[Bug 668415] Re: Movement of Unity launcher
@Fernando: I'd rather they get rid of the bugs first, but honestly.. Canonical devs needs to learn that 20 years of habit takes effort to change, specially when it makes you comfortable and productive, and even Apple keeps a sane level of customization on such aspects on OSX. [Bug 668415] Re: Movement of Unity launcher
Now that It's been a year since i started using unity... I got completely used to the launcher on the left. I can use it fine, and i recognize the advantage of more usable screen space. In contrast, I couldn't get used to Gnome 3 at all. [Bug 662011] [NEW] gnome changes theme when out of memory
Public bug reported: When some buggy app goes into infinite loop and starts fetching and fetching and fetching RAM, before it is killed by the kernel.. Gnome changes the selected theme!! I know it's bizarre, but itgoes into a very basic looking theme and sounds are enabled. What is weirder, this affects some of the running apps, not all! (example, xchat is affected, but not pidgin) and there is simply no way to turn the affected apps to normal again (previously being used theme or turn off sounds).. restart is needed or else those apps look like win95 and have sounds enabled this happens for real, and happens at my work computer too in my office! [Bug 508277] [NEW] Pulseaudio can't be removed transparently any longer.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio Pulseaudio has been a very large source of problems and bugs since it has been included as default. This is not a surprise given it's "extra" layer of complexity and poor comptibility with wrapping existing ALSA applications. Maybe totem and rythmbox work fine, but for those who use many other audio related apps that are not jack-based (such as sound editors, trackers, emulators, etc), incompatibility with it is constantly an issue and blaming the applications for not being pulseaudio-friendly is avoiding the problem at best. Given every new ubuntu version comes packed with new pulseaudio bugs (crashes, then 100% usage peaks, and now sound corruption and glitchiness in karmic which still aren't fixed). I always proceeded to either uninstalling it or replacing it by OSS4, which works flawlessly and perfect. However, doing so in 9.10 will make all volume controls, totem, sound preferences, etc stop working, with no way to fix it given it seems to be too tied up to pulseaudio. I'd report pulseaudio existense as a bug itself, but since i can't, i'm reporting that there's no easy way to get rid of it. ** Affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Pulseaudio can't be removed transparently any longer. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508277 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm trying this out in hopes of a fix too. Yes I know those bugs are now fixed, but it can't be denied that they did happen due to having an extra layer! [Bug 240916] Re: can't configure display resolution (monitor, graphics card) manually in gui
Well, as the bug i reported was marked as a duplicate of this one (https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260436), which I agree with, i'm leaving a comment to remark that this behavior not only happens for undetected monitors, but with most cheap KVM switches out there (which make the video card unable to detect the monitor). Of course finding the monitor modeline and setting an entry on xorg.conf fixes the problem, but then user is left to its own luck to find the correct modeline on the internet (or the monitor docs, -in case he/she still has them-). A proper configuration window to allow selection of the monitor model (or similar) would be ages more userfriendly in case of unable to detect... ubutu already had that functionality, but it was taken away, which i feel is sad.. so why is this on wishlist? -- can't configure display resolution (monitor, graphics card) manually in gui https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/240916 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 260436] [NEW] Unable to force screen resolution with vtswitch/splitter
Public bug reported: This could be considered a bug or a sugestion. I have a splitter to show a signal in many monitors (and the same happens when using a vtswitch). Ubuntu (xorg) is obviously not being able to receive the info from the monitors, so it only allows to change the resolution to 640x480 max. Connected directly to a monitor, everything works fine and ubuntu works in 1024x768. This is right now avoiding us to use ubuntu for educational purposes (need to show in several monitors to students in a room). I believe the right choice would be to (in case monitor isn't detected) allow the user to force resolution him/herself (being warned about the risk of damaging an old monitor of course). Windows and OSX do this. We've been told this can be forced by editing a configuration file, but it seems too complex for what people here is capable of.
