[Bug 2041094] Re: application doesn't show its proper icon and name under the dock
I'm running 24.04.01 and several applications have this bug: PrusaSlicer, Slickedit, and Gitk. I didn't have this problem with Ubuntu 22. I read somewhere that this is related to Snap. I have purged Snap from my installation because Snap sucks. It makes no sense that desktop icons depend on the existing of a package manager. I also tried the StartupWMClass trick, but that didn't work either. Screenshot attached. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot from 2024-10-15 16-57-09.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/transmission/+bug/2041094/+attachment/5828432/+files/Screenshot%20from%202024-10-15%2016-57-09.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2041094 Title: application doesn't show its proper icon and name under the dock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/transmission/+bug/2041094/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2084064] [NEW] Some windows cannot be resized in X11 on Ubuntu 24.04
Public bug reported: Some windows in Ubuntu 24 cannot be resized, and the corners show minor corruption. The "Slack" application is a good example. See attached screenshot. Thunderbird also has this problem. I upgraded to Ubuntu 24 from 22. The upgrade was difficult, and I had to perform several steps to correct it. Despite the fact that I have nvidia-driver-560-open installed, it appears that my desktop is using X11 instead of Wayland. I don't know how to switch to Wayland, there is on prompt for it on the login screen. Some applications have lost the ability to be resized. Moving the mouse pointer over the edges/counters does not give me the option to resize. These applications also have a weird display bug. When the top corners are placed over the titlebar of another application, the corners are no longer rounded. However, some of those declined meetings still appear in my Evolution calendar, and nothing I do will get rid of them. The invitation email is in the trash. If I open the email, I am given the option to decline the meeting (again), but declining it does nothing. If I right-click on the meeting in the calendar, I am able to open the meeting panel, but the status says "Confirmed", which is false. I can change that to "Cancel", but saving the changes also does nothing. I am not able to close that panel unless I chose to discard all changes. I can also try deleting meeting, but again, that does nothing. I get an error message that says, "Failed to delete an event in the calendar “tt...@nvidia.com : Nvidia” Cannot remove calendar object: The specified object was not found in the store., The process failed to get the correct properties." I don't know how to further debug this, nor do I know why some meetings on my calendar behave this way. I suspect that somehow Evolution receives and automatically processes the invitation before I have a chance to manually decline it. --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.13 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CurrentDesktop: KDE DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 InstallationDate: Installed on 2020-05-29 (192 days ago) InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 20.04 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20200423) Package: evolution-ews 3.36.4-0ubuntu1 PackageArchitecture: amd64 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-53.59-generic 5.4.65 Tags: focal Uname: Linux 5.4.0-53-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dialout dip lpadmin lxd plugdev sambashare sudo _MarkForUpload: True ** Affects: evolution-ews (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-collected focal ** Tags added: apport-collected focal ** Description changed: I frequently revieve, via a mailing list, calendar invitations to recurring meetings. So I'm confused. You say it's an upstream Gnome issue. The desktop- icons developer says it's a Nautilus issue, since Nautilus handles folders. [Bug 1875204] Re: .desktop files inside folders on the Desktop cannot be launched
If you're curious, here's the contents of gedit.desktop: [Desktop Entry] Type=Application Terminal=false Name=GEDIT Exec=/usr/bin/gedit Note that when gedit.desktop is located in ~/Desktop, the icon just says "GEDIT" (which is what the "Name" field says above). However, when it's located in ~/Desktop/TEST, it's treated like a normal file and is labeled "gedit.desktop". I just don't understand how Ubuntu could be missing basic GUI features that literally every other operating system has had for decades. What is so controversial about putting desktop icons in folders? There so many things that I can't do with the Desktop: 1) I can't drag/drop files from the desktop to/from other folders. Did you notice that I had use the Copy and Paste context menus to copy the file to the TEST folder? 2) I can't drag/drop files to applications in the launcher. 3) I can't drag/drop files from the Desktop to any open application. The root cause for all these problems is that the Desktop is not treated like any other Nautilus folder. It's its own special, dysfunctional thing. This is in contrast to every other GUI out there. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1875204 Title: .desktop files inside folders on the Desktop cannot be launched To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1875204/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1026869] Re: Firefox accepts dictionaries and spell check entries from every which spell check backend, leaving problems with defaults and the language selector enables this behavior
I have installed the en-us language pack in Firefox, and I've tried many of the "fixes" I found on the Internet, but this problem remains for me. For instance, "honor" is flagged but "honour" is not flagged. The "English (US) Language Pack" add-on is installed. One interesting observation: when I go under Preferences->Language, I see that en-us is selected as the default. When I click on Set Alternatives, but the drop-down also shows en-gb and en-ca. I can click on Canada and UK and remove them, and they show as removed. However, after I restart, those two languages come back. So there appears to be no way to actually remove those languages. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1026869 Title: Firefox accepts dictionaries and spell check entries from every which spell check backend, leaving problems with defaults and the language selector enables this behavior To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/1026869/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1855164] [NEW] update-initramfs does not work on first partition of dual-boot systems
Public bug reported: I installed two copies of Ubuntu 19.04 on one hard drive. The installation itself worked fine, and I'm able to switch between the two copies of Ubuntu via grub. The update-initramfs utility does not work when I run it on X. It works fine on Y. This means that I cannot install a custom kernel on X. I can build a custom kernel and install it via "dpkg -i", but update- initramfs will not update the grub config files, and so my new kernel will not appear in the grub menu, even though the files are in /boot. Re: [Bug 1677297] RE: Zesty use qcom_emac instead of msm_emac.
Sorry, I'm not sure what happened there. I meant to say that that is the *actual* PHY on the SDP board. It's an Atheros 8031 PHY. I was hoping that we could get away with the genphy driver that's built-in, but apparently not. Ubuntu should be building every PHY driver anyway. I don't know if there's a way to automatically load only the PHY drivers that are on the board. However, none of this is Centriq- or even ARM-specific. This is standard procedure for most Ethernet drivers on any platform. On 3/29/17, 10:22 PM, "boun...@canonical.com on behalf of Timur Tabi" wrote: >It's not unrelated.
