[Bug 1802382] Re: [860399.181468] watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#4 stuck for 23s! [kworker/4:2:9700]
Unfortunately, this bug is not reproducible, I don't know how to induce it. And it happens occasionally. It happened one more time after initial bug report. So, twice in 10 days or so. I am willing to test the upstream kernel but I don't know how long would I need to wait for bug to re-appear. And, it will be very hard for me distinguish if the absence of the bug is due to: * bug fix, OR * bug waiting long to re-appear As far as I remember, there was no system upgrade before the event. Again, I'm not so certain about it because it might have been introduced by an earlier update/upgrade and waited long to appear. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1802382 Title: [860399.181468] watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#4 stuck for 23s! [Bug 1747566] Re: syslog fills with messages: Object ..., has been already finalized. Impossible to get any property from it. ... (stack trace in tweener.js)
I had this "large log file" issue with gnome-shell for a long time (1-2 years). Only drawback was, I was not being able to send crash reports to launchpad after gnome-shell crashes (which are more frequent than expected) But recently, after apt update; apt upgrade, couple months ago, gnome- shell became very unstable. Right now, after each screen lock or resume it restarts and occasionally Xorg crashes right after putting in the password. I file a bug about this instability (https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1797141). Long story short, I have gnome-shell version 3.28.3-0ubuntu0.18.04.2 and still has the large log file problem. [Bug 1797141] [NEW] gnome-shell frequent restart or crash after unlocking screen or resume from sleep
Public bug reported: First, let me provide necessary information about system or packages System: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Package version: gnome-shell 3.28.3-0ubuntu0.18.04.2 The problem started 3-4 weeks ago (probably after updating several packages via `apt update; apt upgrade` After *almost all* screen unlock or resume from sleep events, this is what happens: * I briefly see the desktop screen (which is security or privacy problem I guess) * then login screen comes up, asking for the password * after I put the password there is a wait (5-10 seconds) * after that there are two possibilities: 1. there's brief flash in screen and then screen goes black. i can not fire up tty consoles and i have to use SysRq Magic keys to reboot the system 2. if it does not crash, I login the system, I see the programs/windows but they're unresponsive for 10-30 seconds. after unresponsive time, gnome-shell restarts and only then system starts to function normally. Then apport-bug is started for gnome-shell, I try to send the crash reports. I'm not sure this is gnome-shell or gdm3 or Xorg problem. But, apport- crash always starts collecting data about gnome-shell, thus I filed report against gnome-shell. I also filed bug report against xorg (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1797124). Let me provide additional info that might help; - I have nvidia drivers installed in system - gnome-shell produces tons of journal entries (this apport-crash reports are huge, nearly 150 MB and I cannot upload them) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: gnome-shell 3.28.3-0ubuntu0.18.04.2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-36.39-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-36-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.4 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: GNOME Date: Wed Oct 10 17:10:40 2018 DisplayManager: gdm3 InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-06-01 (131 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20180426) SourcePackage: gnome-shell UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 annoyance apport-bug bionic gnome-shell rant -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1797141 Title: gnome-shell frequent restart or crash after unlocking screen or resume from sleep To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1797141/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1797124] [NEW] Xorg crashes
Public bug reported: Frequent crashes when I; * unlock the screen * resume from suspend Usually, I see the login page, I put my password and then it's 50:50 chance that it will crash. I had to reboot in that case (I use SysRq Magic+R,E,I,S,U,B) If it does not crash, then I can login to system, I can see the desktop but it stays unresponsive for 10-30 seconds and then gnome-shell restarts, and then I can start using the windows/programs. [Bug 1277528] Re: [Asus N550JV] Bluetooth not working initially
Hi Christopher, I am very sorry, I thought I upgraded to the latest BIOS. But it looks like I upgraded to previous version. I upgraded the BIOS to version 208 after your message, and the terminal code shows this: $ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date N550JV.208 11/19/2013 After that I booted to live USB 10 times. Here's the summary: 1. and 2. trials, adapter was not recognized ("hcitool dev" was empty) and there was NO soft block. No matter what I tried bluetooth didn't work. 3. trial, Adapter was not recognized initially and there was soft block. After unblocking adapter was recognized and then bluetooth worked 4 thru 10. trials: Adapter was recognized ("hcitool dev" gave an ID) and there was NO soft block, bluetooth worked without any workarounds/tweaks. If you find these tests inconclusive I can do much more tests. Thanks for your time and help. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1277528 Title: [Asus N550JV] Bluetooth not working initially To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1277528/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 1277528] Re: Follow up on bug 1260825
Hi Christopher, I did reboot to live USB couple times and I cannot confirm that bluetooth was "soft blocked each time". Two times, it was soft blocked and after unblocking it, everything worked fine. But two times, it was -not- blocked, however I was not able to make bluetooth work no matter what I tried. So, if it's soft blocked, it works after unblocking.. But, if it's unblocked initially, it does not work (maybe it does not recognize the device or adapter, and that's why it's not blocked).. I hope my information helps. If there are more tests or debugging you want me to do, I'll be more than happy to contribute. Thanks, alper On Fri, Feb 14, 2014 at 8:19 AM, Christopher M. [Bug 1277528] [NEW] Follow up on bug 1260825
Public bug reported: This test was requested by developers as a followup to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1260825 The bug was filed by fuujuhi and the user did the upstream kernel test The latest development release test was remaining. I ran Ubuntu Daily build as live USB. And tested the bluetooth problem. Initially bluetooth didn't work. When I ran "rfkill list" I noticed that bluetooth was soft blocked. Then I ran the command "sudo rfkill unblock bluetooth" and everything worked fine. I was able to pair a bluetooth mouse and the connection was persistent (not sporadic). I even tried this; I paired a tablet and streamed audio from tablet to my laptop. So, this bug is fixed in development release of Ubuntu. $ uname -a Linux ubuntu 3.13.0-7-generic #25-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 4 10:19:12 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux $ cat /proc/version_signature Ubuntu 3.13.0-7.25-generic 3.13.1 $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch) Release:14.04 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: linux-image-3.13.0-7-generic 3.13.0-7.25 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-7.25-generic 3.13.1 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-7-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.13.2-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: ubuntu 2609 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: ubuntu 2609 F pulseaudio CasperVersion: 1.337 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Fri Feb 7 16:12:13 2014 LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Alpha amd64 (20140205) MachineType: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. [Bug 1260825] Re: 168c:0032 ath3k built-in bluetooth cannot load firmware - sporadic
I had the same problem with same model laptop, and I wanted to upload more data so that developers pinpoint the problem. I ran: apport-collect -p linux 1260825 and it attached so many files. I hope there's no sensitive information :( Sorry if they are too many files. Looks like fuujuhi did the upstream kernel testing, but latest development release testing still remains. I would like to contribute by doing latest development release testing. If I boot with development version via live-USB, would that suffice? Do I need to install the development version? I'm suffering from same problem. The card I have is Mobility Radeon HD 4650, model of laptop is HP Pavilion dv7 2180us System status: fglrx is loaded and compiz is being used. Latest xorg drivers are installed from PPA. Latest ATI driver is installed from ATI website (along with Catalyst Center) Problems are: 1. frequent freeze of the system. i have to hard-reboot each time, even magic syssrq key combination does not work. I keep my fingers crossed so that freeze does not happen in the middle of something important. 2. suspend: machine can go to sleep but cannot awake, black screen of death (BSOD) 3. hibernate works fine (can awake successfully) but that affects video4linux driver and webcam becomes not accessible. -- ATI Radeon HD 3670 Proprietary FGLRX Drivers break Suspend, Hibernate and major performance issues. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363533 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 318809] [NEW] frequent segmentation faults - segfault - gedit, nautilus, python
Public bug reported: $lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1 Release: 8.04 Package information: I don't know which package exactly but I'm suspecting it's python related. My observation: When I have a text file open in gedit, after a while, when I was working on other things, I notice that gedit crashed. No error messages is given and it's "random", meaning that it does not happen when I actually do something - open, save, close, etc - with gedit. Similar pattern is observed with pidgin as well. But, gedit crashes were way more frequent than that of pidgin. Then I noticed in log files "segfault" lines indicating the crashes of gedit, pidgin and others. I'm suspecting it's python related since those softwares utilize python. Below is the list of all other software that had segfault entry in log. The number indicates the number of "segfault" occurence per software. $ zcat /var/log/*.gz | grep -i "segfault" | perl -n -e '/\] (.*)\[/; print $1;print "\n";' | sort | uniq -c | sort -nr 96 gedit 14 nautilus 13 lat_mem_rd 7 pidgin 6 python 2 VirtualBox 2 metacity Do you aggree this is python problem? ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- frequent segmentation faults - segfault - gedit, nautilus, python https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/318809 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 198087] Re: openssh connections not responsive
Hi, I tried ssh to localhost and it is not slow. Btw, I upgraded to 8.04 and experiencing slow login problem only when I ssh into my home server which is a very old PC (Intel Celeron 667MHz). So, unresponsiveness (is this a valied english word?) of my home server might be explained by old hardware. I experience slow login and slow communication problems rarely with other servers. So, this bug is not as bad as before (at least for me). alper On Sat, Nov 29, 2008 at 10:57 PM, Daniel T Chen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>wrote: > Any word regarding the test case that Dustin K proposed? > > ** Changed in: openssh (Ubuntu) > Status: New => Incomplete > > -- > openssh connections not responsive > https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/198087 > You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber > of the bug. > > Status in "openssh" source package in Ubuntu: Incomplete > > Bug description: > There are reported bugs about ssh connection being slow and users were > complaining about slow LOGIN. [Bug 221316] Re: [hardy] blank screen on 855GM when playing video using intel driver
I have Inspiron 700m and I didn't have any problems earlier (when xserver-xorg-video-intel had problems as discussed above). But, suddenly (in last two weeks) I started to experience the problem of "black screen of death" when I play videos. I'm using Hardy, as far as I heard Ibex installation removes those problems but my question is why am I experiencing this problem after package is updated? Here are some information: The evidence 1 shows the xserver-intel package was updated on 10-31-08 which is when the problems started to occur. Evidence 2 is the Xorg.conf file attachement. The only customization I remember is adding virtual screen size to allow extended desktop in dual monitor setup via grandr/xrandr. Is there any line in my Xorg.conf which contradicts the new version of xserver-xorg-video-intel? [Bug 240988] Re: sbackup uses old ssh key value
This is not a bug in sbackup. The problem was that sbackup runs as root and /root/.ssh/known_hosts file contains old key values. So, the problem is solved when /root/.ssh/known_hosts file is updated. ** Changed in: sbackup (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- sbackup uses old ssh key value https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/240988 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 240988] [NEW] sbackup uses old ssh key value
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: sbackup I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 and version of sbackup is 0.10.4. The openssh packge in destination server updated recently which also assigned a new key to the server. I removed the the old key from /etc/known_hosts file (in the machine that is accessing the destination server) so that I can ssh to the destination server. However, SBACKUP is still using the old ssh key value and decides that the destination folder (ssh:/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/home/user/backup) is not writable (I guess due to failed login). I deleted all the values in gnome-keyring as well and it didn't help. If I try "[EMAIL PROTECTED]/home/different_user/backup" it works fine. Other softwares (such as: gvfs-sftp) have no problem accessing the [EMAIL PROTECTED] (the server with updated ssh key), only sbackup is not able to access to that server. ** Affects: sbackup (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- sbackup uses old ssh key value https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/240988 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 198087] Re: openssh connections not responsive
Hi James, There's no packet loss during Ping from my machine. The reason I reported this issue under SSH is that both SSH and SCP had slow connection problems and I thought they use same protocol. Even though I don't have network problems, except SSH and SCP, I started to believe it might be a network problem (hardware, configuration, etc). Plus, I didn't see other people reporting a similar problem. So, I would like to withdraw my case unless someone else wants to investigate further. alper -- openssh connections not responsive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/198087 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 198087] Re: openssh connections not responsive
The internet connection is fast but I don't how fast the connection between computers. Can I use Ping output to judge connection speed between specific machines? The firewall; in one case (at work) there's no firewall issue. In another case (home) there's firewall but proper port-forwarding is done. Here are the numbers regarding ping response time and scp download speed: Work:(my computer and machine1 are in same room) Machine1 (Ubuntu 7.10, 64-bit)--> remote server scp : 750 KB/s ping : 0.60ms (I believe Ping is configured different, ttl number was different than mine) My machine (Ubuntu 7.10) --> same remote server scp : 65 KB/s ping : 60 ms Home: HomeServer (Ubuntu Server 7.10) --> same remote server scp: 750 KB/s ping: 50 ms So, both at work and at home, my computer is very slow in connections over scp/ssh.. If there are other tests for me to run, I can if you will. -- openssh connections not responsive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/198087 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 198087] Re: openssh connections not responsive
A related problem I'm experiencing is that when I use scp to copy files to/from remote hosts, the dowload/upload rates are low and process takes long time. -- openssh connections not responsive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/198087 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 198087] [NEW] openssh connections not responsive
Public bug reported: There are reported bugs about ssh connection being slow and users were complaining about slow LOGIN. The problem I'm reporting is not duplicate of slow LOGIN. I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 - I'm not reporting a source package name since I'm not sure the source of the problem. When I login with ssh [EMAIL PROTECTED] to a remote host. I experience slow login time AND, IN ADDITION the responsiveness in terminal is horrible. When I type a character I need to wait 2-3 seconds to see it in terminal. This observation is valid when I connect to a Ubuntu Server machine or a server with Red Hat installation. So, I'm guessing it's problem in my system. Anybody noticed this problem? ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- openssh connections not responsive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/198087 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
