[Bug 1689008] [NEW] package should be installed by default on xubuntu

[Bug 1673864] Re: simple-scan not working with canon pixma mx475 / sane problems

2017-05-07 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
jfbus, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

1) Did this issue start happening after an update, or has it always not worked
with Simple Scan?
2) Is the problem reproducible when connecting to the scanner via WiFi and USB?
3) To see if this is already resolved in Ubuntu, could you please test
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise to the results?

[Bug 1689020] [NEW] Touchpad edge scroll stops working randomly

2017-05-07 Thread Tomasz Früboes
Public bug reported:

As in summary - touchpad edge scroll stops working randomly. This seems
to be software related, since switching to another window with alt-tab
fixes the problem (at least for some time). Going back to the original
window (this time switch method does not matter, i.e. can be via
clicking on taskbar) keeps the edge scroll working

This is kubuntu 17.04, kwin version is 4:5.9.4-0ubuntu1.

I'm using dell vostro 2520 laptop. Relevant part of the xinpunt output
is the following:

⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointerid=4[slave pointer (2)]

Re: [Bug 1565106] Re: Wifi works on W10 but not on Ub 16.04 nor 14.04

2017-05-07 Thread winux
Hi Christopher

Are you sure?
Because as far as I understood, 16.04 is a LTS and shoud last 5 years,
actually I'm running 17.04 which is a STS (9 months), meaning that myself
and others will have to install 18.04.

I say others because yesterday I wanted to install 16.04 on a friend's PC
(an Asus), but same Pb as on the HP, no wifi, I had then to install 17.04,
but he/I will have to install 18.04 as well, is it a normal procedure not
to reverse the bug fix to the LTS till this version is supported ?

Have a nice day anyway and again congratulation to the team

[Bug 1083237] Re: Ignore Steam files by default

2017-05-07 Thread Saroumane
Mokrates : you can't, it's hardcoded. (no jokes !)

Because of Déjà Dup, I also lost data 1 year ago, and created a bug
report : https://bugs.launchpad.net/deja-dup/+bug/1562357

But it's been completely ignored.

My conclusion :

"As deja-dup project seems more or less inactive, and can't be used as a
reliable backup for steam users, I suggest everyone affected to use "Back in
time". With this software :
- backup settings can be changed
- backup operation eats a lot less CPU, and is faster (for me)
- data is easy to access, you don't even need the backup software"

[Bug 1689020] Re: Touchpad edge scroll stops working randomly

2017-05-07 Thread Tomasz Früboes
I think I've found a way to trigger this - try scrolling while holding
alt. After this, scrolling wont work in any window. To unblock scrolling
just press alt again.

So most likely this has nothing to do with touchpad scroll.
Unfortunately I have no way to test this with a mouse now.

[Bug 1688765] Re: Can't login in Gmail account

2017-05-07 Thread Marcel Balciunas
Same problem here. Google pushed a new login screen for 2 factor
authentication and some apps stopped working, like Epiphany, Gnome
Online Accounts and Thunderbird.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-online-accounts/+bug/1687019
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1446817

I was told that the 52.1 version of Thunderbird fixed this issue, but
I'm not using since it's not in the Ubuntu Zesty repositories yet.

If this can be confirmed, maybe just pushing the newer version of
Thunderbird to Ubuntu repos is enough.

Right. Missing video hardware acceleration (and missing audio, ACPI) was
due to the kernel extras package not installed. Corrected this situation
and now giving 4.10.0-18 another try.

[Bug 1671360] Re: System doesn't boot properly on Gigabyte AM4 motherboards (AMD Ryzen)

2017-05-07 Thread Jaka Jaksic
If pinctrl causes issues with certain hardware, but is required for
certain other hardware, and if it isn't possible to automatically
determine which is which, then it would make sense to make it
controllable through a boot flag (like acpi=off).

While having to specify a boot flag is still less than ideal, it is far
preferable to having installing a different distro or build a custom
kernel.

[Bug 1689018] [NEW] Cannot boot anymore on acpi failures

2017-05-07 Thread z87prouser
Public bug reported:

With kernel 4.10.0-20-generic, the system prints "usb 3-4: string
descriptor 0 read error: -22" and then booting completely stops. I have
tried a variety of bios tweaks, but the motherboard is not recent and
there are no bios updates.

I believe that this is a regression because this message does not
prevent the system from starting in 4.10.0-19-generic.

[Bug 1652525] Re: DNS leak in ubuntu 16.10

2017-05-07 Thread jordi miralles gurí
So, as promised, the logs. The only thing I needed to replicate the
issue was to add again a DNS server on the network manager
configuration. I found out that removing it from there + using UFW was
doing the trick (meaning the test didn't crash when tried to resolve
using the alternative DNS server and the possible rogue requests are
stopped).

For this I'm using openvpn on the CLI. The issue was more or less the
same for the openvpn-nm applet but I wasn't able to find a way to get it
to work there.

For connecting I use ovpn files with these options:

client
dev tun
proto udp
remote us-ga.gw.ivpn.net 2049
auth-user-pass /home/tux/pass.txt

resolv-retry infinite

[Bug 1686254] Re: OpenVPN auto-connect options greyed out or missing for no reason

2017-05-07 Thread jordi miralles gurí
Hi, do you mean on the "Network connections" menu where you select the
network connection to use? If it's correctly listed under "VPN" that you
won't have the "automatically connect to this network at startup", you
need to designate a real network interface that will be brought up on
boot (like wired) and then select on that interface options to
automatically connect to the VPN when brought up.

The VPN is creating a virtual interface (tun0 usually) but it needs
first that an actual interface is up and able to send/receive the
packets for the TLS handshake (and the rest of the packets later too,
actually), so it doesn't look like a bug to me ? Are you able to check
those two options on any other network connection?

[Bug 1671360] Re: System doesn't boot properly on Gigabyte AM4 motherboards (AMD Ryzen)

2017-05-07 Thread Ondrej Masek
Just got this from Gigabyte Support:

"Hello,
Sorry but Gigabyte do not guarantee Linux Platform on the desktop motherboard.
It support for Windows 10/7."

Extremely helpful :/

In the meantime, I booted the Kubuntu install ISO with acpi=off setting.
The same option was required for the first boot after install. Kernel
version 4.10.0-21 compiled by kaihengfeng on
http://people.canonical.com/~khfeng/lp1671360-2/ seems to work fine, the
only thing to report is a long boot time.

Thanks Kai-Heng Feng!

2017-05-07 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Damiön la Bagh / Paul Mathijssen, it will help immensely if you filed a new

that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information
running the following from a terminal:

[Bug 1584740] Re: Libreoffice impress hanging and high cpu on slide operations

2017-05-07 Thread rotten
I'm using 17.04 on a new Dell 7720 laptop (64G Ram, 8 Cores, M1200
Nvidia GPU, Enterprise grade SSD's, 17" monitor). This is also
happening to me. Switching to look at my presentation with a slide show
does not work. It just hangs. Sometimes if I press random buttons and
mouse clicks, I'll suddenly find myself partway through the slide show,
but I can't advance a slide or go back.

Escape gets me out of the presentation mode after minute or two.

I have not been able to view a single presentation in slideshow mode
yet. I tried giving libreoffice more memory for image caching, but that
didn't seem to do anything.

Am I to understand the workaround is to remove libreoffice-gtk3 and
install libreoffice-gtk?

[Bug 1686329] Re: System freezes randomly after upgrading to ubuntu 17.04

2017-05-07 Thread Mario
Hope the following description belongs to this bug, couldn't easily find
something more similar:

After a fresh install of 17.04 (with standard packages) on my Dell
Latitude E7240 some 10 days ago, my system seems to show similar
phenomena, however, I could recognise that the final freeze is a
consequence of a staged process happening beforehand:

1. E.g. (T)hunderbird or (F)irefox is getting what is (afaik) called a
Zombie process, however, instead of "Z", T/F are marked with "D" (for
disk) in top, running at 100% and not killable via top or kill -9/-15.

2. Machine load is slowly going upwards (within 4-5 min or so) until I
can't switch windows or desktops anymore, neither can I switch to the
text console to initiate an ordinary "shutdown (-R) now".

3. I have to perform a hard ACPI reset per button.

This happened already 4 times since I have installed 17.04.

According to what I found on the web,
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/5642/what-if-kill-9-does-not-work
it seems to be a peripheral/driver/filesystem/interrupt related problem.
However, this exceeds my knowledge.

Hope to get some help, or hope to have contributed worthy information.

[Bug 1565106] Re: Wifi works on W10 but not on Ub 16.04 nor 14.04

2017-05-07 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
gerard, I am closing this report because as per
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1565106/comments/51
the bug has been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu.

If using 16.04, one would want to use the enablement kernel as noted in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack for later kernel
fixes.

[Bug 1602888] Re: Dell Inspiron 7559 fans do not shut off once started, even when cool

2017-05-07 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Occams Beard, as per your comment
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1602888/comments/73
the issue "fans do not shut off once started, even when cool" was
resolved. Did you reopen this report because it stopped happening after
an update? If so, it's best to file a new report targetting a regression
after a fix, versus reopen a closed report.

[Bug 1584407] [NEW] ACPI Error: [\_SB_.PCI0.XHC_.RHUB.HS11] Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND (20150930/dswload-210)

2017-05-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

[ 0.016192] ACPI Error: [\_SB_.PCI0.XHC_.RHUB.HS11] Namespace lookup failure,
AE_NOT_FOUND (20150930/dswload-210)

[ 0.021348] ACPI Error: 1 table load failures, 7 successful
(20150930/tbxfload-214)

I have noticed this ACPI error persisting in my syslog and dmesg. Based on what
I have learnt from ACPI, acpitool -w and lspci, I think the error is related
to Namespaces provided in the DDST on \_SB_.PCI0.XHC_.RHUB.HS11, which I think
concerns the Root → System bus tree → PCI bus → USB controller: Intel
Corporation Sunrise Point-H USB 3.0 xHCI Controller (rev 31) in my system. I
have not found what .RHUB.HS11 refers too. I have tried changing my UEFI USB
settings but to no avail. Appreciate help to fix this bug.

I reported it as a question
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/293489 and to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1553690.
https://launchpad.net/~penalvch advice me to make this ubuntu-bug
report.

[Bug 1683760] Re: ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad inconsistently detected (Lenovo Y700 15ISK)

2017-05-07 Thread DevenPhillips
I do not believe I owned this laptop far enough back to have installed
15.10. I believe the first installation I put on it was 16.04.

Additionally, I tried the kernel boot param of "i8042.kbdreset=1". When
I booted up the next time I saw the following output from xinput:

$ xinput
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointerid=4[slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ PS/2 Elantech Touchpadid=14 [slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3[master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button id=6[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Video Bus id=7[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button id=8[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Sleep Button id=9[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Yubico Yubikey 4 OTP+U2F+CCID id=10 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Lenovo EasyCamera id=11 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Ideapad extra buttons id=12 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=13 [slave keyboard (3)]

But almost as soon as I started to move the pointer around the touchpad
locked up (pointer stopped responding) for about 5-10 seconds and then
started working again, but now the output of xinput looked like:

$ xinput
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointerid=4[slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse id=14 [slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3[master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button id=6[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Video Bus id=7[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button id=8[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Sleep Button id=9[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Yubico Yubikey 4 OTP+U2F+CCID id=10 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Lenovo EasyCamera id=11 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Ideapad extra buttons id=12 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=13 [slave keyboard (3)]

Checking out dmesg, I saw:

[ 33.327457] psmouse serio1: Touchpad at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost
synchronization, throwing 2 bytes away.
[ 33.880155] psmouse serio1: resync failed, issuing reconnect request
[ 37.823561] psmouse serio1: Failed to deactivate mouse on isa0060/serio1
[ 38.259688] input: PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse as
/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input20
[ 38.381415] systemd[1]: motd-news.timer: Adding 25min 26.475299s random time.

So, as you can see, even when it does get detected as a touchpad it will
not remain functional for long.

I hope this helps!

Deven

[Bug 1351939] Re: Sending USSD message does not work

2017-05-07 Thread John Smith
I wonder if I could be of any help with this?
Could I contribute any error message?
Could I be of help in testing?

I'd like to see a solution to this issue.
