[Bug 1950492] Re: wifi stops working on Dell XPS 9310
This issue has sat incomplete without any response from the reporter for more than 60 days so it is being closed as "Invalid" as it won't expire due to the linked bug watch. However, the issue has probably been fixed as two of the three bug reports referred to in comment #3 are showing as being "Fix Released". Please feel free to create a new bug report by issuing the command ubuntu-bug linux in a terminal if this is still an issue when using a currently supported release of Ubuntu. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1950492 Title: wifi stops working on Dell XPS 9310 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1950492/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1950492] Re: wifi stops working on Dell XPS 9310
This appears to be triggered by commit 4f73581836f031611b281c8c6017202f36afbf6b, the change is reported as a bug in the 5.13 kernel as well and appears to have been brought into the 5.11 HWE kernel. https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=214455 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1950492 Title: wifi stops working on Dell XPS 9310 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1950492/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1950492] Re: wifi stops working on Dell XPS 9310
Same problem here with Ubuntu 20.04 on a Dell XPS 15 9500, but in my case it was triggered by update from kernel 5.11.0-38-generic to 5.11.0-40-generic. Apt history shows the update as occurring last Friday morning, and the next time I rebooted (the day after) the WiFi module stopped working, message in dmesg as above. After the error, the WiFi module is not even visible to the BIOS. The only way to get the WiFi module to appear again is to remove the back of the laptop and disconnect the battery, but if I boot Linux it immediately is knocked out again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1950492 Title: wifi stops working on Dell XPS 9310 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1950492/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1950492] Re: wifi stops working on Dell XPS 9310
Same problem here on Ubuntu w/Dell 9310 and AX500. Reverting to 5.13.0-19 resolved the issue. First reboot didn't fix the issue, but a full power cycle did. I used a USB wifi dongle to install. Without that, you might need to grab the relevant dpkgs and put on a USB stick to update. sudo apt install linux-headers-5.13.0-19 linux-headers-5.13.0-19-generic linux-image-5.13.0-19-generic linux-modules-5.13.0-19-generic linux- modules-extra-5.13.0-19-generic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1950492 Title: wifi stops working on Dell XPS 9310 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1950492/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1950492] Re: wifi stops working on Dell XPS 9310
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1950492/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.
