[Bug 75384] Re: xsane PDF file sizes could be optimized
Same here. I use a HP C7280 and almost all my scans are 1-multiple page and 2-output to pdf. A standard A4 business letter, scanned grayscale to pdf in 200 dpi will get me about 1,2MB per page. That's quite ridiculous really and it makes mailing those docs awkward. Not all my relations have wideband internet and gig-size mailboxes. I did not find any options in the setup to control the image size/compression when producing pdf's, just the basic scan resolution setting. Also it seems a bit strange that I can't scan at a lower resolution than 192 dpi, which was possible earlier. Running 10.04 amd64 (and definitely not going back to XP or Vista to use the HP original software!) cheers Tom -- xsane PDF file sizes could be optimized https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/75384 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 608295] [NEW] dual monitor not working nvidia 195.36.24Oubuntu
Public bug reported: I have a dual monitor setup, between Ubuntu 10.04 and Windows 7 via WUBI (severe problems already reported when tried to use strait cd setup). When I first got this working, I was annoyed that dual screen was disabled, hence worked more in Win7 than Ubuntu. About a month or 6 weeks ago, I got the second monitor working in Lucid (Ubuntu 10.04), and figured out that my mouse wasn't tracking properly between the two screens because ubuntu for some strange reason thought they were katty korner rather than vertically arranged (or even horizontally arranged as is the Win7 default). The dual display worked until about two weeks ago, when the bizarre tracking resumed--Lucid now thinks my displays are side-by-side and I can't get into System/Monitors to change it like I did before. All I get today is the message: "could not get screen information: RANDR is not present." Checking synaptic, LIBXRANDR2 is present, as is x11-xserver-utils (7.5+1ubuntu2) and totem. Trying to get the dual display working, I added through synaptic 8 RANDR affiliated packages, including libxcb-randr0, gnome-randr-applet, and lxrandr (0.1.1-2). No packages were removed by synaptic during that installation. I did not try to add the developer and debugging packages because I don't have that technical expertise. FYI, I have been installing the normal ubuntu updates using update manager, though this AM wasn't able to get a ubuntu screen beyond the flash screen until I went into corrective mode and checked for and installed broken packages (8 installed/corrected before the 8 installations apparently involved in the RANDR attempt and none of the updates seemed to involve nvidia or xorg files). FYI, this machine has an Athlon 4 core processor, Biostar MB and a GeForce 9400 video card. Bug reporting via the F2 method mentioned in the Ubuntu forums is impossible. Apparently, bug packages aren't included anymore in the general releases, though today I installed aport and its 37 related files. Sorry I can't understand the Bugs/FindRightPath wiki explanation to figure out which of these files is the culprit. When I had the same problem in Win7, it was eventually solved by an nvidia tech (after 2 weeks correspondence!) using a non-intuitive solution (not the previously normal Windows/Display Properties mode--I think some system settings but I can't remember without going to the other boot, which will kill this report). There's a limit to the amount of time I'm going to spend on this--trying to report this bug has already cost me over an hour. I hope this is accurate and helpful. The system/about Ubuntu link is useless for finding the package version beyond the 10.04 I already knew since it's nearly an advertisement "Ubuntu -- Linux for Human Beings." [Bug 574910] Re: High load averages on Lucid while idling
This is getting silly. I currently have 2 Amazon EC2 instances running 10.04 LTS, both of which sit at around 1.0 load and can go to 4, and that's only serving a few users. They were "upgraded" from 8.04 LTS where the load rarely went above 0.5. I'm guessing as this hasn't been resolved for nearly 3 months with an official patch the only solution we have is to switch to another distribution. -- High load averages on Lucid while idling https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574910 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 524281] Re: Tens of wakes per second in "[kernel scheduler] Load balancing tick" on Core 2 Duo even with only 1 core enabled
Can anyone confirm if this is the cause of the high load on EC2? I've 2 instances which have been "upgraded" to 10.04 LTS and both sit around 1.0 and peak at 4 or 5. [Bug 447192] Re: [Dell Inc. Latitude 131L] hibernate/resume failure in 9.10 KARMIC and in 10.04 LUCID
There were some kernel updates recently and I noticed boot and shutdown behaviour changing (good, since I'm having one of those troublesome ATI Xpress 200M chips onboard.) Gave it another whirl yesterday; chose hibernate manually from the start/stop button (excuse the winblows parlour...). System took a while, but did go into something that looked like hibernation. This morning I switched on again and after choosing the normal (default) Ubuntu option from Grub, it came back to me exactly as I left it the night before. Hooray. Will keep an eye out for slip ups and report back in a week or so, but for now this seems solved to me. [Bug 417757] Re: [regression] all network apps / browsers suffer from multi-second delays by default due to IPv6 DNS lookups
This is where pragmatism comes in. We have absolutely no control over those resolvers, and even if we had any influence whatsoever with those who did, corporate networks are very slow to change. Ubuntu is the outsider. The Windows machines work. Your solution is not a pragmatic one. So, while being "pure" is good, I thought Ubuntu stayed out of such things. That's why Ubuntu offers easy integration of binary drivers for ATI and nVidia, why Ubuntu has a restricted-extras for convenient meta. Simply because IPv6 is *better* doesn't mean you should sacrifice adoption for the ideal. Using AI_ADDRCONFIG is simple enough, and as noted browsers like Firefox and Chrome have adopted that. What would be nice would be a simple package that forces it across the board, simply as an option for broken networks. -- [regression] all network apps / browsers suffer from multi-second delays by default due to IPv6 DNS lookups https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/417757 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
