Yes, I am using Kubuntu 14.10 Plasma 5 Tech Preview Version, on my laptop HP ProBook 4331s. After you said we can use lightdm instead of sddm, I installed lightdm and its dependence on my Kubuntu. Then switch to lightdm. However, after reboot, I can't login after type in my Passward. It gives an error called can not start section or some similar words. So I wrote it is impossible. I think he got that, but something else must be going on, as for us plasma 5 is working fine with lightdm. Although I recall an issue at first instance (not sure now what was it). Faced similar issue with plasmaworkspace taking too much ram and cpu sometimes. Also udisksd, Xorg and KWin used to take too much ram and cpu.
