[Bug 1879655] [NEW] mate-screenshot saves extra pixels outside of window when grabbing current window

2020-05-20 Thread Michael Olberg
Public bug reported:

The title says it all, when taking a screenshot and asking only for the
current window, I am expecting the resulting image to stop at the window
boundary. In 20.04 I am getting an extra 10 pixels on all sides from the
background screen, see attached example.

[Bug 814163] [NEW] system monitor fails to show network traffic for mobile broadband connections

2011-07-21 Thread Michael Olberg
Public bug reported:

I have enabled the monitoring of network traffic in the system-monitor
applet. This works fine when I am online via a wired or wireless
connection, but shows no traffic whatsoever when I am online using my
T-mobile 3G usb-dongle. It's only a minor issue but I thought it might
be worth reporting.

[Bug 686351] [NEW] right mouse button not working in panel

2010-12-06 Thread Michael Olberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

I am running Ubuntu 11.04 from a USB stick on a Dell Vostro V13. I
notice that right clicking on applets in the upper panel doesn't work.
E.g. I wanted to change the clock from a 12 hour format to a 24 hour

left clicking and brings up the calendar. I cannot enter the property
dialog that I had expected to reach via a right button click.

[Bug 587617] [NEW] R graphics fail to display greek letter pi

2010-05-30 Thread Michael Olberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: r-base

Plots in R fail to display the Greek letter pi correctly, it comes out as an
inequality sign. Other Greek letters appear to behave as expected. The error is
not present in Ubuntu 9.04.
The following little sample R script will show the effect

 cut here -

y - sin(2*pi*x)

[Bug 552398] [NEW] printer configuration dialog hangs

2010-03-31 Thread Michael Olberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: system-config-printer

When trying to add a new network printer, the dialog freezes after about half a
minute of searching. A list of found printers is never displayed. The only way
to exit the program is to kill it.

The same process on a Ubuntu 9.04 system works just fine, displaying about 10
printers to choose from and with no problem to add one of these and printing a
test page. So I think I can rule out a problem with the network.

I had been able to successfully configure a printer with an earlier
alpha build of Ubuntu 10.04. When I tried to add a second printer this
morning a list of printers was displayed but the application crashed
when selecting one of them for addition. The bug-report application told
me that this could not be reported as my system-config-printer wasn't
up to date. After upgrading I now have the problem described above, with
no printers being displayed and the application hanging.

[Bug 537175] [NEW] Xorg crashes and returns to login screen

2010-03-11 Thread Michael Olberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

This is on lucid (10.04) with all packages up-to-date (2010-03-11). Typically a
few minutes into a login session, the screen will just go black and return me
to the login screen. After I login again, I don't experience further crashes!
I have had this problem ever since I started testing lucid and it's still here
in alpha 3. So I thought I better report it ;-).

[Bug 456662] Re: Huawei E620 USB modem no longer works in 9.10

2009-11-11 Thread Michael Olberg
After having upgraded to linux-image-2.6.31-15-generic, the USB-stick
seems to be recognized as a modem (*and* as a storage device). Now,
network manager is offering the mobile broadband Vodafone connection,
which I had configured before the upgrade to 9.10. However, I am unable
to make the connection work. The network manager presents a password
dialog (see attachment), but whatever I fill in (neither password nor
pincode defined for this connection will work) I don't get a network
connection.

[Bug 459103] [NEW] creating audio cd in rhythmbox no longer works

2009-10-23 Thread Michael Olberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Trying to burn an audio CD in rhythmbox from a playlist (this works
flwalessly in jaunty) fails. No error is reported, even if I start
rhythmbox from the command line. The command to burn a CD seems to be
silently ignored.

[Bug 456662] [NEW] Huawei E620 USB modem no longer works in 9.10

2009-10-20 Thread Michael Olberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

My Huawei E620 (sold by Vodafone in NL) works flawlessly in Ubuntu 9.04,
but no longer works in 9.10. The device is apparently no longer
recognized and I am no longer given the option by network manager to
access internet via a broadband connection. Again, this worked like a
charm in Jaunty.

[Bug 332543] Re: echo test not working

2009-04-02 Thread Michael Olberg
I just did an 'apt-get update apt-get upgrade' and now ekiga works for me,
at least as far as the
echo test is concerned. I have pulse-audio configured, in ekiga audio-device
setting is all set to
'Default'. This was with a normal headset, I still need to test my USB-headset
and
then make a proper telephone call.
But looking good so far ...

[Bug 332543] Re: echo test not working

2009-04-01 Thread Michael Olberg
I am using a fresh Jaunty install.
I also tried apt-get --purge remove ekiga followed by apt-get install
ekiga, but it did not help.
I am using a USB headset, too, but it doesn't work, with or without.
I have tried to run with and without pulse-audio, as I suspected this to be the
problem, but no success.

[Bug 332543] Re: echo test not working

2009-03-31 Thread Michael Olberg
Testing the echo service with Ekiga 3.2 in Jaunty is not working for me either.
(Btw. also skype
doesn't work for me in Jaunty). Sound seems to work just fine in other
applications, but when
trying to phone sip:5...@ekiga.net nothing happens, dead silent. Both my ekiga
and diamondcard
accounts appear registered.
It's a show stopper for me for switching from Ubuntu 8.04 where everything is
working fine.
Here is the output I get from ekiga with debugging turned on:

[Bug 280166] [NEW] top -i doesn't show heavy jobs

2008-10-08 Thread Michael Olberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: procps

I noticed this problem when opening a pdf document with evince, which put the
load on cpu 1 to 100%, as seen from the system load applet. I ran 'top' (from
the procps package) on the command line and saw the job there, too, with high
cpu usage.
However, when toggling 'i' to only show me non-idle tasks, the process was not
among the listed ones. This was consistently seen on various attempts, so not
depending on time granularity. In non-idle mode I expect to see that process on
first place in top's listing.

Re: [Bug 223750] Re: Sound very faint in Ubuntu 8l04 Hardy

2008-08-10 Thread Michael Olberg
Hi Brian,

Sound worked fine in the end, if I remember correctly I had just
overlooked a mixer setting. The bug is closed from my point of view.

Unfortunately, I can't provide the info you request. The 8.04
installation was on a experimental partition (my main system is still
on 7.10) and in the mean time I tried to upgrade hardy to intrepid. I
say tried because that system is totally broken right now. But that's
another story ...

cheers,
Michael

[Bug 223750] Re: Sound very faint in Ubuntu 8l04 Hardy

2008-05-02 Thread Michael Olberg
Thanks, I had already played with the master and pcm setting but had overlooked
the front control.
Seems ok now.
I did try to simply restore my old settings from gutsy (its root being mounted
on /mnt) via alsactl, but that didn't work:

 sudo alsactl -f /mnt/var/lib/alsa/asound.state restore
alsactl: set_control:989: warning: name mismatch (Digital Input Source/IEC958
Playback Con Mask) for control #1
alsactl: set_control:991: warning: index mismatch (0/0) for control #1

[Bug 223750] Re: Sound very faint in Ubuntu 8l04 Hardy

2008-04-30 Thread Michael Olberg
I am having the same problem on a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop (running the
same kernel) with a

$ lspci

Controller (rev 02)

Sound works just fine with ubuntu 7.10, so I am glad I did not do an
upgrade, yet, but installed 8.04 on an extra partition.
