[Bug 1726717] [NEW] Alignment of external screen limits placing of icons

2017-10-24 Thread Rüdiger Kupper
Public bug reported:

Reporting against gnome-desktop since I do not know better. Please
assign to appropriate package. Thanks!

Using external monitors with the gnome desktop behaves unexpected in a few
ways. One is, that the alignment of screens limits, where icons can be placed
on that screens:
My external monitor is higher than the internal screen of my laptop. I have
aligned the screens at the bottom. This makes the bottom part of the (external,
higher) screen unusable for placing icons.

This is probably best seen on the attached screenshot.
Thanks for caring!

[Bug 1726656] Re: package mysql-server-5.7 5.7.20-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-10-24 Thread Kees Hoekzema
I had the same problem. It turns out it was mysql_upgrade exiting with
an 'Error occurred: The mysql.session exists but is not correctly
configured. The mysql.session needs SELECT privileges in the
performance_schema database and the mysql.db table and also SUPER
privileges.'

The way mysql_upgrade tries to check this requirement is with the query
'SELECT SUM(count)=3 FROM ( SELECT COUNT(*) as count FROM
mysql.tables_priv WHERE Table_priv='Select' and User='mysql.session' and
Db='mysql' and Table_name='user' UNION ALL SELECT COUNT(*) as count FROM
mysql.db WHERE Select_priv='Y' and User='mysql.session' and
Db='performance_schema' UNION ALL SELECT COUNT(*) as count FROM
mysql.user WHERE Super_priv='Y' and User='mysql.session') as user_priv'
which is quite a stupid way to do that.

And this failed in my case because i have 2 mysql.session users, one on
localhost and one with '%' as host, so even tho my users were set up
_exactly_ as mysql_upgrade demanded, it didn't warn me about the
multiple users. Great check... Deleting one caused mysql_upgrade to pass
and the dpkg system to return to normal (with an apt-get install -f)

[Bug 1723857] Re: onscreen keyboard appears whenever i touch touchscreen

2017-10-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1721315 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1721315

Well I experience the same issue without using a stylus or keyboard and
I was tracking bug 1721315. The pre-conditions may be unimportant so
let's assume it's the same bug. If it's not then please clarify in the
description here how this one is different.

As for X11 vs Wayland, for high-level behaviour like whether something
is displayed at all, those should always be the same for both X11 and
Wayland. So that distinction should be irrelevant until proven
otherwise.

It's also not necessary to copy the entire contents from an upstream
bug. Although for some bug trackers LaunchPad will do it automatically.

Bug 1721315 is also older than this one, which is preferred when
deduplicating bugs.

2017-10-24 Thread Boris Malkov
I've tried to upgrade from 16.10 to 17.04 and got the same error.

Changed /usr/sbin/do-release-upgrade from

print(_("For upgrade information, please visit:\n"

to

print(_("For upgrade information, please visit:\n %(url)s\n") % {

and upgrade have started.

@Kai: In #3 I already mentioned the latest working 4.12 kernel and the

[Bug 1726730] [NEW] IPRoute pkg is in different version than kernel

2017-10-24 Thread eloy coto
Public bug reported:

Hello,

At the moment there is a problem with Iproute package in Zesty and
artful.

In Zesty the kernel version is 4.10.0, and the Iproute package is 4.9.0.
In Artful the kernel version is 4.13, and the Iproute is 4.9.0 too.

This is causing some problems in the BPF/XDP setup, some code is in the
kernel but doesn't have the same version in Iproute, so it'll fail.

Found the problem using cilium project
 and the problem was
validated by Daniel Borkmann (iproute mantainer)

I didn't find any related bug related to updating. If you need help to
test/update, I can help you.

Regards and many thanks.

[Bug 1618188] Re: systemd journal should be persistent by default: /var/log/journal should be created; remove rsyslog from default installs

2017-10-24 Thread Merlijn Sebrechts
Let's give this discussion another dimension. Non-persistent logging as
default made it impossible to debug a critical `fwupdate` bug where the
OS doesn't boot after a firmware update:
https://github.com/rhboot/fwupdate/issues/86

Please, please, just enable persistent logging by default. Systemd logs
a lot more than rsyslog and having at most 2x logs is a small price to
pay for the debug/support benefits.

yes, in general, you should use the default GCC version. Older versions

[Bug 1657256] Re: Percona crashes when doing a a 'larger' update

2017-10-24 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
FYI:
- Done reviewing branches in general
- Niedbalski and I fixed several things already (whitespace, versions, correct
author attribution, rebase to correct base versions, ...)
- X branch looks good and builds/tests fine
- T branch FTBFS on all !x86 in [1]
- Z branch FTBFS on all !x86 in [1]

TODO:
- Niedbalski to look into the Zesty build issues
- Niedbalski to look into the Trusty build issues
- Niedbalski to test the Zesty&Trusty builds once working

Note: please look in the MPs for more details (build logs, fixups and so
on)

[Bug 1726747] [NEW] Maintainer: should be the canonical-kernel-team or similar

2017-10-24 Thread Andy Whitcroft
Public bug reported:

This package is maintained by the canonical-kernel-team/HWE team.
Therefore we should update the Maintainer: field to match that in the
other kernel packages, so they whine at us not Sergio. Also we should
update the copyright to include that we are also maintaining it.

[Bug 1592669] Re: postinst fails when daemon is not running (or is disabled by policy-rc.d)

2017-10-24 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi Jun,
If you use mysql but have it off/disabled for some reason to get over this on
upgrades until this is resolved:

1. enable the service so that it is started correctly
2. then do the update
3. then if you want disable it again.

If your service is instead stopped because you really no more use it,
but now on upgrades you run into this issue - you might as well consider
just removing the package.

[Bug 1724657] Re: Boot freeze with Ubuntu 17.10-beta2 on Surface Book

That's where I took my kernels from. And the earliest 4.13 in there is
4.13.0-041300rc1-generic as I already said in #3!!!
In #15 I was asking for something in between 4.12.14-041214-generic and
4.13.0-041300rc1-generic.

[Bug 1694922] Re: /etc/cron.monthly/ieee-data fails every month on redirected URLS

2017-10-24 Thread James Page
Confirmed; if you uninstall wget, the script still tries to use wget
(the checks for executables are not quoted so always pass).

If you fix that, then the curl call needs "-sL" to behave like wget
does...

[Bug 1726608] Re: Alt+Arrow in gnome-shell unexpectedly switches VTs

2017-10-24 Thread Iain Lane
Thanks for the report, but it's a console-setup and not a gnome-shell
bug. It's changing the keyboard mode under our feet.

I'm excited that you can trigger this from a chroot. The reproducer
seems kind of niche, but I guess it's up to you & cyphermox whether
you'd like to backport the fixes to stables (and whether they need
altering along the way).

[Bug 1209347] Re: "ipset -quiet list [set_name]" should not output.

2017-10-24 Thread James Page
I see what you are saying, and this behaviour persists to the current
release (artful).

However by using the 'list' operator, your kinda always going to get
some output as that's the action requested.

I'm going to mark this as a Won't Fix for Ubuntu as I'd not want to
change behaviour of ipset for Ubuntu alone; if you feel this should be
changed, or maybe a new operator be introduced to check for the
existence of a set then please report a bug to the upstream project
(https://bugzilla.netfilter.org/).

[Bug 1698682] Re: package python-lazy-object-proxy 1.2.2-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-10-24 Thread James Page
I keep tripping over this stacktrace; ConfigParser is part of python2.7;
but got renamed in python3 onwards to configparser so the debpython
version module is not Python 3 compatible.

If /usr/bin/python does not point to /usr/bin/python2.7 you might see
this issue - is that the case in this install?

Marking 'Incomplete' pending response from reporter.

[Bug 1703573] Re: package python-decorator 4.0.6-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-10-24 Thread James Page
Any chance /usr/bin/python is not a symlink to /usr/bin/python2.7?

ConfigParser is part of the Python 2.7 stdlib; in Python 3 its been
renamed to configparser, so the debpython module won't work with Python
3.

I'm going to mark this bug as Invalid; if the above is not true, please
set back to new.

[Bug 1724441] Re: No external network access for VMs

2017-10-24 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi,
thanks Michael for the report.
Looking into this from the libvirt POV.

This is - on the virtualization side - a known limitation of qemu:///session
Here an example to show the basics.

I first started with a test to confirm/debug the issue

test xml describing a most basic nat network:

# cat testnet.xml

  testnet

That works fine in a normal lifecycle in qemu:///system.
 $ virsh -c qemu:///system net-destroy testnet
 $ virsh -c qemu:///system net-start testnet
 $ virsh -c qemu:///system net-destroy testnet
 $ virsh -c qemu:///system net-undefine testnet

It also works fine if running on qemu:///session as root, but if being a normal
user that fails on the "net-start" action. The reason for this is a lack of
permissions of the normal user to e.g. define the bridge. In detail you see
like:
 $ virsh -c qemu:///session net-start testnet
 error: Failed to start network testnet
 error: error creating bridge interface testnetbr0: Operation not permitted

Now there is a way to resolve that usually in the form of
"/usr/lib/qemu/qemu-bridge-helper".
This is a special tool provided, but not further enabled/preconfigured mostly
for:
a) being an uncommon case
b) security concerns
So an admin (or another program using it) has to it set up as needed

I wonder if gnome-boxes did something about/with it before which now
doesn't work - but if so I don't know what - sorry.

If this is an issue in libvirt I'd need more details what worked before and
failed now.
Maybe you or some gnome people can uncover that?

[Bug 1675456] Re: package python-decorator 4.0.6-1 failed to install/upgrade: подпроцесс установлен сценарий post-installation возвратил код ошибки 127

2017-10-24 Thread James Page
pycompile is provided by python-minimal which is a direct dependency of
pretty much all python-* packages; why its not found is a bit of a
mystery - you can try reinstalling it:

  sudo apt install --reinstall python-minimal

to see if that helps? Also check if its already present and you have
something wonky going on with paths.

I'm confused. This bug was reported against 17.10 and you're saying it's
already fixed? That implies Brian hadn't updated since the fix on 19
September... ?!

pycompile is provided by python-minimal; as this is a direct dependency

not:

  sudo apt install --reinstall python-minimal

Marking this bug as 'Invalid' as its not specific to this python module.

[Bug 1716160] Re: System goes to sleep with external monitor and lid closed after login

2017-10-24 Thread Khurshid Alam
@Sebastien

Ok. I found some fault in the old patch.

 suspend_on_lid_close (GsdPowerManager *manager)
 {
+if (manager->priv->inhibit_lid_switch_action)
+return FALSE;
+
 return !external_monitor_is_connected (manager->priv->rr_screen);
 }

@@ -1242,6 +1247,26 @@ restart_inhibit_lid_switch_timer (GsdPow
 }

 static void
+setup_lid_closed_action (GsdPowerManager *manager)
+{
+GsdPowerActionType policy;
+
+if (up_client_get_on_battery (manager->priv->up_client)) {
+policy = g_settings_get_enum (manager->priv->settings,
"lid-close-battery-action");
+} else {
+policy = g_settings_get_enum (manager->priv->settings,
"lid-close-ac-action");
+}
+
+if (policy == GSD_POWER_ACTION_NOTHING) {
+   inhibit_lid_switch (manager);
+manager->priv->inhibit_lid_switch_action = TRUE;
+} else {
+uninhibit_lid_switch (manager);
+manager->priv->inhibit_lid_switch_action = FALSE;
+}
+}
+

The issue was:

Every-time lid state is changed, "setup_lid_closed_action" is performed
but it doesn't take account whether external monitor is connected or not
and automatically uninhibit the lid_switch & hence even if
"suspend_on_lid_close" = false; it can't work as we already performed
"uninhibit_lid_switch (manager)"

I slightly modified it:

+
+if (policy == GSD_POWER_ACTION_NOTHING) {
+   inhibit_lid_switch (manager);
+manager->priv->inhibit_lid_switch_action = TRUE;
+} else {
+   if (external_monitor_is_connected (manager->priv->rr_screen)) {
+   inhibit_lid_switch(manager);
+   manager->priv->inhibit_lid_switch_action = TRUE;
+} else {
+   uninhibit_lid_switch (manager);
+   manager->priv->inhibit_lid_switch_action = FALSE;
+}
+}
+}

I am testing this now. I will reply here soon.

[Bug 1713614] Re: package python-wrapt 1.8.0-5build2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 127

2017-10-24 Thread James Page
I've triaged a few of these today; please could you run the following
commands and provide the output in this bug report:

  sudo which pycompile

and please edit:

  sudo vi /var/lib/dpkg/info/python-wrapt.postinst

and change

  set -e

to

  set -ex

and then run

  sudo dpkg-reconfigure python-wrapt

the call to pycompile is guarded on it being installed so this is a bit
odd.
