[Bug 410844] Re: cannot any play sound Dell XPS 1330
I have a similar issue. Before today, I had to play with pavucontrol a bit to get sound (wrong output channel, everything muted by default, etc.). But today, I updated the system (didn't update since monday, I'm in karmic alpha), and sound just stopped working. I "see the sound" in pavumeter or pavucontrol, it just doesn't output anywhere -- cannot any play sound Dell XPS 1330 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410844 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 410844] Re: cannot any play sound Dell XPS 1330
Bug #408784 contains a lot of complaints regarding missing sound in Karmic with various HDA hardware (not only Dell XPS 1330). Daniel, you say that a fix is targetted at 2.6.32, but if kernel 2.6.31 is not fixed, it is a major regression IMHO. Do you know if this bug is reported to the ALSA kernel developers (I see nothing related to such a regression in kernel bugzilla, LKML or bugtrack.alsa-project.org) ? ** Also affects: linux Importance: Undecided Status: New -- cannot any play sound Dell XPS 1330 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410844 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

(they're in my branch) The troubleshooting process I outlined with David B in #ubuntu-audio- help is: 1) echo autospawn = no|tee -a ~/.pulse/client.conf 2) from a fresh boot, make sure pulseaudio is not running (killall pulseaudio if necessary) 3) speaker-test -c2 -Dplughw:0 (assuming card 0 is the desired one; you probably want to use the string instead of the index, see /proc/asound/cards) 4) (un)plug headphones from the jack to verify sensing is working What will be most useful is the contents of /proc/asound/card*/codec* while the two differences in step (4) are done, i.e., cat /proc/asound/card*/codec* while hp are unplugged and once again while they are plugged -- cannot any play sound Dell XPS 1330 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410844 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Daniel, I installed pavucontrol and played around with the settings, but it did not fix it. Can you tell me what options need to be set for sound to work ? [Bug 410844] Re: cannot any play sound
pavucontrol solved my problems. Only thing I needed to do is change from 'Analog Output' to 'Analog Output / Amplifier' in output devices tab. Only remaining issue is that sound is muted every time I boot my laptop. -- cannot any play sound https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410844 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
