[Bug 152131] initial ubuntu image is moved to the right

[Bug 97591] Re: [gutsy] MSN waiting for network connection... but does not connect
I made it! here's the patch to force the disconnection after network manager looses a connection. it was really simple, you can look it yourself. now when a cable is unplugged/a wireless signal is lost/a connection goes down, pidgin forces the disconnection of all accounts, and when network-manager regains a new connection, then pidgin automatically reconnects. ** Attachment added: "pidgin-disconnect-when-net-down.patch" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/9958533/pidgin-disconnect-when-net-down.patch ** Changed in: pidgin (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => In Progress -- [gutsy] MSN waiting for network connection... but does not connect https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/97591 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 150777] Re: in gutsy, screen locks on lid close even when gconf option is turned off
I can confirm this. I think the greatest option for this is /apps/gnome-power-manager/lock/use_screensaver_settings . If people want locking they enable screensaver locking which results in locking for suspend, hibernate and so on but people who don't want enter their password every time disable locking and everything is fine. It makes no sense for me to open gconf-editor to disable locking per hand if there is such an option. [Bug 52302] Re: Intel Pro Wireless 3945 is not detected with latest kernel update
Although I'm a bit knowledgeable about computers, I'm an almost newbie in Linux. After a fresh install over XP SP2, I obviously tried to get the internal wireless device to work, as it's how I connect at home (GPRS when out of it, but that might be another chapter). It didn't work. It is recognized as eth1 in Network Definitions (sorry, it's not in English) and as active; but console commands such as sudo lshw, sudo pccardctl ident and lspci -v do not list it. entering the appropriate IP values for the router doesn't produce a connection either. A kernel update to image 2.6.15.26 is suggested by the command sudo apt-get install linux-686 above but obviously no net connection exists. Public bug reported: I had a new installation of Ubuntu 7.10 RC and I'd some problems with the resolution. Firstly, the installation finished without problems and everething run OK. Daniel - I've tried this myself and get totally different results. I've taken 7.10.3 from the archive, and 7.10.4 as a svn export. The debdiffs look fine. I'll attach both the one on the source package (on the .dsc files) and the one on the binaries (on the .deb files). My builds were done on gutsy, up to date as of yesterday. [Bug 152148] Trouble configuring compiz using ccsm
Public bug reported: When I run ccsm to configure Compiz on Gutsy, it runs fine and displays the configuration options correctly. However, certain actions do not work at all or do not work as expected. Firstly, setting values using the keyboard does not register them with the configuration tool. For example, if an opacity value is set to 20 and I delete the 20 and key in a 40, the new setting never takes effect and the configuration tool reflects a value of 20 when restarted. Second, setting new shortcut keys for compiz actions seems to be broken. I can set key combonations such as ctrl+alt+super+x, for example, but I can't use alt+tab, shift+tab, or any such combinations. These combinations are already used by certain compiz programs, so I see the fact that they cannot be set customized using the configuration tool as a bug. Third, the compiz userspace filesystem plugin will not initialize. There is no error message; the configuration tool just refuses to enable it. If these are all separate bugs, I can file them independently and mark this one a duplicate of them. I'm definitely willing to submit configuration files and such if somebody tells me where to find them. Thanks for your hard work, Compiz guys... [Bug 81057] Re: DNS Resolves everything to 1.0.0.0 intermittently on some ADSL Routers
OK so here's my theory and how i fixed it (on 100+ Ubintu machines). There is some low level incompatibility between the Ubuntu dns requests and specific models of router. (I've heard this happens on a few other distros as well, so it's not Ubuntu specific) Some models of router are absolutely fine, and some models resolve to 1.0.0.0 just about all the time. Some success can be had by disabling ipv6 on some routers, but on most of my DSL connections with these faulty DSL routers, this had no effect. The only fix guaranteed fix I have found is to avoid asking these routers for DNS information, because they LIE! To do this I install a small package called "dnsmasq", this is a caching DNS proxy service that sits on your local machine and passes requests upstream to real DNS servers, and also caches the results. (apt-get install dnsmasq) (man dnsmasq) I then set the .conf file of dnsmasq to pass DNS requests directly to opendns (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenDNS). You could also use the DNS IP of your ISP's dns servers. Your local machine is then set to use 127.0.0.1 (localhost) for DNS queries where dnsmasq will answer them from cache if it can (very fast) or go out to the DNS server you set in the .conf file. This approach totally avoids the need to ask these buggy DSL routers DNS queries. As I mentioned earlier I've got this running on 100+ ubuntu machines, and 60+ DSL routers, and it has not missed a beat. The other option I should have mentioned is that manually putting the IP addresses of good DNS servers directly into your router often fixes the problem (usually by unticking / unticking a box like "use ISP's DNS Servers / use Manual DNS servers". The reason I did not use this approach for my machines is that I usually have no access to log into my clients DSL router, so I needed a solution that would work on the client PC.
