On log in, desktop tries to load but then returns to the log in screen
again. I usually have to solve this with failsafe gnome. I log in and
then delete the .gnome2 and .gnome2_private folders. And this
temporarily solves the problem because it happens on the next log in.

The problem seemed to be the device being busy or unavailable. Check
your session to see if any application is running in the background,
using alsa, if there is you can kill it and then run `asound.conf set-
default-card card_name` in my case Intel and that was it.
