[Bug 722769] Re: After prepare for installation ubiquity hang because child wget process is zombie

2011-04-30 Thread Chris Olin
Also experiencing this problem with 04282011 AMD64 Desktop LiveCD.

Tracing the ubiquity process gives the following.

Process 17136 attached - interrupt to quit
restart_syscall(... resuming interrupted call ...) = 0
wait4(17140, 0x7fff10d558cc, WNOHANG, NULL) = 0
stat(/proc/17140, {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0555, st_size=0, ...}) = 0
open(/proc/17140/stat, O_RDONLY) = 18
read(18, 17140 (sudo) S 17136 17140 17140..., 8191) = 185
read(18, , 8006) = 0
close(18) = 0
nanosleep({0, 1}, NULL) = 0
wait4(17140, 0x7fff10d558cc, WNOHANG, NULL) = 0
stat(/proc/17140, {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0555, st_size=0, ...}) = 0
open(/proc/17140/stat, O_RDONLY) = 18
read(18, 17140 (sudo) S 17136 17140 17140..., 8191) = 185
read(18, , 8006) = 0
close(18) = 0
nanosleep({0, 1}, NULL) = 0
wait4(17140, 0x7fff10d558cc, WNOHANG, NULL) = 0
stat(/proc/17140, {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0555, st_size=0, ...}) = 0
open(/proc/17140/stat, O_RDONLY) = 18

read(18, , 8006) = 0
close(18) = 0

Which just repeats over and over and over.

[Bug 453732] Re: audacity crashed with SIGSEGV when setting ffmpeg library

2010-07-10 Thread Chris Olin
Audacity doesn't load the libavformat library that comes with the
Maverick ffmpeg packages. I'm able to locate it, but when I click Ok,
the library version is still listed as FFmpeg library not found.

My laptop is more or less a production machines and I don't feel
comfortable running Maverick on it while it's still in beta.

[Bug 405544] Re: Unable to burn CD or DVD with 2.6.31 kernel

2010-07-09 Thread Chris Olin
I've also run into this problem. I first experienced it a few days ago
and it magically fixed itself. I burned about 3 or 4 DVDs since
Wednesday night when it just started working on its own until now, where
I'm having the same problem again and it's not going away.

I'm going to try the 2.6.32 kernel mentioned in post #58 and #63.

[Bug 405544] Re: Unable to burn CD or DVD with 2.6.31 kernel

2010-07-09 Thread Chris Olin
No luck with the mentioned 2.6.32 kernel, so I removed it and went back
to my previous kernel. I started playing with Brasero and K3b and K3b
magically decided to work. I still get the dmesg I/O errors, but it's
still burning.

And it's crashing again. I was able to get one m4a song to import, make
the changes I needed to, and exported to .wav.

[Bug 470560] Re: package libanyevent-perl (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/share/man/man3/AnyEvent.3pm.gz', which is also in package anyevent-perl 0:1.02-0.2

2010-05-04 Thread Chris Olin
I also ran into this bug when I upgraded a few days ago from 9.10 to
10.04.

Jonathan Harker's advice (post #9) to dpkg -r anyevent-perl solved my
problem since apt-get will spit back errors trying to remove or add
anything because of this libanyevent-perl package.

[Bug 549727] Re: [10.04] Touchpad stops working after login

2010-05-01 Thread Chris Olin
Upgrading from Karmic to Lucid, it seems the xserver-xorg-input-
synaptics package was removed and never reinstalled. When I went to try
Chris Highfield's idea (#9), I noticed the package was a dependency and
was downloaded because it wasn't installed.

Since the other two packages he suggested downloaded and installed, I'll
never know if it was the two programs he suggested or the missing
xserver-synaptics package causing the problem. Nonetheless, it's fixed
now.
