant source code maintenance scripts

This was an expedited and less thorough review.

Security team ACK for promoting foot to main.
