[Bug 417025] [NEW] CRON stacks processes and system eventually becomes unresponsive due to too many open files

2009-08-21 Thread LoneWlf
Public bug reported:

-bash: ~ $ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04

I'm not sure where exactly the problem lies as I haven't been able to
capture much data, but I'll do my best here.

I have a system that runs several cronjobs once a minute and several
more once every five. Since my upgrade it has been crashing at random
every 1-5 days, and when I say crashing, I mean that while the system is
up, unless you already have a login you cannot login again, and it
stacks cron processes, infinitely, ssh times out, and if you're on the
console and try to login it stops right before giving you a shell. I
don't know which piece of the login process specifically becomes broken,
and I'm reticent to assign this to bash or any specific shell as it it
happening to everyone (and not all the same shell). So, when things
break, I am forced to reboot, gracefully if the system doesn't already
have too many open files... hard otherwise.

What else can I collect to start troubleshooting this issue?

Please let me know what other information I can get and what procedures
to use to obtain it, I'm currently booting the broken installation on an
alternate hard drive and can get in using the safe mode to a command
prompt 'netroot' off the fix me screen that comes up.

[Bug 383216] [NEW] [i915] Jaunty X completely unusable

2009-06-03 Thread LoneWlf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

After upgrading to Jaunty Jakalope (Ubuntu 9.04) X is completely
unusable.

I attempted to follow the instructions on the release notes for the Safe
configuration, but still X is locking up on every load.

I have been forced to revert to 8.10.

I have not yet attempted an installation of Jaunty with the reverted
driver as I have to be able to use this computer for work.

This is a Dell Optiplex GX280 with hardware as listed in the attached
lspci -vvnn

Reading thru my Xorg.0.log it appears that its locking right before
being able to load XEVIE internal module, or at least the DAMAGE module
is the last thing loaded.
