[Bug 1471903] Re: -updates, -security missing from apt lists
note that we are not shipping *any* package lists today, it is 0 vs whatever tens of MB we add by removing the patch, there is no slightly bigger also this patch isnt enough i think, IIRC there are other places in livecd-rootfs where the package lists are forcefully removed to make sure we dont waste space on them, please also make the product team aware before making this change, since this limits the allowed space the custom tarball can occupy. also check if there are any developer tools that might use the deb-src entries for pulling build deps or whatnot (and add another patch to remove all teh deb-src entries). using apport-cli will be done by perhaps 1% of the users, since you need to use a terminal or developer mode to even execute it, do we really want to make everyone suffer by this instead of working out a proper solution that doesnt waste our extremely limited free space for a feature used by a fraction of users ? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1471903 Title: -updates, -security missing from apt lists To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/live-build/+bug/1471903/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1485970] [NEW] apt-get dist-upgrade falied with a dbus trigger loop due to an unconfigured library (libexpat1)
Public bug reported: While attempting to upgrade from before the gcc-5 transition to after it apt-get dist-upgrade exploded in the middle. It was attempting to handle dbus triggers but was unable to do so due to an unconfigured library, leading to a loop attempting to run the triggers and to the install failing in the middle: $ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade [...] Preparing to unpack .../libexpat1_2.1.0-7_amd64.deb ... [Bug 1485685] Re: Users are prompted on upgrade of cloud images
Note bug 1323772 (marked as duplicate) with more commentary, description of other workarounds and links to other bugs which may all be the same issue. ** Description changed: Steps to reproduce (use case): 1. Fire up a Trusty cloud image. 2. Run: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade Steps to reproduce (developer): 1. Fire up an older image that does not contain the newest grub2 SRU. Example: http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/trusty/20150706/trusty-server-cloudimg-amd64-disk1.img. I'm using uvt-kvm create --backing-image-file trusty-server-cloudimg-amd64-disk1.img testvm to do this. 2. Run: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade Expected results: completes without prompts. Actual results: prompts the user for input to resolve a manually changed /boot/grub/menu.lst. User impact: this messes up automation; it is a common use of cloud images for users to automate their server deployments which generally involves running a dist-upgrade and then bootstrapping some kind of configuration management system. This means that we cannot SRU grub2 without breaking some set of users in a fairly common use case of cloud images until users start using newer images with the new SRU'd grub2 rolled in. - Workaround: users can use something like: UCF_FORCE_CONFOLD=1 apt-get - update apt-get -y dist-upgrade. Note that to avoid prompts in various - other cases users should also set DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive, run - apt-get with -o Dpkg::Options::=--force-confdef -o Dpkg::Options - ::=--force-confold and consider redirecting stdin from /dev/null. + Workaround: users can use something like: apt-get update + UCF_FORCE_CONFOLD=1 apt-get -y dist-upgrade. Note that to avoid prompts + in various other cases users should also set + DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive, run apt-get with -o Dpkg::Options + ::=--force-confdef -o Dpkg::Options::=--force-confold and consider + redirecting stdin from /dev/null. Investigation: I noticed that running sudo update-grub-legacy-ec2 before dist-upgrade works around the problem. This is because ucf updates the entry for /run/grub/menu.lst in /var/lib/ucf/hashfile, at which point it doesn't believe that the configurable snippet in menu.lst has changed locally in a future run. I suspect that menu.lst is being changed without ucf being updated in the image build process. Line 421 _xchroot ${rootd} /usr/bin/ucfr --purge grub /var/run/grub/menu.lst in vmbuilder-cloudimg-fixes (r699) looks like it works around the issue, but I don't think the workaround is working because calling /usr/bin/ucfr --purge grub /var/run/grub/menu.lst doesn't clear the entry from /var/lib/ucf/registry after the instance is launched either. It seems that ucfr is normalising the path to /run/grub/menu.lst but the registry stores the denormalised path so it fails to match. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1485685 Title: Users are prompted on upgrade of cloud images To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1485685/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1485248] Re: No hardware acceleration out-of-the-box with Intel HD GPU
It may not ve very powerful but it's definitely more powerful than that. Look at this: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Graphics-4000-Benchmarked.73567.0.html On Windows, they get around 30-40 fps with several videogames which render much complex scenes than the ones that yield me 18 or less. And 60fps is what your panel refresh rate is. I don't get why that should be a limit. There's a GpuTest tool that renders a single big triangle, and this gets around 1000 fps. By the way, it consumes 50% cpu (i.e. one full core), showing that it's not using any hardware acceleration, and that's rendering one triangle. Not software rendered: [32;01myes[00m Not blacklisted: [32;01myes[00m ... Is that reliable? Is there a benchmarking tool that can draw graphics and actually tell me whether all of those feature are being used from the GPU? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1485248 Title: No hardware acceleration out-of-the-box with Intel HD GPU To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/1485248/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1471903] Re: -updates, -security missing from apt lists
it was a wily chroot (I didnt have a vivid one at hand) but that should only vary minimally. note that we force deb-src for all entries (since up to now we could and it eases development a lot, i guess if you really want to ship the pre- generated lists, we'd have to reverse this decision (and check if there are any developer tools that make use of these entries)) while we dont enable -proposed, we do enable the overlay PPA (including source as above), which should bring roughly a similar amount of package entries in as -proposed does (a growing number somewhere between 100 and 200). i think with the current sources.list setup that is shipped my numbers are not far off. could we not consider some other solution inside apport ? like making it use a simple manifest file instead of apt to determine if a package in the readonly image is valid. after all we dont officially support making the system writable and using apt so the manifest generated at build time will have accurate data for our use cases and is only a few kilobyte big.
[Bug 1468897] Re: multipath creates binding for Removable(USB) drives
** Description changed: + [Impact] + Users installing with a USB key attached to the installing system, or adding a USB key on an installed system with multipath enabled will see the USB devices picked up by multipath. This is confusing because it changes the paths required to be used to access/mount/format the USB drives to paths under /dev/mapper, with mpath names. + + [Test Case] + 1) Attach a USB key on a system with multipath enabled; either from the installer (booting the installer with USB attached), or on an installed system. + 2) See that the device is picked up by multipath-tools and shows up in the output of 'multipath -ll' and under /dev/mapper with the same name as provided by multipath -ll. + + [Regression Potential] + Some USB 3.0 devices *can* support multipath; users of such custom configurations will see USB devices not being considered as multipath devices. Other devices which should be considered as multipathed may not be picked up anymore. + + + On a system with a multipath configuration, multipath bindings are being created for removable(USB) drives rendering them inaccessible as normal removable drives. in this case, the usb drive is detected as /dev/sdi: # lsblk|grep -A2 sdi - sdi8:128 1 14.7G 0 disk - ├─sdi1 8:129 1 14.7G 0 part - └─mpath4 (dm-9) 252:90 14.7G 0 mpath - └─mpath4-part1 (dm-10) 252:10 0 14.7G 0 part + sdi8:128 1 14.7G 0 disk + ├─sdi1 8:129 1 14.7G 0 part + └─mpath4 (dm-9) 252:90 14.7G 0 mpath + └─mpath4-part1 (dm-10) 252:10 0 14.7G 0 part - # cat /etc/multipath/bindings + # cat /etc/multipath/bindings # This file was created by curtin while installing the system. mpath0 1IBM IPR-0 5EC25980 # End of content generated by curtin. # Everything below is maintained by multipath subsystem. mpath1 1IBM IPR-0 5EC25960 mpath2 1IBM IPR-0 5EC25940 mpath3 1IBM IPR-0 5EC25920 - mpath4 1ADATA USB Flash Drive + mpath4 1ADATA USB Flash Drive Upon trying to format /dev/sdi1: # mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdi1 mke2fs 1.42.9 (4-Feb-2014) /dev/sdi1 is apparently in use by the system; will not make a filesystem here! @Oliver Yes we are shipping package lists today. Check the ubuntu-touch generated rootfs - /var/lib/apt/lists has vivid packagelists and the stable-phone-overlay packages lists. [Bug 1471903] Re: -updates, -security missing from apt lists
@lukasz wow, that is seriously wrong, there was code that completely wiped them on purpose, someone must have removed the livecd-rootfs patches the OEM team added in the beginning. this clearly cuts down the numbers that we used to compute the partition sizes. back when we did that there were no such files, i see 66M on my phone used currently, this needs to go. we can make /var/lib/apt/lists writable instead and have a wrapper for apport-cli that updates the packages lists on the first run. @robie out of 10 million users, how many do you expect to use apport-cli ? 1000 ? 5000? should the rest really suffer by having size limitations just for these few while we can have better solutions like creating these files on the fly, having them pre-generated on a server where we can download them or simply fixing apport to not need them and use a manifest file ? the whole thing is moot as soon as we switch to snappy where we don't even have apt. lets pretty please fix this properly in apport and not by wasting more space on disk that we havent initially accounted for.

[Bug 1485955] [NEW] [upstream] EDITING: Background Color button from Table toolbar should change cell background instead of paragraph background
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: 1. Launch LibreOffice Writer 2. Insert table to the new document (Table - Insert - Table) 3. Write some multirow text in table cells 4. Try to change cell background: 4.1. place cursor on desired cell 4.2. select color from palette from Background Color drop-down (located on Table toolbar). 4.3. click Background Color button on Table toolbar. Expected results: background color of TABLE CELL (where cursor was) is changed to desired color. Actual results: background color of TEXT PARAGRAPH (where cursor was) is changed to desired color. Workaround: There is slow non-intuitive background - select whole cell, select color from palette from Background Color drop-down (located on Table toolbar), click Background Color button on Table toolbar. [Bug 1471903] Re: -updates, -security missing from apt lists
I think the solution of removing the patch is still ok since as Brian mentioned, -updates and -security enabled only increases the size slightly. The overlay PPA in apt lists is not related to this bug as we already have those in our read-only images. There was no patch that would remove those, so this change would not affect this. Sure, we can think of a better way later to remove the overlay apt lists or make those not required, but I suppose in the meantime removing the patch that's deleting -updates and -security is vaild. So I'm still +1 on removing the patch.
