[Bug 1418295] Re: Black screen after resuming from suspend

2015-02-09 Thread Jeremy Jongsma
Marco: no panel clicking is usually involved. All I need to do to
reproduce it is close my laptop lid. Sometimes the first suspend cycle
works fine, but in that case repeating it a second time always
reproduces this issue.

[Bug 1418295] Re: Black screen after resuming from suspend

2015-02-05 Thread Jeremy Jongsma
I was hopeful, it worked great a few times in a row, but as I was about
to call it fixed it came back. This time the desktop was visible instead
of black, but again I couldn't interact with anything.

Killing unity-panel-service was the solution again. I reported this here
because I saw a lot of similar reports on the intel driver from previous
Ubuntu releases, but I'm beginning to wonder if it's a Unity issue.

[Bug 1418295] Re: Black screen after resuming from suspend

2015-02-05 Thread Jeremy Jongsma
Switching VTs has no effect, tried several times just now. Killing the
unity-panel-service resolved it again. I usually have to kill -9 it,
then a new one respawns, then I kill that one normally, and the lock
screen generally reappears then.

I'll install today's driver update and recheck next time it occurs.

[Bug 1418295] [NEW] Black screen after resuming from suspend

2015-02-04 Thread Jeremy Jongsma
Public bug reported:

Using Ubuntu 14.10 on a Lenovo Yoga 2, when I resume the laptop from
suspend I frequently (around 50% of the time) get a blank black screen
with a mouse cursor on it, and am unable to login or interact with the
desktop at all. Often (also about 50% of the time) switching over to a
text terminal and killing "unity-panel-service --lockscreen-mode" causes
it to snap out of it and prompt me with the unlock dialog when I switch
back to X.

[Bug 531190] Re: upower (devkit-power) reporting bad data when AC cable is unplugged

2010-12-08 Thread Jeremy Jongsma
Brand new Dell Vostro 3700 running Maverick, fully charged battery,
seeing the same behavior - it wants to hibernate as soon as I unplug.
Using the workaround, when I unplug it still says "5 minutes of power
left" (but at least does not hibernate), then within a few seconds it
updates to tell me I have 2 hours 45 minutes of power. This looks
really sloppy and confusing.

Same on my Dell Vostro 1710. After resume from suspend, if I unplug the

Fortunately it doesn't actually hibernate for me (just displays the

[Bug 578853] [NEW] After changing device profile to "Off", it can't be reenabled without restarting pulseaudio

2010-05-11 Thread Jeremy Jongsma
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

In the sound preferences "Hardware" tab, if I change the Profile for a
device to "Off", all sound stops and all sound-related settings are
disabled - so far so good. But, when I switch it back to "Analog Stereo
Duplex", input is still disabled, only "Dummy Output" is listed in the
output tab, and all sound and volume controls are still disabled.

Only fix is to restart pulseaudio. Not a big issue - I only did this by
accident, it's not going to be a common action - but I figure as long as
the profiles are there they should work properly.

Thanks Leann. My mixer settings are attached in the screen shot. I
will attach ALSA settings below. The sound recorder in my screenshot
results in a blank file - the mic level reading is just from having the
recording levels cranked so high in the mixer during this test.

Also, I should mention that this mic works fine in Vista, so I've
eliminated hardware issues as the problem.

[Bug 305525] [NEW] Front mic not working with snd-hda-intel on Dell Vostro 1710

2008-12-05 Thread Jeremy Jongsma
Public bug reported:

My Dell Vostro 1710 has two mic inputs - a normal mic jack and a built-
in microphone on the top of the screen. The jack input works, but the
built-in does not. Tried with stock configuration and with model=dell
module option (using snd-hda-intel driver).

In the Gnome volume control "Options" tab, a "Front Mic" source is
displayed in the Input Source dropdown, but selecting it has no effect.

[Bug 251252] Re: linux-image-2.6.24-20-generic causes kernel panic upon suspend

2008-07-24 Thread Jeremy Jongsma
Also seeing this after upgrading to 2.6.24-20-generic. Booting with
2.6.24-19-generic results in successful suspend again.

Laptop is a Dell Vostro 1710, fully updated Hardy w/ linux-backports-
modules-hardy installed.

Panic screenshot attached.
