Note that this report is about the user interface of UpdateManager. Even assuming there is a good reason why the updates of some packages are kept back, showing checkboxes that cannot be checked without giving any information about why they can't be checked doesn't make any sense and is what this report is about. If you click on a checkbox and it doesn't get selected, some sort of popup should appear saying this item cannot be selected for this and that reason. No, running dist-upgrade doesn't solve the problem. The output from dist-upgrade was: The following packages have been kept back: libboost-date-time-dev libboost-dev libboost-iostreams-dev libboost-regex-dev plus there were a few packages that _were_ installed or upgraded. I lost the output from dist-upgrade, but if I run it again it shows the part mentioned above, plus 0 upgraded / 0 installed etc. The 4 packages that were kept back actually are the ones that show up unchecked and uncheckable in Update Manager.
