Actually the pavucontrol worked for me on an acer aspire 4306z laptop. The
volume of the headphones was turned down.

Ok, if you are still not getting any sound when the headphones selection
is made, and all volumes are turned up and unmuted, then there is a
problem somewhere. Can you check in the alsa mixer, with the alsamixer
command in a terminal, that if you have a headphone volume control, that
it is unmuted and turned up?

No, thats fine, I will take a look when I get the chance in the next day
or so.

Ok, I suggest that you isntall pavucontrol and try setting the correct
output with that, under the hardware tab. The applet in the panel does
not et have a complete set of controls for configuring audio output, but
I have been assured they will be added in the coming months.

recognized is due to Alsa ?

Have you already reported a bug about this? If so, can you please give
me the bug number? If not, and there are no other bugs that are the same
as yours, please open a new bug reporting this issue. File the bug
against alsa-base, with the ubuntu-bug command, like so: "ubuntu-bug
alsa-base"

Thanks

2009-08-06 Thread Luke Yelavich
Try clearing all pulse related files from your home directory, and
restarting pulseaudio, either by running "pulseaudio -k" in a terminal,
or logging out, and back in again.

 affects ubuntu/pulseaudio
