[Bug 1921637] Re: [Lenovo ideapad 720S-13IKB] Flickering display
Update: No ubuntu 21.04 still has this issue, didnt need to even install it. As soon as I booted from USB it would tear and flicker. Once the screen appeared for the installation, mouse movement would trigger more tearing. [Bug 1921637] Re: [Lenovo ideapad 720S-13IKB] Flickering display
1. https://imgur.com/ATtP0fj ^ This is an older video as I'm unable to record one at the moment, although I can later today. The issue from this video was from a while ago, back then the issue only occurred when the screen went to sleep and was waken up. Now the issue starts from the moment the user selection appears. 2. I have tried that before, the issue persists 3. I have tried that before, the issue persists I have tried different Linux OS'es and I've tried different Ubuntu Releases they all behave identically. The only operating system that does not reproduce this issue is Windows, but that's far from ideal. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1921637 Title: [Lenovo ideapad 720S-13IKB] Flickering display To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-hwe-5.8/+bug/1921637/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1921637] [NEW] Intel UHD Graphics 620
Public bug reported: Running Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS. Having consistent screen flickering on my display. No issues on Windows, only on Linux OS. The screen glitches and flickers consistently regardless of what I do. Straight from booting into user selection screen. The BIOS (Lenovo) Logo does not flicker, only once Linux is loaded that flickering begins. I have a 4k display on my laptop, and I have tried running 1080p 120Hz / 60Hz, 4K whatever. The flickering never stops. Any help would be greatly appreciated I'm happy to send dmesg or any extra debugging necessary. After intensive research and asking other forums, it has been said that the issue is with the Intel Driver, specifically the above package reported. [Bug 1831808] [NEW] nexttowardl for ppc64el generates wrong results

[Bug 1761999] Re: general protection fault: 0000 [#1] SMP NOPTI
I had an ugly instance of this problem on an EPYC processor. Not sure what it was related to. It all started with errors during package upgrades. sudo apt-get update >> success sudo apt-get upgrade >> segmentation fault The upgrade left several packages in a half-installed state (attach Part 1), and basic os command started to crash (attach Part 2). In the syslog I had "general protection fault: [#1] SMP NOPTI" with multiple processes, see a detail failure log in attach Part 3 and Part 4. Attach Part 5 lists numerous processes that had the same failure as Part 4. The system load started to climb, from idle, progressively by about 1 point per 3-5 min, until levels like 20-30, at this point it was very difficult to enter and reboot the system. I tried and managed to have it respond with reboot -f but it had the problem still and system did not come up correctly, until we performed a physical shutdown and restart. From then the system seems clean. I corrected the packages by reinstallation, and so far no problem. Very frightening! Can it be related to some problem between Ubuntu and the Ryzen/EPYC technology? Please comment if you think this is a completely different bug. [Bug 1585111] Re: net rpc join fails in Ubuntu 16.04
I don’t now if this can help 1) On a Xubuntu 12,04 the samba shares became inaccessible after update to Xubuntu 14.04 (Access denied for Windows an Samba clients). About one year latter they became accessible again. Probably due to a samba upgrade. 2) The shares became inaccessible again after upgrade to Xubuntu 16,04. I tried all combinations of client use spnego = no, client NTLMv2 auth = no, allow nt4 crypto = yes, require strong key = no without success. I removed the machine from the domain (Using Windows NT4 server manager). The machine can’t join the NT4 domain : No realm has been specified! Do you really want to join an Active Directory server? Failed to join domain: failed to lookup DC info for domain xx over rpc: Access denied (The smb.conf is for a NT4 domain, not for Active Directory. I tried all the cripto settings again.) 3) New machines with Xubuntu 16.04 and Ubuntu server 16.04.2 have never been able to join the domain : same message. Primary an backup domain controller are Winndows NT4,0 Service pack 6. As temporary solution, I moved the shares to Windows running in VirtualBox with bridged network access. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1585111 Title: net rpc join fails in Ubuntu 16.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1585111/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1560686] [NEW] Invalid assembly is generated when using intel syntax
Public bug reported: Invalid assembly code is generated when intel syntax (-masm=intel) is used and there are any symbols of the same name as CPU register. For example: int ST = 42; int main() { return ST; } Will produce messages like: /tmp/ccglHDgh.s: Assembler messages: /tmp/ccglHDgh.s:21: Error: invalid use of register The problem is that GCC will generate nonsense like that: mov eax, DWORD PTR ST[rip] In case of such trivial example, it is very easy to find what the problem is but it can be really tricky to find the cause in larger projects. [Bug 1550779] Re: [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun - Xorg glitches
So it turn out when I rebuild the package for 4.2.0-27 I already see that glitches occurring in that specific kernel version. So it look like there is difference between the package I built and the official package or I screwed up the build process? Here is what I did, I have to say the wik page you linked was very verbose. I know what git bisect works, however I don't how to build a Ubuntu kernel package (kteam-tools produced some errors for me) I took the steps from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/GitKernelBuild#Using_Ubuntu_Kernel_Configuration Can you check if those steps should produce a correct package? sudo apt-get install git build-essential kernel-package fakeroot libncurses5-dev libssl-dev ccache --no-install-recommends # because of texlive git clone git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-wily.git cd ubuntu-wily/ cp -a /usr/share/kernel-package ubuntu-package cp debian/control-scripts/{postinst,postrm,preinst,prerm} ubuntu-package/pkg/image/ cp debian/control-scripts/headers-postinst ubuntu-package/pkg/headers/ # set up ccache because I thought this will save time while bisecting -- however mostly cache misses vim ~/.bashrc if [ -d /usr/lib/ccache ]; then export PATH=/usr/lib/ccache:"${PATH}" export CCACHE_NLEVELS=5 fi ccache -M 10G cp /boot/config-4.2.0-27-generic .config make localmodconfig # because building all modules takes forever make oldconfig CONCURRENCY_LEVEL=`getconf _NPROCESSORS_ONLN` fakeroot make-kpkg --initrd --append-to-version=-custom --overlay-dir=$(pwd)/ubuntu-package kernel_image kernel_headers cd .. dpkg -i *.deb #git tag --list #git bisect start #git bisect good Ubuntu-4.2.0-27.32 #git bisect bad Ubuntu-4.2.0-30.36 # Here I did noticed that after the 6 commits all commits where bad. Please see the updated conversation in the gnome Bugtracker. For me I looks like this a thing related to (d/p/revert-gsettings- removals.patch: Refreshed), because if I disable the wacom plugin.. sudo mv /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon-3.0/wacom.gnome-settings-plugin /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon-3.0/.wacom.gnome-settings-plugin.bak gsd works as expected again. (yay!) @Joe can you confirm? I don't why we didn't catch that earlier. Is it the case the patches are already applied in the source I download with `apt-get source gnome-settings-daemon` and I have to revert the manually? I thought it would suffice to delete all patches in debian/patches directory. [Bug 1079440] Re: i945: Random complete freeze using dual monitors
With 12.10 I can confirm the multi monitor setup problem. With 13.04 (3.8.0-12 generic) this problem also occurs also without using a second monitor. Ctrl+Alt+F1 doesn't work. Via SSH I can see that Xorg uses up 99% of one CPU core. I don't see any relevant output in X.org.0.log or dmesg. Keith's workaround `sudo taskset -pa 1 $(pgrep -x Xorg` fixes the issue temporarily. I'm able to help with further logs or debugging. lspci -vv: http://pastebin.com/jmz7mAcE -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1079440 Title: i945: Random complete freeze using dual monitors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1079440/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 894671 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/894671 My update-manager does not freeze. Its Install updates simply fails to function. The button permits me to click but it performs nothing. Likewise, software center will not update. I completely removed, then reinstalled the aptdaemon items, but that had no effect. I am also unable to manage users. This began with my UPGRADE from 64 bit 10.04 to 10.10 and subsequently to the present 11.04 upgrade. I had thought the problem might be in a user-space config file of some sort, but have no idea where that might be.
