[Bug 690784] Re: Suspend and Hibernate options are not available
FYI, Xfce4-session 4.7.3-0ubuntu2 should now lock the screen automatically. I've also reenabled the 'hibernate' and 'suspend' buttons for the logout dialog in xubuntu-default-settings 11.04.1. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/690784 Title: Suspend and Hibernate options are not available -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 690784] Re: Suspend and Hibernate options are not available
Let's document the change, and keep the ability in the power-manager settings. We have enough bugs reported by those who insist they can not lock the screen when suspending and hibernating. ** Changed in: xubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/690784 Title: Suspend and Hibernate options are not available -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I tried using the menu buttons to go into suspend and hibertnate modes, and (after I turned the computer back on) the screen was not locked in either case. I also tried using the settings of the power manager to control things, and the same issue was present. This is all on Xfce 4.6, though. I haven't tried the 4.8 setup yet. If we don't enable those buttons by default, we can at least document what to do, and the risks (security) involved in doing so. At some time, upstream proposed to remove the current code, and instead call some functions from the power manager to do that (this would've ensured one single area of configuration and a common behavior), but I don't think it was achieved for 4.8. Anyway, these buttons are only hidden, so I can put them back if you want, e.g. if someone tested them and can confirm that the screen is locked when suspending/hibernating. -- Lionel Le Folgoc - https://launchpad.net/~mrpouit E61E 116D 4BA1 3936 0A33 F61D 65D9 A66E 10E2 969A -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/690784 Title: Suspend and Hibernate options are not available -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Is there a reason for why the suspend / hibernate buttons were hidden for 10.10? I think most users would look for those buttons, and wouldn't think to just configure the options via the power manager. Dano, if the option isn't re-enabled, we should document the various options to either re-enable the suspend and hibernate buttons (they can click a few buttons to do that), or to use the power-manager to set the desired behaviors. Yes, they are hidden by default since maverick (cf. the changelog of xubuntu-default-settings 10.10.0). But xfce4-power-manager provides these features anyway (right-click on the tray icon, and it can also set what action to do on a lid close, power button press, etc.).
