[Bug 481385] Re: Setting video mode in Grub fails
Okay, I've tested latest upstream kernel. Results: Now it doesn't even recognize VESA modes, just VGA ones (80x24 lines and such). The 800x600 isn't even on the list when doing vga=ask. So still something's definately wrong. ** Tags removed: needs-upstream-testing ** Tags added: 2.6.32 2.6.34 ** Tags removed: 2.6.30 ** Tags added: 2.6.30 -- Setting video mode in Grub fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/481385 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 481385] Re: Setting video mode in Grub fails
Btw, I'm checking it now with 10.04 release. Nearly same symptoms - framebuffer still doesn't work, but now it also displays garbage on the screen if I wait a while. ** Tags removed: needs-kernel-logs -- Setting video mode in Grub fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/481385 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I have a Fujitsu Siemens B Series laptop (500 MHz CPU, Ati Rage Mobility gfx card). On 9.04 everything worked fine: I was able to set vga=0x315 to get 800x600x24 mode in console and run an app I have that's written in SDL. On 9.10 however all I get is a blank screen after adding vga=0x315 to kernel line. This is true for Grub2 and Grub legacy. [Bug 481385] Re: Setting video mode in Grub fails
Hi MaV, This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux 481385 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. [This is an automated message. [Bug 481385] Re: Setting video mode in Grub fails
Okay, so I've tested this issue and here are results: - it doesn't matter which GRUB version (legacy or 2) I'm using, or even which Ubuntu version (9.04 or 9.10) - it DOES matter which kernel I use: * 2.6.28.x works just fine * 2.6.30.x doesn't work (blank screen) * 2.6.32.x also doesn't work So the issue is in kernel itself, there must've been a regression somewhere between 2.6.28 and 2.6.30 branch. Any ideas? ** Tags added: 2.6.30 kernel-bug -- Setting video mode in Grub fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/481385 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 481385] Re: Setting video mode in Grub fails
The bug is a regression in 2.6.30 kernel as confirmed by testing. ** Package changed: grub2 (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu) -- Setting video mode in Grub fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/481385 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 481385] Re: Setting video mode in Grub fails
I'm pretty sure that it didn't work under neither GRUB Legacy (0.97) and GRUB 2. Setting the gfxpayload parameter didn't work on GRUB2, nor setting vga=... in GRUB Legacy. So the issue might not be related to grub itself, but to kernel. -- Setting video mode in Grub fails https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/481385 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
