[Bug 190198] Re: Hardy 4 does not recognize screen on Asus G1S
Thank you for reporting this issue about xserver-xorg-video-nv. Starting with Lucid, Ubuntu is transitioning to using the -nouveau video driver by default instead of -nv. The reason for this change is because upstream development for the -nv driver has been quite slow. We are quite pleased with the upstream development speed for -nouveau, and hope this will translate into swifter bug fixes as well. Because of this, I'm closing this bug report at this time. I'm marking it wontfix because what you describe is probably a valid issue, but we do not have further plans to work on it in Ubuntu. If you would still like to see this issue investigated, I would encourage you to file it upstream at http://bugs.freedesktop.org/. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-nv (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Won't Fix -- Hardy 4 does not recognize screen on Asus G1S https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/190198 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 190198] Re: Hardy 4 does not recognize screen on Asus G1S
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg I tried to run Hardy 4 on my machine, both by using the standard Live CD and by installing Hardy 4 Studio to the hard drive. The initial screens / installation came up perfectly. However, when I tried to boot into the new system, the screen came up gibberish, with random colors on part of the screen, and black on the other part. I installed performed all upgrades this morning, got new kernel and modules, re-ran: dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg Still black. I understand this issue may be well-known because of ati-radeon drivers and possible issues with NVIDIA GeForce but thought I would report it because I couldn't find a bug. In the meantime, my technical knowledge is limited but I can perform tests if required. I have Hardy 4 Studio installed and can work it from the command line. + + [lspci] + 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation Mobile PM965/GM965/GL960 Memory Controller Hub [8086:2a00] (rev 03) + Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. [Bug 190198] Re: Hardy 4 does not recognize screen on Asus G1S
Have re-installed Intrepid Studio with daily build. NV driver still does not work. Have to manually edit xorg.conf and change driver name to vesa. ** Attachment added: lspci-vvnn http://launchpadlibrarian.net/16957229/lspci-vvnn.log -- Hardy 4 does not recognize screen on Asus G1S https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/190198 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Still the same. Black on one half, random colors on the other. [Bug 190198] Re: Hardy 4 does not recognize screen on Asus G1S
Could you try a daily livecd which has a newer driver? Seems that it's trying to drive some other output than the one you are using, and the new driver should fix some issues with it. -- Hardy 4 does not recognize screen on Asus G1S https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/190198 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 190198] Re: Hardy 4 does not recognize screen on Asus G1S
Sounds strange that the livecd would work but the installed system not. Anyway, please attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /etc/X11/xorg.conf and we'll investigate it further. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- Hardy 4 does not recognize screen on Asus G1S https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/190198 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
