[Bug 296867] Re: empathy needs to support OTR encryption

2010-06-16 Thread Mathew Hennessy
One of the advantages of tools like Empathy is the ability to support a
multi-service situation. It allows me to run a single app, and connect
to any service I need.

So does pidgin. And it supports OTR.

I've also done an aptitude reinstall fglrx, no luck. In 'low graphics'

[Bug 123601] Re: Gnome sound settings aren't connected and have no effect on Alsa

2010-01-18 Thread Mathew Hennessy
I've disabled pulseaudio because it has huge problems working with
VirtualBox and gone back to ALSA.

Is there an applet equivalent in the Karmic repos to provide volume
control using ALSA? I'm currently using gnome-alsamixer but it's big
and bulky.

I do hope PulseAudio will actually work properly with all apps someday,
as it's usually better than aRTs, but having choppy audio in VirtualBox
is a showstopper for me.

Should I attempt to use the Highpoint drivers, and if so, how would I go
about doing that during installation? Has anyone got a known working
driver that I could use with the alternate installer (when it prompts

just installed the -j packages and all seems OK (get youtube, flash

I run from shell:

The program 'npviewer.bin' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 256 error_code 3 request_code 18 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

[Bug 386767] [NEW] Wishlist: add Sd2f image burning support

2009-06-13 Thread Mathew Hennessy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

Toast on Mac will create .Sd2f files by default, though saving as
bin/cue will work as well.

It would be nice to be able to handle everything anyone can throw at me,
especially in emergency situations.

Please add Sd2f support to the wishlist.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: amd64
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/brasero
Package: brasero 2.26.1-0ubuntu1

[Bug 385846] Re: mplayer/mencoder are missing -ac dtscd

2009-06-11 Thread Mathew Hennessy
Thanks for the reply! I've actually gone ahead and rebuilt from
mplayer's svn, and I think the issue here is that dtscd has rolled into
dts/hwdts.. Just have to specify -channels 6 for a multichannel track..
Gonna try it with ps3mediaserver tomorrow..

Just verified that -channels works fine with stock Jaunty too:

Any FAQ on how I would go about using Heartbeat 2.99? Is there a
rawhide equivalent deb line for apt sources I should use to get it?

[Bug 364135] [NEW] Alternate Install CD doesn't have fsck

2009-04-20 Thread Mathew Hennessy
Public bug reported:

I had an issue with ext4 on my Ubuntu 9.04 netbook that needed fscking,
but the Alternate Installer CD I burned (for another box, to try LVM on
root) did not have any fsck utility in the Rescue boot.

Every installer of Ubuntu should be able to recover any installed system
of that level or earlier, so you'd need a full suite of tools for
filesystem recovery, or at the very least fsck.* (for all filesystems
supported for OS install at that level or earlier) and fdisk/cfdisk.

I was able to burn a standard Desktop ISO and this worked, but in
general (or specifically emergency situations without access to blank
media) you should be able to pop in any Ubuntu LiveCD and recover
filesystems to the point where they boot (AKA fsck, mount, fdisk)..

[Bug 314054] Re: Support for changing hw MAC address of network device is needed in nm-connection-editor

2009-04-20 Thread Mathew Hennessy
wicd supports this by letting you attach a shell script to connection
build/teardown, but apparently attwifi is a bit cleverer than just using
MACs and the iPhone browser useragent :p

Though wicd ends up being kind of ugly in netbook remix, and it's a bit
slooow, it does have this functionality, and NetworkManager is fail.

[Bug 322466] Re: netbook-launcher should automount drives

2009-03-31 Thread Mathew Hennessy
Please make this a preference.. Whenever I return from
suspend/hibernate a Nautilus window with my SD card pops up. I HATE
THIS, and would like to disable it please!!

I've disabled the Nautilus and GVM automount prefs, please at least add
an automount pref in gconf or some way to black/whitelist the netbook-
launcher behavior...

[Bug 314054] Re: Support for changing hw MAC address of network device is needed in nm-connection-editor

2009-03-31 Thread Mathew Hennessy
This is annoying. I want to be able to modify my wlan0's MAC via
NetworkManager (edit connections) so that I can attach to attwifi with
my iPhone, then put it in Airplane mode, and enable the manually-
configured connection for attwifi that has my iPhone's MAC on it.

Does wicd support this? I'll keep looking at wicd..
