[Bug 1866326] [NEW] Login freezes when using Nvidia drivers 435 and 440
Public bug reported: I have a Lenovo P53 which has hybrid graphics (Intel and Nvidia). I have chosen to use "discrete graphics" which means that I am using the Nvidia card. Until a recent update everything was working fine. After the automatic update and the upgrade from kernel 5.3.0-28 to 5.3.0-40 (and possibly an upgrade of the Nvidia drivers) the opearing system hands after I enter the login credentials. I have tried to get some output from the startup screen by removing the "quite splash" from the grub file but it does not give any error information. It just hangs. I am using Nouveau to login to the computer, but with Nouveau I the HDMI port is not working I can try to add more debugging information if one helps me to collect it I am using Ubuntu 18.04.4 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu7.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.3.0-40.32~18.04.1-generic 5.3.18 Uname: Linux 5.3.0-40-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.11 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: Error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/boot.log' CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Fri Mar 6 11:39:29 2020 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: bionic DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GpuHangFrequency: Once a week GpuHangReproducibility: I don't know GpuHangStarted: I don't know GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Device [8086:3e9b] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:2297] NVIDIA Corporation Device [10de:1fb8] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:2297] InstallationDate: Installed on 2020-02-29 (5 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20200203.1) MachineType: LENOVO 20QQS1JE00 ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-5.3.0-40-generic root=/dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-root ro quiet splash nomodeset vt.handoff=1 SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display Title: Xorg freeze UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 11/28/2019 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: N2NET34W (1.19 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 20QQS1JE00 dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: SDK0J40697 WIN dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: None dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvrN2NET34W(1.19):bd11/28/2019:svnLENOVO:pn20QQS1JE00:pvrThinkPadP53:rvnLENOVO:rn20QQS1JE00:rvrSDK0J40697WIN:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNone: dmi.product.family: ThinkPad P53 dmi.product.name: 20QQS1JE00 dmi.product.sku: LENOVO_MT_20QQ_BU_Think_FM_ThinkPad P53 dmi.product.version: ThinkPad P53 dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO version.compiz: compiz N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.99-1ubuntu1~18.04.2 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 19.2.8-0ubuntu0~18.04.3 version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 19.2.8-0ubuntu0~18.04.3 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core N/A version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev N/A version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati N/A version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel N/A version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau N/A ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug bionic freeze ubuntu ** Summary changed: - Login freezes when using Nvidia drives 435 and 440 + Login freezes when using Nvidia drivers 435 and 440 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1866326 Title: Login freezes when using Nvidia drivers 435 and 440 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1866326/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 995401] Re: Ubuntu 12.04: keyboard layout does not change languages
@seb128: I think the bug is the same with the bug you are reffering to. I have tried two configurations so far: 1) Upgrade from Ubuntu 11.10 where I had two keyboard layouts norwegian (no) and greek (gr) and I could add and remove any language. After the upgrade the US layout was added to the two previous ones and was set as default. The layouts could *not* be changed either with a keybord combination or through the option on the top panel. In order to set the norwegian as default I had to remove the us and the no layout and add again the no. 2) I did a clean install with Ubuntu 12.04 and I chose during the installation as default layout the norwegian. Therefore the *only* layout was the norwegian one and it is actually the norwegian one and not the US. However I still have the problem that if I add more layouts through the settings, I cannot select one of the other options either with a keyboard sortcut or though the top panel. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995401 Title: Ubuntu 12.04: keyboard layout does not change languages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-control-center/+bug/995401/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 995401] [NEW] Ubuntu 12.04: keyboard layout does not change languages
Public bug reported: Probably this problem is reported but the ubuntu-bug system cannot trace it. I have upgraded to 12.04 from 11.10 which was a clean install. My keyboard language-settings (in the login screen as well) were norwegian and greek. However when I installed the 12.04 version my keyboard-layout was changed to english but the keyboard layout manager was showing norwegian. On the keyboard-layout settings I put the english(US) layout and I removed greek and norwegian. Typed a bit and then put norwegian and greek and I removed the english (US) again and chose the Alt-Shift combination for changing layouts. What I get is an unchangable english(US) layout. Important note: My keyboard is US-keyboard. I mean the hardware. P.S. The ubuntu-bug system has a serious bug. When I was looking about the bug on Google I could find the launchpad relevant subject. [Bug 782219] [NEW] banshee will not close from close button
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: banshee Hi! Why if you press the close button banshee does not stop playing? Why someone should go to the general sound options on the right of the screen to close the banshee. I closed the banshee and it disappeared from the unity taskbar and it took me a while to find the way to quit the program. Spreading the controls of a program to a gazillion places is a very bad idea. The controls of an application should remain in the application with additional controls wherever else you want. You start the music from applications menu and you have to stop the music from the sound control? Is this intuitive and user-friendly? Close means stop the music and quit the application. it is minimize which means run the music in the background. [Bug 775516] Re: firewall blocks services like https and ipp protocol while rules have been defined
The problem is possibly created when you rename your network connection using the popup menu of the icon in the top right. [Bug 776518] [NEW] Firewall UFW cups port631
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gufw When you add the cups exception rule the using the predefined service in gufw the rule 631/TCP allow EVERYWHERE is added. I believe that the correct thing would be 631 allow everywhere which means it can allow both TCP and UDP protocols. This is needed because in many cases printers broadcast UDP messages to inform the computers on the network that they exist. I am not sure about this, but I have come up to this conclusion watching the listening ports of my computer and capturing packages with wireshark. [Bug 775516] Re: firewall blocks services like https and ipp protocol while rules have been defined
Hi! I am using ufw and gufw to configure my firewall. So I have the incoming in deny status and outgoing in allow with the following rules applied: To Action From -- -- 21/tcp ALLOW Anywhere 80/tcp ALLOW Anywhere 135,139,445/tcp ALLOW Anywhere 137,138/udp ALLOW Anywhere 25/tcp ALLOW Anywhere 22 ALLOW Anywhere 5900/tcp ALLOW Anywhere 631/tcp ALLOW Anywhere 68/udp ALLOW Anywhere My main problems are that when firewall is on, https is not responding for some pages and network printers cannot be accessed either. Both problems did not exist in 10.04 and 10.10. When I shutdown the firewall there is no problem at all. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/775516 Title: firewall blocks services like https and ipp protocol while rules have been defined -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
