So it seems the problem is really only with power saving not working. I will edit the title accordingly, if you don't mind. (If I'm mistaken, please edit the title back. See also bug 40571 that states that screensavers only work when power saving is set.) (For power saving, I only have the options 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 15 etc. minutes available. I assume the 8 minutes only what you use for the screensaver?) Are you currently using Gutsy? For the power saving, what monitor, graphics card and XORG driver are you using? I wonder if somehow the settings file has become owned by someone else (e.g. root). This bug remains in kubuntu hardy heron. Is there somebody assigned to this bug? I simply can't believe this bug remains unsolved.
