It has since become apparent that I misinterpreted this bug as relating to VirtualBox with Win7 guest (as the apparent common factor) when it now appears that the cause related to the presence of a memory card in the card reader. Public bug reported: Notebook locks up when trying to suspend. Seems only to occur when there is a VirtualBox Windows 7 Enterprise x64 guest, suspend/resume is otherwise fine, even when running Windows XP guest.
