There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. On reboot even with the Static profile, Auto eth0 with DHCP was the profile that loaded.. I expected the Static profile to load for 2 reasons.. it was the last profile loaded on reboot and it was marked 'Auto'.
