[Bug 59609] Re: Best font rendering suggestion

This patch is really great...
I'm using for months, I do think that the "nonfree package way" it's the better
choice to have this great feature without risking...

[Bug 84999] Missing default gutenprint.xml - printconf error

2007-02-13 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

I was running printconfig to config my printer and I got this:

Configuring Epson Stylus C42 on usb:/dev/usblp0 with gutenprint driver as queue
"stylus_c42".
Cannot read file /usr/share/foomatic/db/source/driver/gutenprint.xml!
Driver file /usr/share/foomatic/db/source/driver/gutenprint.xml corrupted,
missing, or not readable!
Could not run "foomatic-combo-xml"/"foomatic-perl-data"! at
/usr/share/perl5/Foomatic/DB.pm line 571

The workaround I've found is linking a fake gutenprint.xml to
gutenprint-ijs.5.0.xml btw I think that this error should be fixed both
here and/or in printconfig...

[Bug 90169] SecondLife, GL.O.B.S. and other GL apps have a Black Window - Patch available

2007-03-06 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgl1-mesa-dri

Upgrading to Mesa 6.5.2 on radeon driver some apps (like Globs and
Second Life client) shows a black window (screen) without showing its
content (that seem to run well, also if it isn't visible); some of them
(SecondLife) could be seen anyway after a window resize as a workaround.

Anyway Michel Dänzer pushed a patch to fix this; All is referenced and
solved here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9876

[Bug 87665] Re: Beryl + Java Swing does not draw

Another way to patch is following what is written on beryl wiki...

Forcing beryl to show itself as Compiz (editing its code) is another working
workaround...
Just edit the file running this on main beryl-core dir:
perl -i -p -e 's/#define MYNAME "beryl"/#define MYNAME "compiz"/'

[Bug 87665] Re: Beryl + Java Swing does not draw

2007-03-31 Thread Treviño
Mh, ok... So what about packaging for Ubuntu a sun Java JDK/JRE version
above 1.6.0_01-ea-b01 wich has these fixes just for compiz:
http://download.java.net/jdk6/6u1/promoted/b01/changes/jdk6u1-b01.html;
then you simply have to apply the patch I posted to beryl and all will
be fixed...

So my proposed todo list is:
 - Package newer Java (better whould be 1.6.0_02-ea-b01 released few days ago
and with many gtk-swing fixes: http://tinyurl.com/2kc7de
- Patch beryl (compiz is not needed) to make itself show as compiz as I posted
above (just one line to edit).

All this is safe, I'm doing that on my laptop for months and it's all
working!

PS: those newer versions of java are btw available using my make-jpkg-
mustang tool (look at ubuntuforums)

/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-sun/jre/bin I move the "java" binary file to "java-bin"
while I've put a "fake" java file containing a bash script that applies some
default settings to java itself (launching java-bin).
I've tested my solution and works in all situations I found and also I didn't
receive any problem/bad-report about the sun's java *.deb files generated using
my script (and they included this mentioned "java" script file).

I think that this could be considered a "solution" (or good
"workaround", if you prefer) for this and other problems... I'll post
this script here soon.

[Bug 99435] A "java" loader script to apply some extra settings

2007-03-31 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sun-java6-bin

This isn't really a bug report, just a place where I can post a script I made
to fix some issues with java applications, the most important things imho are:
 - It detects beryl or compiz running and if needed it applies the AWT_TOOLKIT
workaround
 - Set the default java style to GTK+ native (java6 supports it, so it should
be used!)
 - Read font aliasing KDE settings, and applies to the java apps

The latest two features I think that are much needed by KDE (kubuntu)
users (like me) that now can have their java apps look like the rest of
the desktop (thanks also to gtk-qt engine) with cool fonts.

This will be surely rejected, but I decided to post it here just to
notify people that there's a way to fix some problems with java with few
lines of bash...

Script file in next comment ;)

[Bug 99435] Re: A "java" loader script to apply some extra settings

2007-03-31 Thread Treviño
"java" Script attached.

To use it you simply should do:
 $ sudo mv /usr/lib/jvm//jre/bin/java
/usr/lib/jvm//jre/bin/java-bin
 $ sudo mv java /usr/lib/jvm//jre/bin/java
 $ chmod +x /usr/lib/jvm//jre/bin/java

Now all will work like before but with optimized settings... Use "java
-version" to check it ^_^

[Bug 105345] restricted-manager installs nVidia and ATi drivers with the wrong resolution on wide screens

If they install their drivers using restricted-manager, then they'll have a
wrong resolution (1024x768 on most cases) to fix this there are two different
ways:

 - nVidia users: sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

[Bug 111394] kmilo doesn't work at all in my laptop

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdeutils

Bug reporting is quite simple also if incomplete, because I can't debug
it, however my laptop (an Acer Travelmate) multimedia keys to change
volume have been well recognized by xmodmap rule installed by Ubuntu (in
fact pressing these keys I got the right XF86 volume-related codes), but
when I press them there's no OSD and no volume change...

All works using gnome instead (or also loading gnome-settings-daemon on
a kde-session... :P Ehm, I know it's not a good thing :) )

All I can say is that kmilo is loaded by default and that I can't get
any other log about it...

[Bug 66873] Re: Flash 9 beta

2006-10-19 Thread Treviño
I've made some flash 9 packages... One for plugin, the other for
player...

Here you are:

Absolutely needed that...

Anyway I've noticed that running another kdesu istance if you write any
password (or just leave the password field blank) and you click on on "Ok", the
kdesu works good...
So... It should pratically check if it can run, before of asking a password

Applying the attached patch to the Ubuntu Sources fixes the bug for all
the apps I tested.

Please, add this to the ubuntu package, I've attached also a patch file
showing diff to integrate this into the ubuntu mesa sources.

[Bug 87665] Re: Beryl + Java Swing does not draw

2007-03-31 Thread Treviño
Mh, ok... So what about packaging for Ubuntu a sun Java JDK/JRE version
above 1.6.0_01-ea-b01 wich has these fixes just for compiz:
http://download.java.net/jdk6/6u1/promoted/b01/changes/jdk6u1-b01.html;
then you simply have to apply the patch I posted to beryl and all will

2007-03-31 Thread Treviño
No way to contact sun to get that? :/

Otherwise I think you should add something to feisty to make it add
AWT_Toolkit=MToolkit somewhere...

A way I use in my script is a good workaround I think... Pratically in
/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-sun/jre/bin I move the "java" binary file to "java-bin"
while I've put a "fake" java file containing a bash script that applies some
default settings to java itself (launching java-bin).

"java" Script attached.

To use it you simply should do:
 $ sudo mv /usr/lib/jvm//jre/bin/java
/usr/lib/jvm//jre/bin/java-bin
 $ sudo mv java /usr/lib/jvm//jre/bin/java
 $ chmod +x /usr/lib/jvm//jre/bin/java

Now all will work like before but with optimized settings... Use "java
-version" to check it ^_^

Actually the package version is 1.4.8-1 instead of (I think)
1.4.8-1ubuntu1, isn't it?

[Bug 86753] Xorg Freezes on VT Switching in an AiGLX session

2007-02-21 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-core

On VT switching (ctrl+alt+f1 and back to tty7) freezes Xorg if you're on
an AiGLX session (using beryl or compiz), this is a great problem not
only for usability but also because it makes impossible resuming after
hibernation.
