[Bug 1003712] Re: No sound after latest update for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
This bug appears to be fixed as of 2012-06-02. I have not run any Ubuntu updates for a week so I'm not sure which update fixed it but there were over 100 files updated when I checked this weekend and after that update it seems to work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1003712 Title: No sound after latest update for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1003712/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 1003712] Re: No sound after latest update for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
I forgot to mention that the work-around described in bug 946232 did not apply to me since there were no lines contain "required-any" which were not already commented out in the file mentioned. So that did not fix my problem. On Thu, May 24, 2012 at 3:52 AM, Dave Lentz <1003...@bugs.launchpad.net>wrote: > Thanks for the information. Re: [Bug 1003712] Re: No sound after latest update for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
I followed those instructions and my computer is affected by what is described there. That is, I can see the "Headphone Output" appear and disappear from the list of outputs as I plug it in and unplug it. Likewise with the mic and list of inputs. I've noticed this since installing 12.04 and I like this feature because Skype "just works" now when I plug in my camera. Before it kept returning to the unused mic input even though there is no mic plugged in, so I would have to manually set it back the the camera mic input whenever I plugged in the camera. I no longer have to do that with 12.04 so I personally do not consider that a bug. But what I am describing is slightly different and happened recently. The modification to the analog-output.conf.common file required for these Dell laptops causes the "Analog Output" to disappear just as the "Headphone Output" disappears when unplugged. It seems as though that modification has the same effect as "unplugging" the built-in speakers. Plus this just started happening Tuesday which is since that "bug" was reported. [Bug 1003712] Re: No sound after latest update for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected precise ** Description changed: After runing the latest update this morning I no loger have sound on my Dell laptop (Inspiron E1705). My sound control panel used to show the sound output choices of "Digital Output(S/PDIF)" and "Analog Output" but after the upddate it just shows "Digital Output(S/PDIF)" . These Dell laptops requiring modifying the analog-output.conf.common file, and when I remove that modification "Analog Output" appears as a choice again sound works, but badly because these Dell's require that modification or the sound either silient or very loud through the range of the volume control. I imagine many people with these Dell laptops are having this problem since this update. The modification that makes these Dells work (which this update broke) is in the file: /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/analog-output.conf.common and replacing: [Element PCM] switch = mute volume = merge override-map.1 = all override-map.2 = all-left,all-right with the following: [Element Master] switch = mute volume = ignore [Element PCM] switch = mute volume = merge override-map.1 = all override-map.2 = all-left,all-right [Element LFE] switch = mute volume = ignore - Making that change and restarting removes "Analog Output" as a choice - for Output's. I will be glad to provide more information about my - system if someone will tell me what would be useful. + Making that change and restarting removes "Analog Output" as a choice for Output's.
