[Bug 715504] [NEW] Can't get to Samba share in Nautilus but can in CLI
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus If I go to the CLI, I can type in smbclient //UBUNTU/Documents and it comes back and asks for my login, then I can see everything but if I bring up Nautilus, I get an error message. [Bug 494141] Re: CUPS starts after SAMBA; printers are not available (convert cups to upstart)
I've been running Ubuntu LTS Versions since 6.06 and doing the upgrades. I'm currently at 10.04 and I've got this exact same problem. I've tried adding in the fix listed in Comments #18 and #25 (the same fix), but that doesn't work at all - meaning Samba does not load at all and running smbtree gives me nothing. I have also tried putting the /etc/rc2.d/S50cups and move it to S05cups - but still doesn't work. I'm not sending the cups.conf file because I'm not on Maverick and it runs just fine if I stop and start cups then smbd Samba has been running fine with CUPS the last 3 1/2 years on that box with all the LTS updates applied and this last set broke a couple of things - but mostly CUPS / XSANE related. Any help or pointers appreciated -- CUPS starts after SAMBA; printers are not available (convert cups to upstart) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/494141 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 355400] Re: OpenLDAP doc page is horrible
Yeah - noticed that after I got a few more steps into it. I'm using 8.04 LTS and I found somewhere deep down that Intrepid automagically installs the cn=config. I'm trying to find some documentation that helps set up the openLDAP with Samba being the PDC. I might go to 9.04 because this is a new server install and that might be easier to do. [Bug 355400] Re: OpenLDAP doc page is horrible
After almost a full week - I've discovered a few of the things that are wrong with the documentation. First, it talks about using the cn=config tree which is NOT automagically created for you with the installation. You need to go to http://www.zytrax.com/books/ldap/ch6/slapd-config.html to create and populate the tree. It's been available since openLDAP 2.3 and should be used for that Since I didn't have the cn=config tree, I didn't have the credentials set up to access them - probably should have gotten a different error message. I'm just going to continue adding items until I get this working! -- OpenLDAP doc page is horrible https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/355400 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 355400] Re: OpenLDAP doc page is horrible
I too have been having a terrible time install openLDAP - first on a brand new 8.04 LTS server and now on another one (it's a development box). I do sudo apt-get install slapd ldap-utils then sudo dpkg-reconfigure slapd Saying "No" to Omit OpenLDAP server configuration? (which is confusing - why not Continue openLDAP server configuration? then have the answer default to "Yes") DNS Domain Name as imparisystems.local Organization name as (What is this? What should it be?) admin Password / twice (my supersecret password) Database backend to use HDB Do you want the database to be removed when slapd is purged? No Move old database? Yes Allow LDAPv2 protocol? No The configuration then comes back with Stopping OpenLDAP: slapd. Moving old database directory to /var/backups: - directory unknown... done. Creating initial slapd configuration... done. Creating initial LDAP directory... done. Reloading AppArmor profiles : done. Starting OpenLDAP: slapd. And then the first step is to configure your LDAP by typing ldapsearch -xLLL -b cn=config -D cn=admin,cn=config -W olcDatabase={1}hdb Enter LDAP Password: And everytime I get ldap_bind: Invalid credentials (49) ldapsearch -xLLL -b cn=config -D cn=admin,cn=config -W olcDatabase={1}hdb -- OpenLDAP doc page is horrible https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/355400 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 267371] Re: Damaged OpenOffice files from samba shares
Okay - I'm no Linux geek, but trying... I do have gvfs installed - I have Ubuntu 8.04 LTS on the server and can not update it so I can't run the newer Samba and I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 on all of the PC's which has 2.6.27-9-generic kernel on it. I would like to make as few changes as possible to get this to work - what do you need me to do? I figure that the nodfs option is for mounting - but where does that happen? What should I change the mount command to? Thanks! Re: [Bug 267371] Re: Damaged OpenOffice files from samba shares
I'm willing to try - but I have a question. I ended up installing OO 3 from OO. Just did an aptitude search and found that I have openoffice.org3 installed. Do I uninstall that then install openoffice.org from the repositories? I'll also have to take out the fstab entries - right? I am having the same problem running OO 2.4.1 to a Samba share version 3.028 running Ubuntu 8.04 from my laptop that's running Ubuntu 8.10.
