[Bug 764744] Re: [UIFe] Add system setting icon to Launcher
@didrocks; agreed, updated description to clarify that this is optional @pitti; yes, this change only applies for fresh user accounts. ** Description changed: In usability testing, participants didn't find the system settings. They expected to find an icon in the Launcher. Desired solution: - Add a 'system settings' icon to the launcher. This icon should be present in the launcher by default after a fresh install. - - Add a launcher quicklist that links to Personal, Hardware, and System setting categories. + - Add a launcher quicklist that links to Personal, Hardware, and System setting categories (this change is optional for 11.10) - The 'System Settings' launcher icon should be positioned directly above the workspace switcher icon. Note that this change only applies to fresh installs. Users upgrading to Oneiric should not automatically have this icon added to their launcher. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/764744 Title: [UIFe] Add system setting icon to Launcher To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/764744/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 859560] [NEW] Gedit line number margin doesn't scale with font size
Public bug reported: Machine: 64bit Ubuntu Ocelot with all updates applied as of 26/09/2011. The width of the Gedit line number margin (enabled in preferences) doesn't scale with the font size. I am visually impaired and thus have my gedit font size set to 16. However when I do this and press enter a few times (so I have more than 9 lines in a file) the margin isn't expanded to fit the new two digit number. When we have more than 99 lines (three digits), the margin scales correctly once more. This happens on a new setup with fresh configuration files. Steps to reproduce: 1). Open gedit 2). Change font size to 16 (probably also has issues at other sizes too). 3). Make more than 9 lines in the file. ** Affects: gedit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/859560 Title: Gedit line number margin doesn't scale with font size To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit/+bug/859560/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 859569] [NEW] confilct with firmware-b43-lpphy-installer wireless stops working
Public bug reported: I have a broadcom 4312 chip that requires firmware to be loaded in order for the wireless card to work. Under regular Ubuntu with Unity, I opt out of using the b43 driver and use the restricted Broadcom STA wireless driver wl provided by the Additional Drivers application. Unfortunately this driver does not appear after using Kubuntu live CD install, so I installed the b43 driver using the package: firmware-b43-lpphy-installer. It downloads (I'm connected using the ethernet cable) the broadcom-wl-4.178.10.4.tar.bz2 file from openwrt.org/sources/broadcom-wl-4.178.10.4.tar.bz2 and extracts the firmware to /lib/firmware/b43/ folder. After this my wireless works. The latest version of linux-firmware-nonfree version 1.11 for Oneric Ocelot includes all firmware files: linux-firmware-nonfree (1.11) oneiric; urgency=low * Get _all_ of the b43 firmware files. http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#devicefirmware wget http://www.lwfinger.com/b43-firmware/broadcom-wl-5.100.138.tar.bz2 tar xjf broadcom-wl-5.100.138.tar.bz2 b43-fwcutter -w . broadcom-wl-5.100.138/linux/wl_apsta.o -- Tim Gardner Fri, 16 Sep 2011 13:40:08 -0600 linux-firmware-nonfree (1.10) oneiric; urgency=low * Added b43 firmware files now that the in-kernel driver is becoming more capable. -- Tim Gardner Fri, 16 Sep 2011 12:06:19 -0600 This overwrites the files from firmware-b43-lpphy-installer package and upon reboot I am not able to connect using wireless. The wifi light on the laptop lights up but I can't connect using network manager, there is no list of available networks. I removed linux-firmware-nonfree and reinstalled using command: sudo apt-get --reinstall firmware-b43-lpphy-installer after a reboot wireless works again. [Bug 858902] audio mixer freezes
I've since done more testing; seems it has nothing to do with Firefox or loading video embedded pages. Audio mixer applet becomes unresponsive when meta+w is pressed. It remains unresponsive until meta+w is pressed again and another applet is clicked with mouse, when it becomes responsive again. Have 'Scale' plugin enabled in Compiz so by placing my mouse pointer top right of screen it activates window arrangement the same as pressing meta+w. Might also mention sound is fine while applet is frozen; just can't be adjusted. [Bug 859568] [NEW] fwts: method test could give references to ACPI specifcation when it detects non-compliant AML
Public bug reported: Fwts method test could put a little more context into each method/object being tested when it hits a failure case. For example, at the moment, if _OFF fails we get a terse error message: "FAILED [MEDIUM]: Test 78, \_SB_.PCI0.PEG0.PEGP._OFF returned values, but was method expected to return nothing." We could have a little more advice on this, e.g.: "This power resource control method puts the power resource into the OFF state. Section 7.1.2 of version 4.0 of the ACPI specification states it should return NO values, but in fact \_SB_.PCI0.PEG0.PEGP._OFF does return a value. This is non-compliant code." and perhaps a better explanation of the risk of the fault: "Since this kernel is not expecting any return values then this bug is a relatively low risk of causing a failure, however it is buggy AML and if possible should be fixed." ** Affects: fwts (Ubuntu) Importance: Wishlist Status: New ** Changed in: fwts (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Wishlist -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/859568 Title: fwts: method test could give references to ACPI specifcation when it detects non-compliant AML To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fwts/+bug/859568/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 859537] Re: hplip does not work Oneiric beta 2
HPLIP 3.11.7 is already integrated in Oneiric and installed by default. To be able to just print, you do not need to install anything additional. Simply plug in your printer if it is USB and wait for screen messages. For a network printer, click the log-out/restart button at the upper right, and choose "Printers" in the menu. In the window coming up, click "Add", then wait ~15 sec for the network being scanned, choose your printer, and follow the steps of the wizard. If you really want to compile HPLIP 3.11.7 from the upstream source, please run the commands sudo apt-get install build-essential fakeroot sudo apt-get build-dep hplip to install all needed packages. If it still does not work, it is a bug in the upstream installer and not in Ubuntu. ** Also affects: hplip Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: hplip (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/859537 Title: hplip does not work Oneiric beta 2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/859537/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 859104] Re: Nautilus extensions written in Python do not work in Oneiric
I originally planned to send the following email to all the projects listed at the bottom, but it turns out to be more complicated than I thought, between the larger projects that have maintainer groups, and individuals without a public email address. I am thus going to add the projects as being affected by this bug, if not you can change the status of this bug for your own program. Subject: About your Nautilus extension being [probably] broken in Ubuntu 11.10 To: All developers of Nautilus scripts written in Python Body: Hi all, I'm sending you this email since you are developing a Nautilus extension in Python that is available in Ubuntu 11.10 (list of such packages at the end of this email). I have created such an extension myself and packaged it for Debian. It is available there in the "testing" version [0]. The extension installs correctly in Debian. However, the extension does not show up in Nautilus in Ubuntu 11.10 (beta 2 for now) (exact same version as in Debian). These are the version of Nautilus-Python/Python-Nautilus that are packaged: - In Debian: 0.6.1 [1] - In Ubuntu 11.10: 1.0 [2] Looking at the release notes, significant changes have been made in versions 0.7 and 1.0 that change the paths where the extensions are to be looked in. I have opened 2 bug reports that are relevant to this issue [3] and [4]. I suspect the problem is related to 2 things: - The extensions are not looked for anymore in the familiar /usr/lib/nautilus/extensions-2.0/python - Importing the module `nautilus` is not valid anymore I have installed various of your extensions, all of which failed to display in Nautilus. I suspect that a lot (all?) of the Nautilus extensions written in Python are currently broken in Ubuntu 11.10. Have you tested your packages in the latest Ubuntu Beta, before your regular users start opening bug reports? This is the reason for the broad list of recipients. I have opened a bug report against Nautilus-Python [5] for us to track the extent of this issue, and hopefully find a solution for it. Please mark your project/package as affected by this bug (by using the "Also affects distribution" link) so that we can keep track of the affected packages, and share the solution to fix this. Don't forgot to add a comment to this bug when doing so. Sorry for the "spam", let's fix this!
