[Bug 811440] Re: CE: hpet increased min_delta_ns to 20113 nsec after ~30 minutes from the boot
Alan Pope ㋛, thank you for your comment. So your hardware and problem may be tracked, could you please file a new report with Ubuntu by executing the following in a terminal while booted into a Ubuntu repository kernel (not a mainline one) via: ubuntu-bug linux For more on this, please read the official Ubuntu documentation: Ubuntu Bug Control and Ubuntu Bug Squad: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/BestPractices#X.2BAC8-Reporting.Focus_on_One_Issue Ubuntu Kernel Team: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies#Filing_Kernel_Bug_reports Ubuntu Community: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette When opening up the new report, please feel free to subscribe me to it. [Bug 811440] Re: CE: hpet increased min_delta_ns to 20113 nsec after ~30 minutes from the boot
Raul SA, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc1 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. [Bug 811440] Re: CE: hpet increased min_delta_ns to 20113 nsec after ~30 minutes from the boot
Didn't happen in RC8. As a curiosity: There are 97 bug reports here at launchpad (related, unrelated) in which users (willingly, unwillingly) posted their logs with this error message. I see it's out of the scope of Ubuntu and will report to kernel.org. [Bug 811440] Re: CE: hpet increased min_delta_ns to 20113 nsec after ~30 minutes from the boot
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the release candidate kernel versus the daily build. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs- upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. ** Tags added: needs-upstream-testing -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/811440 Title: CE: hpet increased min_delta_ns to 20113 nsec after ~30 minutes from the boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/811440/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 811440] Re: CE: hpet increased min_delta_ns to 20113 nsec after ~30 minutes from the boot
Well, I think I can say that both RC8 and 3.1.0-999.201110040905_amd64 are very likely free from this problem. I could not install RC9 (had a weird dependency problem). I tested two machines for exactly 45 minutes and had no mention whatsoever to the min_delta message reported here. Normally in a matter of 10 minutes I had lots of instances of the message. The PCs were under heavy use: playing mp3 over network, running VirtualBox host with Win7-64 Guests, OpenGL tests, accelerated desktop (Nvidia), 1080p video playing, libreoffice, browsing, using network (smb) for large file transfers, plus more stuff. I'll keep them in stress test for a day and report again, but at this point I'm pretty sure if we still had the problem dmesg would be full of the min_delta increase msgs.
