[Bug 601501] Re: Apache should tap into the shared-mime-info database

2010-07-06 Thread Delan Azabani
I believe you are wrong. /etc/mime.types is not the shared-mime-info
database I am talking about. I am aware that Apache uses
/etc/mime.types, which only has extension globbing, but no magic or
namespace detection. The shared-mime-info database is cascaded in the
following three directories (only the first two are necessary for
Apache):

/usr/share/mime
/usr/local/share/mime
/home/*/.local/share/mime

2010-02-21 Thread Delan Azabani
Then I guess I'm actually affected too. Ever since I can remember, PHP
files weren't parsed by default and I had to add that directive to
apache2.conf.

[Bug 445017] Re: When restarting indicator applet after its crash, it launches as root

2009-10-10 Thread Delan Azabani
I'm not sure. I can't now because I can't re add the applet. When in the
Add to Panel dialog, the Indicator Applet just adds the other one, a
little mail icon to launch Ekiga and Pidgin. I can't re-add the
indicator applet with your short UNIX username and the menu.

[Bug 447002] Re: [karmic] Nautilus crashes when dragging a file in from FileRoller

2009-10-10 Thread Delan Azabani
Download or create an archive then open it in file roller. It can be
tarred + gzipped, or anything. Open it in file roller, and have a
nautilus window nearby. Drag one or many files from file roller towards
the nautilus window. The moment the cursor touches the nautilus window,
Nautilus will crash.

Unfortunately I don't have any CLI output (which I should have obtained
when I could), because a latest update seems to have fixed it
indirectly. Nautilus and file-roller didn't have an update, but
something handling the drag-and-drop of various data types might have
been updated to fix this issue.

[Bug 446035] [NEW] iPod mounts as a normal disk in Karmic (gtkpod/others won't list the iPod), fine in Jaunty

2009-10-07 Thread Delan Azabani
Public bug reported:

When plugging in an iPod, Karmic mounts it as a removable disk, which in
turn makes it unlisted and inaccessible by any iPod managing software
like gtkpod because they rely on the fact that it's meant to be
recognised as an iPod. Jaunty mounts it fine, with the desktop icon
being an iPod rather than Karmic's removable disk icon.

However, lshal and lsusb detect it as an iPod.

[Bug 882937] [NEW] Glitches when using Bamboo Pen Touch with Gimp

2011-10-28 Thread Delan Azabani
Public bug reported:

I am having some odd glitches when using the Bamboo Pen Touch with
Gimp.

In Preferences Input Devices Configure Extended Input Devices...,
if I set the mode of the Wacom BambooPT 2FG 4x5 Pen stylus to
Disabled, which is the default, there are no glitches at all, but
pressure input is not recognised (see a.png). This is understandable and
not an issue.

If I change the mode to Screen, pressure input is recognised, but
weird glitches when drawing lines occur, whereby the x co-ordinate, y
co-ordinate, or both, intermittently 'jumps' to zero and back (see
b.png).

The glitches appear to depend on movement speed; when drawing slowly,
the glitches are very dense and frequent, but as I draw faster, the
glitches are more sparse (see c.png).

This is on a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10 with no changes.

[Bug 601251] [NEW] [Maverick] Rhythmbox/gtkpod can't write to iPad music database

2010-07-02 Thread Delan Azabani
Public bug reported:

Rhythmbox and gtkpod are currently able to fully read and write the iPod
databases. However, though the iPad uses a very similar database, and is
claimed to be supported by these applications (you can choose the xC497
model in the database setup), there are some problems stopping the
writing to the library.

Upon any database interaction (loading the iPad, adding music or videos,
deleting items) a warning appears: Unsupported checksum type. The iPad
says that it is syncing, but no changes take effect. I have noticed
though, that the files are correctly manipulated in the filesystem:
deleting an item makes it unplayable (as there is no file) but still
listed in the database. Adding an item copies the file, but fails to add
to the database.

After doing a bit of googling and code searching, I came across this
thread:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1481799

Will the iPad (using OS 3.2) work with libimobiledevice?
Yes it will. We tested access and all tools work as expected. Changes are in
GIT
and support arrives in the next releases.

So everything works?
Not everything. The iPad uses a “DBVersion 5″ for it’s music database and
apparently
a new hash algorithm. However, we’re already looking into it and hope to have
everything working before iPhone OS 4.0 arrives to keep people syncing fine.

This thread was a little while ago, but no further achievement has been
made concerning the writing to the database.

[Bug 601501] [NEW] Apache should tap into the shared-mime-info database

2010-07-03 Thread Delan Azabani
Public bug reported:

Apache has its own small MIME database, however it is quite limited.
Apache would benefit from sending files as the correct MIME type based
on the information searched in the shared-mime-info database, which
contains many more type definitions, as well as the facility for
magic/namespace detection.

[Bug 667725] [NEW] old framebuffer contents show momentarily on reboot

2010-10-28 Thread Delan Azabani
Public bug reported:

When I boot my computer, between plymouth and gdm, there is a momentary
display of the contents of the framebuffer of the end of the last
session. This generally won't happen if the last shutdown was normal, as
it's probably a blank screen or something. There are a few conditions
for this to happen:

- using nouveau driver with KMS
- it helps if the VTs are using the same resolution as X (using vga=) so that
resolution change doesn't hide it
- happens the most on hard reboots like SysRq+B

So basically, what I mean is that, say I had, a picture open, and I hard
reboot my computer, I will see the contents of my screen, with that
picture, between plymouth and gdm.

[Bug 668274] [NEW] sony vpcw218ag netbook fails to reboot

2010-10-29 Thread Delan Azabani
Public bug reported:

I've installed maverick desktop onto a sony vpcw218ag netbook. A problem
is that it hangs on reboot. With the splash off, I see the final
rebooting message on the screen, but it hangs there without actually
rebooting. Sometimes, the screen turns off and hangs the same way.

Having some experience with another laptop, the apple macbook 6,1, I've
noticed that it has the same problem as this laptop, and can be fixed by
adding 'reboot=pci' to the boot command line. I've tried this on the
sony, but it hasn't helped.

At the moment, I can't reboot the sony netbook without powering off
first (shutdown works, but reboot doesn't). Windows 7 that came
preinstalled works with reboot, so it's not hardware.

[Bug 665072] [NEW] clicking 'relaunch' on gnome-terminal error vertically shrinks window

2010-10-22 Thread Delan Azabani
Public bug reported:

If you run gnome-terminal like this:

and command is not runnable (doesn't exist, etc.) you will be prompted
to change the profile preferences or relaunch the command supplied.
Clicking relaunch works as expected but the window vertically shrinks by
one line each time you click it.

Test:
1. run gnome-terminal -x blah
2. click relaunch repeatedly when prompted
3. notice that window shrinks a bit each time

[Bug 667250] [NEW] logging out and back in a few times causes Xorg to hang and become sluggish

2010-10-27 Thread Delan Azabani
Public bug reported:

This is an odd bug that has only started happening recently in maverick.
If you log out and back in several times (this takes usually about 6-10
times to come into effect) then suddenly the new gdm/Xorg will become
extremely slow and Xorg will take up 100% CPU.

For example, though I don't think that this is an Nvidia bug, the Nvidia
logo that you normally see for a split second (or not at all usually)
appears for over three minutes, then the magenta background loads, with
the mouse cursor able to move once every 15 seconds or so. I can't even
use Ctrl+Alt+Backspace or switch to a tty; the only way to get out is
SysRq/REISUB.

Attached is an example of how slow it becomes so suddenly; the Nvidia
splash takes so long that I'm able to take out my phone and photograph
it.

[Bug 670759] [NEW] cheese: no device found, press escape, take photo, segmentation fault

2010-11-03 Thread Delan Azabani
Public bug reported:

In cheese, if you have no device plugged in, it gives you a warning
message up the top, and disables the take photo button. Oddly, if you
press the escape key, the button becomes enabled. Furthermore, clicking
the button when enabled, but no device plugged in, assumes that a device
is plugged in, and cheese segfaults.

Steps to reproduce:

1. make sure no camera devices attached
2. open cheese
3. observe how 'take photo' is disabled
4. press escape key
5. observe how 'take photo' is enabled (shouldn't be!)
6. press 'take photo'
7. observe segfault

There is no real need to change the code to double-check for a device
before taking a photo - we can just prevent the button from being
enabled on 'escape' and all should be good.

[Bug 670759] Re: cheese: no device found, press escape, take photo, segmentation fault

2010-11-03 Thread Delan Azabani
Need help from a cheese developer; I can't grab available devices from a
CheeseCameraPrivate object because the CheeseCamera priv-camera can't
be casted to a CheeseCameraPrivate without adding a whole bunch of
dependencies.

Thank you for reminding me of this. It doesn't seem to happen on the
Ubuntu-supplied 2.6.35-23, but did happen on 2.6.37 from git. I had
recently removed it; I will fetch it, install it and see if it happens
there, then apport-collect. Thanks!

[Bug 680002] [NEW] need support for combo audio port on macbooks

2010-11-22 Thread Delan Azabani
Public bug reported:

Macbooks have a single audio port that can function as a headphone or
microphone port depending on user setting. This can be controlled in Mac
OS X's sound preferences.

http://www.zacharytamas.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/sound-pref-1.jpg

Currently, Ubuntu only seems to be able to use the port as output, and
there is no place I can see to change this. Neither gnome-volume-control
and alsamixer seem to be able to control this feature.

[Bug 681290] [NEW] synaptic 'new in repository' unusually slow

2010-11-25 Thread Delan Azabani
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synaptic

The interface for the New in repository status in Synaptic is much
slower than any other view. Clicking on New in repository hangs
synaptic for 300-500ms on my computer. Clicking a package in that list
also has similar delays. In both instances CPU is 100% for that split
second. Compare this to other views (e.g. All, Installed, etc.) which
are instant to switch to and select packages in.

the New in repository status is really a search filter?

[Bug 674789] [NEW] various different crashes with gnome-system-log

2010-11-12 Thread Delan Azabani
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-log

There are two distinct types of crashes (one a segfault with weird list
behaviour where the log list gets replaced with eight dates, and
another, a sigabrt) I've encountered when closing logs with gnome-
system-log. If you close logs (^W) relatively quickly, then either of
these crashes occur.

1. log file list changes into days of the last week
This is especially odd. After closing several logs, the list gets replaced by
dates from the last week or so. See screenshot #1. Clicking any of these dates
segfaults the program:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

[Bug 674790] [NEW] 'too many open files' on natty mac live cd

2010-11-12 Thread Delan Azabani
Public bug reported:

The 20101112 live cd build of natty desktop for mac (natty-desktop-

no cursor is shown. The GUI does not work at all. Switching to tty1
reveals the problem.

[Bug 670759] Re: cheese: no device found, press escape, take photo, segmentation fault

2010-11-13 Thread Delan Azabani
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

In cheese, if you have no device plugged in, it gives you a warning
message up the top, and disables the take photo button. Oddly, if you
press the escape key, the button becomes enabled. Furthermore, clicking
the button when enabled, but no device plugged in, assumes that a device
is plugged in, and cheese segfaults.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. make sure no camera devices attached
  2. open cheese
  3. observe how 'take photo' is disabled
  4. press escape key
  5. observe how 'take photo' is enabled (shouldn't be!)
  6. press 'take photo'
  7. observe segfault

- There is no real need to change the code to double-check for a device
- before taking a photo - we can just prevent the button from being
- enabled on 'escape' and all should be good.

[Bug 662637] [NEW] live netboot install fails to set up dbus and nm-applet fails

2010-10-18 Thread Delan Azabani

[Bug 676305] [NEW] indicator-applet and indicator-applet-session and sensors-applet should depend on gnome-panel-bonobo

2010-11-16 Thread Delan Azabani

Upon upgrading to natty my indicator applets disappeared and could not
be re-added (it was missing from the Add to panel list).

The following thread recommended installing gnome-panel-bonobo which
actually fixed the problem:

indicator-applet and indicator-applet should probably depend on gnome-
panel-bonobo to avoid this problem.

[Bug 674764] Re: new 2.6.37-2-generic kernel from natty does not work

2010-11-19 Thread Delan Azabani
I have discovered the problem as to why these kernels won't add. update-
grub won't add Ubuntu kernels to the menu.lst when running on an
upstream kernel. If I manually add the kernel to the list, boot into it,
and run update-grub on an Ubuntu kernel, each image adds to the list
fine using update-grub. This Xen/non-Xen stuff is weird because I built
the upstream kernel using the .config file from Ubuntu's 2.6.35-23
kernel.
