when starting the democracyplaer it crashes with segmentation fault.
Starting it on a shell it reports:

Sorry. I'm a newbie. I just installed Ubuntu 8.04 on my M200. My Toshiba
M200 is in a docking station with external monitor connected on the
docking station's VGA.

After Ubuntu suggested the use of the nvidia driver, I enabled it. After
doing so and rebooting my screen was gone and only visible on the
(closed) laptop.

As a workaround I disabled the nvidia driver thus going back to use the
standard ubuntu (free) Xorg driver.

This works but doesn't allow for 3D/ 2D desktop effects and probably
hinders some Math programs, don't know yet. I hope my comment is ok.
Just wanted to let you know, there is more than one user with this
issue.

Crashed after clicking a javascript.print() button, which subsequently
opened the print dialog.

The print dialog itself however didn't come up right (empty window) and
the windows of firefox where unresponsive from that second on.

[Bug 25896] Re: After hibernate, sound doesn't work

Have the same problem. No sound after waking up from hibernation
(booting up Ubuntu). Attached uname, lspci -vv, lspci -vvn and
dmidecode.

Loging out and Login in solves the problem. Sound is back on. Didn't try
restarting via rc Scripts as this can brake Gnome mixer someone
mentioned above. If this is all wrong, sorry, I'm new to Ubuntu.

System is a Toshiba M200 with 1400x1050 resolution and NVidia GeForce
Go5200 32M/64M. The font on the login screen is much too big for the
small box. Tried the gdm.conf change to -dpi 96.

[Bug 269738] [NEW] user switcher error when trying to fast user switch

I have two users and want to switch between them using the fast user
switch option. On the first try to do so, the screen blinks once and
then comes back, no user switched with the error message seen in the
screenshot.

However, when trying a 2nd time, it works!

I'm on a Toshiba Portege M200 Laptop with nVidia Corporation NV34M
[GeForce FX Go5200 32M/64M] no extra proprietary drivers installed as
none of them work - tried 71, 96, 173 but deinstalled them immediately
because of big problems (no X, extremely slow etc.). I have no idea
which Xorg display driver is in use, sorry, might be VESA or Xorg's nv
flavour.

The X servers log in /var/log/Xorg.0.log does not show anything despite
the startup entries. Same for dmesg output. I don't know where else to
look.

The same problem here with a Toshiba Portege M200. Only when the system
is rebooted!

A power cycle solved the issue and both - Ubuntu or Vista - start
without problems.

Still on 2.6.24 kernel. Will try the new kernel asap and report if that
ipw2100: failed to start occurs again.

Also on Intrepid with a Toshiba Portege M200. I'm using an external
mouse but when using the trackpad it's extremely slow,  a complete
finger move from one side to the other is not even one inch on the
screen. I thought there's preferences for each, trackpad and mouse, but
there's only one preferences setting. How to tell the system that those
two devices have, most probably, different dpi settings? xorg.conf?
Sorry, I'm a newby from Mac and Amiga and have no clue, or at least not
much.

Am on Intrepid Ibex with Evolution 2.23.91 and had the "Summary and
folder mismatch even after a sync" error when trying to empty the
(Evolution-) Trash for one of my POP3 accounts (at Yahoo).

After the upgrade to Intrepid Evolution migrated to a new sqlite and
crashed right after that. However, it worked ok since then. Now I have
two E-Mails in my Trash that I can't remove, ok, no big deal, just a
minor annoyance. But can it become bigger?

Am having this problem still in Linux Mint 15 with Cinnamon. Most of the
above links from 2009ff do not work anymore. Someone still has the perl
or python script to attach to this bug report, so user can fix this
issue themselves?

My Webservice Provider offers only a very flaky connection. If the
connection is lost during copy operation the copy dialog stays were it
is. If I press the "Stop" sign the sign itself will change to ghosted
but nothing else happens, i.e. the copy dialog still stays on the screen
without anything happening. Reconnecting to the server does not help. I
need to log out and log in again to get a clear desktop.

Thanks guys. I'm new to programming. Had to use Eclipse in School on
Windows, so I thought let's use it on Ubuntu. What a shock it was so bad
on Ubuntu :-( Nothing worked, no Java highlighting, no text editor, no
plugins... but with the help of this thread at least this was resolved
(i was already booting to Windows to do my homework in Eclipse, can you
believe that?).

i have the same issue.

/var/log/messages contains:

this could be from user 2, which I logged out. IIRC the drum roll sound
could be heared once already before login/ password back to user 1, so
right after logout of user 2. (Trash has nothing to do with it I
assume).

Just logged out to end the drum roll sound and realised that I too have
the error message: wrong username and password on the then new login
screen although I didn't enter anything yet, i.e. the error message is
already there right after logout.

So it's here too the thing with empty username and password and gdm
trying to log in.

Trying to eject my iPod Shuffle (1st gen.) via Gnome's Eject button.

Error window 1 comes up immediately. After a while, the second error
windows pops up. Seems that the iPod is ejected though.

This bug really annoyed me. Have an EEE pc 701 and like to enjoy
Intrepid without these distractions. Here is my quick solution for now:


In the terminal, type:

sudo gedit /usr/lib/hal/scripts/linux/hal-system-power-suspend-linux


Scroll to the bottom of the script. Before 'exit $RET' add these lines:

# Reinit compiz to get rid of icon junk...
sleep 8
compiz --replace &


Remember to remove these lines as soon as this bug is fixed. Hope this works 
for other Ubuntu users. Cheers and thanks again to the developers doing all the 
hard work!

Actually, when I click Empty Trash (in the main menu, context menu, ...)
Evolution will immediately be off the screen! It's even faster than
closing it regularly. I crashes without error message, without the
Ubuntu bug tracking system taking notice, just as if it was never there.
Can do that repeatedly.

[Bug 287435] [NEW] Laptop Docking Station not recognised correctly

Hardware Toshiba M200 Tablet with Toshiba Docking Station.

When used in Laptop mode -> Hibernate -> Restart in Docking Station ==>
no screen displayed, not on external (docking station connected) monitor
but also not internal. Have to (completely) boot with Laptop in Docking
station.

When using NVidia Accelerated drivers and booting docked ==> complete
disregard of existance of docking station. Screen will stay on Laptop
==> Never use NVidia/ Desktop effects.

Taking the laptop out of the docking station (with pressing the "Undock"
button on the station first <- it doesn't matter) while running ==> need
to HARD reset and boot new.

All these features ofcourse do work when booted with the "other"
commercial OS.

Have the same here on an HP Tablet tx2500.

am on 64bit ubuntu 9.10, fresh install from CD, did activate Broadcom
B43 wireless driver before but that didn't bring up any wireless
connection, i still had to connect to my LAN cable, so I tried to
activate Broadcom STA wireless driver next but that crashed my system
completely when trying to Activate via Hardware Drivers. Only the caps
lock LED kept blinking, everything else was frozen up.

NEWS:
I re-installed amd64 ubuntu 9.10 but this time I did _not_ install Broadcom B43 
adapter (as requested by "Hardware Drivers") but _only_ Broadcom STA.

Now everything works fine!

It looks like the "Hardware Drivers" hardware detection detects my WiFi
as B43 (which is the driver that makes the system unstable) and STA
which eventually works.

I am on HP Tablet tx2500ru (russian phonetics) which should be the same
model as other tx2500 systems, the ones with ATI inside.

to install - which hard crashed the machine.

Ubuntu 9.10 amd64 fresh install. Just tried to install sl-modem driver
from System->Administration->Hardware Drivers which made the machine
crash. Problems to use Update Software are all over since then.

[Bug 489344] [NEW] tried to install sl-modem hard crashed on daemon - crashed complete dpkg system

I am on amd64 karmic koala Ubuntu 9.10.

I used the Admin menu "Hardware Drivers" to install the sl-modem driver.
During that the system hung itself up and the caps-lock began to blink
(that was the last thing to see alive, mouse would not move everything
else was frozen up).

Now (after hard reboot) trying to use Update Manager ends in "Please
sudo dpkg --configure -a" which ends in:

Setting up libc6-i386 (2.10.1-0ubuntu15) ...

When launching cgroup commands like cgcreate after the upgrade to 21.10,
the following error is printed:

cgcreate: libcgroup initialization failed: Cgroup is not mounted

The issue seems to be related to the libcgroup version, which does not
support the now used cgroup2.

[Bug 1903283] [NEW] Nautilus does not start and if it does takes crazy long time to do so

Public bug reported:

When starting nautilus (either via clocking the button or using the terminal) 
after startup, nautilus does not start at all.
Starting it via the terminal results in a Timeout error.

I can though see the process in the system monitor.
If I terminate the process via "End process" and then start nautilus again, 
the nautilus window appears after around 20 seconds.

I then get the same behavior if I want to save a file from within an 
application.
E.g. if I click "save file to" within inkscape, it will take around 20s until 
the file manager window open.

I purged nautilus and reinstalled it already, but it did not help.
I also followed a stackoverflow answer, saying that you have to

sudo apt-get purge xdg-desktop-portal-gtk

Right after I did that, nautilus was starting immediately.
But after a reboot the effect was gone and I was back with the old problem.

Sper annoying.

No, this is not a new "Ubuntu" bug. It also happens on "Fedora". I am
sorry that I completely forgot about that issue that I encounter myself
when using the current tree. I am using an older snapshot that compiles
correctly. Try to checkout the "DRM" branch as of about 2 months ago.
That one should work.

Simply unpack the attachment, go to "linux-core" and type 'make
DRM_MODULES="savage"' to build "drm.ko" and "savage.ko" or simply type
"make" to build all the kernel modules. Make sure to load the new
modules "drm.ko" and "savage.ko" before the "X" server starts or simply
replace the original ones by the new ones as described elsewhere. Good
luck!

What model is your notebook exactly? Is direct rendering supported by
the "X" server as reported in "Xorg.0.log"? Did you ever manage to get
direct rendering work for previous releases? Do you still obtain the
error message:

 libGL error: reverting to (slow) indirect rendering
 display: :0 screen: 0
 direct rendering: No
 ... ?

I have an "IBM ThinkPad T23" like Giorgio. For older models T20-T22,
success is less certain. Also make sure that the video memory is
sufficient for direct rendering. Try "16bpp" and a resolution like
"1024x768" to start with.

I could not reproduce this with graphviz 2.8-2.6 in feisty fawn by
following the instructions shown in the Debian Bug. Maybe it was fixed
in a later version.

The generated SVG shows correctly in Firefox and Eye of Gnome. xmllint
doesn't seem to have any problem with it either. All of this of course
assumes that the original .dot-file is indeed saved in iso-8859-1
encoding.

Could you please give detailed steps on how to reproduce this?

Thanks for your bug report. I can't seem to reproduce your problem.

I don't find any gconf keys at apps/panels/system_default/top_panel

What I do see is those two trees:
/apps/panel/default_setup/toplevels/top_panel
and
/apps/panel/toplevels/top_panel_screen0

Changing keys in the first tree doesn't change anything in my running
setup (as it seems to be used for initial setup when you start Gnome for
the first time), but changing keys in the second tree is instantly
applied on the panels visible in my screen.

Could you please add some more information on how to reproduce the bug?

- the problem also occurs with f-spot from cvs

- I've now even found that f-spot freezes the system right in the middle
of any possible action. sometimes, just starting it can trigger the

then it's not a graphics driver issue, since I'm running the unichrome
driver on a km400 (I've tested both the one that comes with feisty and
