[Bug 1613027] Re: Network scanner not detected by xsane after kernel upgrade

2017-02-21 Thread Zippo
I experienced the same problem, with ubuntu 14.04 last year in November.
My scanner was no longer detected by xsane (and other scan apps.)
The model is 'Canon MX870' multi-function and is connected via LAN with a fix
ip-adress to the network. After some weeks the problem disappeared by system
updates!

Since I installed ubuntu 16.04 I have the same problem again.
My scanner is not detected by xsane and other scan applications!
It looks like an still unresolved issue.

[Bug 1447719] [NEW] system deadlock after hiberbate wake up

2015-04-23 Thread Zippo
Public bug reported:

above behavior is 100% reproducible since new installation of Ubuntu 14.04 (no
upgrade from 12.04).
After hibernate wake up the screen displayed looks like a distorted chess game
with black and white areas no coloured areas visible.
Trying to open a console does not work! Mouse and keyboard actions show no
response. Only the power off switch is still working!
In 12.04 I had no such problems with the same hardware.

[Bug 1068661] Re: 1002:6740 Unity does not load after installing fglrx-installer Radeon HD 6700M Series

2012-10-24 Thread Zippo
On a just-installed Ubuntu 12.10 I installed linux-headers-generic,
fgrlx-updates and fgrlx-amdcccle-updates then restarted and the driver
(including Catalyst Control Center) have been installed successfully.

fglrxinfo is reporting:

display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Radeon HD 5570
OpenGL version string: 4.2.11903 Compatibility Profile Context

Few hours before, on a previous installation of Ubuntu 12.10, I failed
to install the driver probably since I played with Additional Drivers in
Software Sources too much, before I tried anything else.

[Bug 646724] Re: not all files show up in files-place

2012-02-21 Thread Raffaele Zippo
Excuse me for not reading all the discussion up there..

From the first time i used the dash, i found it extremely handy and
useful; but for what are my necessities zeigeist's way to search files
is not suited for me, so that i'm only using tracker.

So I ask: can you integrate tracker, obviously as an option and not as
default, with the dash search lens?

[Bug 839319] Re: Support for Rhythmbox and other players

2012-02-15 Thread Raffaele Zippo
Since they perfectly work, the lens proposed by Teester could be simply
put in the official repositories and each lens raccomended in the proper
pleayer download page in software-center. So the bug could be considered
fixed.

NOTE: I've already seen Rhythmbox's lens in software-center, but I
didn't test if that came from the ppa or not.

2011-07-07 Thread Zippo
Hi Brian,

in the mean time I had a lot of trouble also with other applications on
this PC.
So I had a close look to the hardware and performed memory tests.
These tests showed, at hot days I get reproducible memory errors.
At colder days I have no memory errors at all.
The PC has a temperature problem and not an application problem.

Best regards
Zippo

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

seems that a package failed to install due to a segmentation fault in

Unfortunately, this bug report isn't very useful in its current state
and a crash report would be much more useful. Could you try recreating
this issue by enabling apport to catch the crash report 'sudo service
apport start force_start=1' and then trying to install the same package
again? This process will create a new bug report so I am marking this
one as Invalid. Thanks again for helping out!

When this bug (orphaned inodes) will be fixed for the /-partition, will it also

[Bug 156788] [gutsy]Using Network manager causes packet losses with wired ethernet

2007-10-24 Thread Zippo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager-gnome

I recently installed Gutsy on my desktop that was earlier running on Feisty.
It is an AMD64 Machine with an Nvidia Chipset

It ran flawlessly under Feisty.

Soon after the fresh install I began to notice that i was getting timed out
from ssh
connections on my local network on a random basis.
Then i checked by pinging various hosts and found that there was packet loss on
every
host i pinged (upto 70%.same packet loss if i pinged multiple hostseach
of them had the same packet loss)).

I figured that some network device on my network was misbehaving and decided to
replicate this on my notebook(feisty) after powering down the desktop .
Notebook was working fine.

It was then apparent that the fault lay in the desktop( somewhere).
I tried to make a new profile in the network manager but the drop-down box
would not drop down
and so I could not make a new profile.
I then installed Wicd (http://wicd.sourceforge.net/).

This removed network manager completely.

After installing Wicd and setting up the IP's.everything worked perfectly.
So I am assuming that something in the Network manager was causing the network
card to reset every now and then.
or it was switching the profile on and off.
Thanks!

[Bug 68726] Re: Upgrade from Breezy to Dapper aborted

2006-11-01 Thread Zippo
I don't know where the attachments were lost.
Anyhow I did some more investigations on the problem myself.

Result: The package 'msttcorefonts' caused the upgrade abort. This
package seems to work only in Breezy but not in Dapper.

Re: [Bug 68726] Re: Upgrade from Breezy to Dapper aborted

2006-10-29 Thread Zippo

I started the upgrade to Dapper from the gnome update menu.
Then about 570 Mb files where downlaoded.
Along the installation procedure the mentioned error message was displayed.
The return value for the installation procedure was displayed = 1.
There was no other informations.

I am in the comfortable position to have a bare test machine without any
OS and user data.
On the test machine I installed Breezy without any additional packets
(like Mozilla Browser Thunderbird, codex for videos installed by
Automatix and other packages etc.) Now on the test machine the upgrade
from Breezy to Dapper was succsessful.

My Conclusion: It looks like one or more of the additional installed
packets on my working machine caused the upgrade abort.

Have you some idea how to work around this problem?

Best Regards
Peter
