[Bug 1160272] Re: Cannot add IM account (empty setup dialog)

2014-05-05 Thread Walter Garcia-Fontes
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test
it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running
apport-collect and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

Re: [Bug 1306315] Re: juju-mongodb process hangs around after package removal

2014-05-05 Thread John A Meinel
James, this may be a special case for juju-mongodb, but if you uninstall a
package, doesn't it usually stop the service that was running?
(uninstalling postgres should stop the postgres process, right?)

I guess in the case of juju-mongodb we have the problem that the packaging
itself isn't setting up the upstart script, but it is only set up when you
have bootstrapped an environment. I can't quite say what *should* happen if
you uninstall a package that we are depending on.

Certainly "juju destroy-environment" should be deleting the upstart script,
I'm just trying to understand if "apt-get remove juju-mongodb" should also
be stopping services that were using it. Or whether this bug should just be
WontFix.

[Bug 1310518] Re: Touch screen and touchpad lost click function after quickly tapped dash home repeatly by touch screen

2014-05-05 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
This bug can be reproduced using evemu-tools.

I recorded an event sequence which can introduced the bug (but not all
the time):

$ sudo apt-get install evemu-tools

$ sudo evemu-device s.prop

this will create a new device /dev/input/event# (# is the number showed
in the terminal)

$ sudo evemu-play /dev/input/event# < s.event

Expect behavior: nothing happens.

Actually behavior: Touchscreen/Trackpad/Mouse cursor works fine, but it can no
longer clicks.
press keyboard Alt+Tab can make click work again.

[Bug 1316072] [NEW] wrong result for "identify displays" in xfce4-display-settings

2014-05-05 Thread Hanno
Public bug reported:

The situation:

- Xubuntu 14.04
- xfce4-settings 4.11.2-1ubuntu2
- xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.910-0ubuntu1
- Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) HD Graphics 2000
- HDMI1: BenQ 17" TFT with 1280x1024
- HDMI2: Samsung 24" TFT with 1920x1080

What I did:

- open xfce4-display-settings
- click "identify displays"

What I got:

two little popups that say:
- Display: HDMI1 1280x1024 - on the BenQ TFT
- Display: BenQ 17" 1920x1080 - on the Samsung TFT

This is wrong: xfce4-display-settings puts the label of the first
monitor (BenQ 17") in the popup of the second monitor.

What I expected:

two little popups that say:
- Display: BenQ 17" 1280x1024 - on the BenQ TFT
- Display: HDMI2 1920x1080 - on the Samsung TFT

And now the logs:

grep HDMI /var/log/Xorg.0.log
[ 179.825] (II) intel(0): Output HDMI1 has no monitor section
[ 179.825] (II) intel(0): Output HDMI2 has no monitor section

[ 179.825] (--) intel(0): Output HDMI2 using initial mode 1920x1080 on pipe 1

get-edid -m 1 | parse-edid | grep ModelName

is not in 14.04 (at least not yet), as per the bug's description:

DKMSKernelVersion: 3.15.0-rc2-eudyptula-00206-g9310072

[Bug 1316076] [NEW] linux-generic-lts-saucy lacks megaraid_sas driver

2014-05-05 Thread Hans Rakers
Public bug reported:

A fresh install of Ubuntu 12.0.4.4 comes with kernel 3.11, but this
kernel seems to miss a lot of driver modules. In Saucy these drivers
were split off in linux-image-extra, but no such package exists for
precise's 3.11 kernel.

For example the module megaraid_sas is missing:

root@mirror:/lib/modules/3.11.0-20-generic/kernel/drivers/scsi/megaraid# ls
megaraid_mbox.ko megaraid_mm.ko

But it is included in http://packages.ubuntu.com/saucy-updates/amd64
/linux-image-extra-3.11.0-20-generic/filelist

Basically all drivers that were split off in linux-image-extra in saucy
are now missing in precise. Looks like a linux-image-extra is also
needed for precise.

[Bug 1289977] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 Update breaks grub, resulting in "error: symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found"

2014-05-05 Thread Terry Ellison
Thanks Phillip, I'll file my last point as a separate report as you
suggest. I take it that this should go down as a grub2 issue.

However to your point:

> You only get prompted to reconfigure if the previous configuration
> is broken. That is to say, it says to install to a drive that is no
> longer present. This is because the upgrade scripts know something
> has gone wrong and manual intervention is required. If you get that
> wrong, there's nothing we can do about it.

I can accept that this makes sense as a design intent, and is what the
implementation should do. But what do you mean by "broken" here.

In my case, I never configured grub in the first place other than
through the initial Ubuntu guided process, and I upgraded Ubuntu
successfully to 13.04 and 13.10 on this system without issue. So why
was it suddenly "broken" for the 14.04 upgrade? I have three system
partitions: the original /dev/sda1 as Win7, /dev/sda4 as the Lenovo
diagnostics and /dev/sda5 as my Ubuntu partition. GRUB was installed on
/dev/sda. (sda2 is my Win7 user partition and sda6 LVM2). Pretty
straight forward and unchanged since my initial install. If I want to
dick around with systems I use VMs.

However, there's no point in debating this further as we've been through
these arguments a few times and are repeating ourselves. Either the
counts will continue to rack up or they won't. Thanks for your input
anyway :-)

PS. I know GRUB 1.5 is politically incorrect with GRUB2, but IMO if it
quacks like a duck ... Maybe you should correct the Wikipedia article on
Grub. :-)

[Bug 1315530] Re: apport-retrace doesn't work with qemu

2014-05-05 Thread Martin Pitt
Nothing specific to QEMU. After /usr/share/apport/apport creates the
initial .crash file you need to run that through the UI data collection
by clicking on "Details..." or the first step of "Report" (but then not
actually send it to Launchpad). This will add all the necessary fields,
package versions, etc.

If you run apport-retrace right afterwards, on the same machine, without
changing any packages, you can also use apport-retrace's -R option (see
manpage).

** Changed in: apport (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Invalid

** Summary changed:

- apport-retrace doesn't work with qemu
+ apport-retrace needs initial data collection

As a poscript having just read #144, my swap partition is on LVM. Maybe
its the use of LVM that's causing the grub configuration checks to throw
a hissy-fart.

[Bug 1035431] Re: bluetooh-wizard failed to connect to a keyboard(logitech)

2014-05-05 Thread Jean-Pierre
Hello,

I upgraded to the packages in the PPA mentioned in comment #27. I
removed mi Logitech K810 keyboard using the GUI, then restarted the
computer. I managed to pair my keyboard successfully typing the six
characters on-screen. In fact, the GUI showed progression as I typed the
characters by marking already-typed ones with a dot.

Great Job Tim.

[Bug 838437] Re: nrpe server starts too early and fails to bind on IP

2014-05-05 Thread Andrey Konstantinov
Surprised to see the bug is so old. It only affects people who use
server_address directive. We have a Nagios server with ~30 clients
connected via OpenVPN and only recently started adding the
server_address directive to NRPE configs on clients. All of them will
fail to start NRPE on boot since naturally, OpenVPN address isn't up
until a while after networking has come up. This happens on both Debian
7 and Ubuntu 12.04. NRPE startup should somehow be moved after
networking.

[Bug 1316088] [NEW] Window can get maximized on the wrong monitor with a dual monitor setup, when more than half of it is on the second monitor

2014-05-05 Thread Dan
Public bug reported:

Reproducible: always

Requirements:
 - Dual monitor setup

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open any window
2. Position more than half of it on one monitor (Will call this one Monitor1),
while the rest is on the second monitor (Will call this one Monitor2).
3. Now, snap the window to the top bar of Monitor2.
4. Before releasing the mouse click, an "maximizing" animation will show on
Monitor2.
5. When mouse button is released, the window is maximized on Monitor1.

Expectation:
Since the animation is shown on Monitor2, I would expect the window to get
maximized on Monitor2.

---
My opinion is that it was probably made like so by design, so when clicking the
maximize button, the window gets maximized on the monitor where the majority of
it resides. But it is confusing to show the maximize animation on one screen
and maximize it on another.

[Bug 1316090] [NEW] Unable to drop/ place files and links on second screen in dual screen set up

2014-05-05 Thread Goth Queen
Public bug reported:

After updating from Xubuntu 13.10 (amd64) to Xubuntu 14.04 LTS (amd64) I
have encountered a bug with my dual screen set up.

Running the XOrg screen driver (xserver-xorg-video-nouveau), it is
possible to place/ drag and drop files and links on my left screen
desktop. This is also the desktop that contains the system icons (e.g.
removable drives, rubbish bin).

However, I I try to drag and drop a file or link on the right screen
desktop, it will not "stick" and "fly back" to its original location on
the left screen. Additionally, I noticed that, when dragging the file
over the troubled desktop, the "placement squares" don't show up. They
do on the functioning left screen.

Although I have a NVIDIA Corporation GK107 [GeForce GTX 650] Geforce I
do run the XOrg driver since it gives me the best results with the
software I'm using frequently. However, when I tested this during my
initial install of Trusty, I noticed that I did not encounter this bug
with the proprietary NVidia 304.117 driver (331.38 did not work for me
at all). Running the NVidia 304.117 driver, it was possible to drag and
drop/ place files and links on both screen desktops. Also the "placement
squares" appeared on both screens when a file was dragged over it.

After returning to the XOrg driver, the problem reoccurred, and
placement on the right screen was again not possible.

[Bug 1316092] [NEW] When the launcher is hidden, tearing occurs when scrolling/switching contents inside one window

2014-05-05 Thread Oleg O Andreev
Public bug reported:

When launcher is hidden, scrolling or switching in the maximized window
"tears" along the vertical line, where the launcher would've ended if it
was shown (i.e. (48, 0) - (48, screen height) if the launcher is 48px
wide). The easiest way to see is opening two tabs with black and white
backgrounds correspondingly and constantly switching between them.

I am not certain, but it looks like redrawing the part "under" the
hidden launcher is sometimes delayed for one frame.

Neither fullscreen windows nor switching between windows exhibit the
problem.

The bug did not manifest in Ubuntu 13.10.

The reported behaviour only concerns files and links (e.g the removable drive

[Bug 1316110] [NEW] perf samples too long

2014-05-05 Thread Michael Heuberger
Public bug reported:

I always see these lines in `dmesg` and wonder what these mean:
[ 3805.057535] perf samples too long (2507 > 2500), lowering
kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 5

They repeat often and I think the value
kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate should be somehow optimized. How can I
do that?

Or it is a bug?

Thanks

[Bug 1316111] [NEW] mount.cifs task fails to freeze during suspend; suspend fails

2014-05-05 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
Public bug reported:

I have a CIFS mount and am operating over wireless on a Lenovo X230 Tablet
Thinkpad
When I close the lid to sleep, the sleep light flashes for a while and then
stops, and the machine fails to suspend. Same if I try to initiate sleep from
the menus.

/var/log/kern.log is attached.

This is bad because it can lead to damage from overheating of hardware
(let alone running out of battery). I close my lid and don't usually
check for success before putting it into my bag. If it fails to suspend,
it will overheat.

[Bug 1268120] Re: apt-build generates en error message in update-manager

2014-05-05 Thread Ish Sookun
Hello,

Replacing the below line from the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/apt-
build.list:

deb file:/var/cache/apt-build/repository apt-build main

to

deb [arch=amd64] file:/var/cache/apt-build/repository apt-build main

I installed apt-build via command line and I have no reason to believe
the installation could have been tampered. I however continued getting
errors during "sudo apt-get update". So, it might be coming from the
apt-build package itself.

(sorry for the wrong information in the above messages). I notifed the

[Bug 1316057] Re: webbrowser-app AP failures after UITK upgrade

2014-05-05 Thread Zoltan Balogh
According to our investigation the root problem lays somewhere in the
OSK or in Qt input modul level.

Adding a Qt.inputMethod.show() to the addTab() function in the
BrowserView will work the problem around. With that we could avoid
reverting the UITK.

[Bug 1314723] Re: gnome-panel crash

2014-05-05 Thread Alberts Muktupāvels
gnome-panel loads configuration from gsettings/dconf, but dconf file
(database or whatever it is called) is stored in users home dir - /home
/[user-name]/.config/dconf/user.

Problem might be that when gnome-panel starts his home directory is not
mounted yet. So there is no way gnome-panel could load user's config.

[Bug 1316110] Re: perf samples too long

2014-05-05 Thread Michael Heuberger
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected trusty

** Description changed:

I always see these lines in `dmesg` and wonder what these mean:
  [ 3805.057535] perf samples too long (2507 > 2500), lowering
kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 5

They repeat often and I think the value
kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate should be somehow optimized. How can I
  do that?

  Or it is a bug?

  Thanks
  Michael
