[Bug 1511461] [NEW] keyboard shortcuts don't work well

2015-10-29 Thread Fernando
Public bug reported:

Some keyboard shortcuts don't work properly. For instance, if I hide the
'file' panel, Ctrl+S doesn't save. If I hide tools, F1 doesn't compile
and F7 doesn't show the PDF document. Moreover, Ctrl+R never works for
replacing but Ctrl+F always searches. This is too bad for me because I
like to get rid of all panels and rely just on shortcuts.

I'm running Wily updated from Vivid, which in turn was freshly
installed.

[Bug 1566596] Re: MBP 8,2 internal microphone stopped working

2016-04-07 Thread Fernando
I'm not 100% sure that I'm following you, but let me tell you what I've
done, according to what I've read in the bug report you've linked.

I've run a series of commands which yield the indicated output (see the
attachment).

In addition I've later edited the file:

/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

adding the following line at the end:

options snd_hda_intel index=0 model=mbp81

and reloaded alsa by running:

sudo alsa reolad

Nothing of this has resulted in the micro working at all.

Something else, trying to record from audacity a second time I've got
the following (possibly error) message,

Latency Correction setting has caused the recorded audio to be hidden before
zero.
Audacity has brought it back to start at zero.
You may have to use the Time Shift Tool (<---> or F5) to drag the track to the
right place.

[Bug 1511058] Re: No application indicator

2016-04-10 Thread Fernando
Nick, the version in the opensuse repository can't change bandwith
settings. The version in ubuntu's repos is outdated and has a big
usability problem. The other one has a much bigger functionality
problem. It's kind of strange that the new LTS version of ubuntuis going
to come with such a poor support for owncloud, which is becoming more
and more a must.

The internal microphone doesn't work in a Ubuntu Xenial installation.
The concrete model is Cirrus Logic CS4206. I've tested with the Xenial
live usb (2nd beta) and it doesn't work either, so it doesn't look line
I've broken something. However with the Wily live CD (both standard
Ubuntu and Kubuntu) it works.

2016-04-05 Thread Fernando
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Xenial 2nd beta. When booting, menus of applications like the
terminal or the system monitor don't appear. However if a log out and
then in they do. What I'm doing now is to log in twice every time I
boot, but I'd love to get some help on this in order to save some daily
minutes. Thanks!

[Bug 1572321] [NEW] owncloud network access is disabled

2016-04-19 Thread Fernando
Public bug reported:

Hi! In Xenial, with the client from the repos (2.2.1+dfsg-1), if I
suspend and resume the laptop, or if the internet connection is lost for
whatever reason and comes back, this is not detected by owncloud, which
shows a message saying that "No connection to owncloud at Network
access is disabled". The only way of getting it back is killing owncloud
and starting it again, which is very annoying. I would appreciate very
much any help with this, as it really interferes with my workflow.

[Bug 1572611] [NEW] Nautilus (files) doesn't lock to launcher

2016-04-20 Thread Fernando
Public bug reported:

I'm on an up-to-date Xenial. When I open nautilus, the icon shows up in
the launcher for about one second before disapearing. Nautilus keeps
running, but the icon is not there, in particular there is no way to
lock it, as it was up to this morning. The same happens if I mount, eg
my mobile phone.

I don't think that the idea is switching software, many of us connect to
an owncloud server that we don't manage. I switched to Fedora, but this
doesn't solve the bug in Ubuntu.

[Bug 1683043] Re: Black screen after installing virtualbox-guest-x11

2017-04-20 Thread Fernando
Sorry, I was wrong in my previous post and it seems I cannot edit it...

I uninstalled virtualbox-guest-x11 after upgrading and I wasn't able to
use the full-screen mode and also I have some graphical glitches. I
installed a new virtual machine and there are no graphical glitches and
it works in full-screen mode. I supposed that the virtualbox-guest-x11
was installed but is not but the module vboxvideo is loaded.

[Bug 1730514] [NEW] possible bug in folder name

2017-11-06 Thread Fernando
Public bug reported:

Dell XPS 13 9360 here with latest ubuntu (KDE). Clean install as sole
operating system. I had a scheduled firmware update that didn't proceed
on reboot. I run sudo fwupdmgr update --verbose and got (among other
stuff):

libfwup.c:1176 get_fd_and_media_path(): open of /boot/efi/EFI/fedora/fw
/fwupdate-GfuBQT.cap failed: No such file or directory

This is one of the common problems listed in
https://github.com/hughsie/fwupd/wiki/Common-Problems In this case it
might be a problem in the ubuntu packaging. The correct folder should
have been /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu/fw/ I mean ubuntu here, above it was
fedora!

The workaround was creating /boot/efi/EFI/fedora/fw/ as per the wiki.
It's said there that in the future version the folder will be
automatically created. Despite that, I don't see any reason to have a
fedora folder in my file system ;)

In my way to the workaround I found that archlinux has had a similar
problem. I copy here the link in case it helps:
https://bugs.archlinux.org/index.php?do=details_id=55815

Thanks for looking into this. My answers:

1) I do have it. I created the folder /boot/efi/EFI/fedora/fw/ and the
update went through.

2)

Still happening in 18.04. Since I have the Spanish version, it leads to

Well, now you've said that, I started to install it once, but was afraid that

Do you know what I have to do to fix that?

[Bug 1592177] Re: Built-in search almost impossible to use in GTK file chooser

2018-07-21 Thread Fernando
Still happening in Bionic. As suggested in the upstream bug report, this
comes from the old Ubuntu patches to restore the type ahead behavior,
which was removed upstream. Nautilus doesn't seem to be affected, it
behaves like intended upstream. The file picker, though, is currently
pretty broken in this sense, since neither full search nor type ahead
behaves properly.

"libx32ncurses5-dev" package, then the others. I hope so this be useful.

[Bug 1592177] Re: Focus drops from search input in GtkFileChooserDialog after first character, which stops searching (broken behaviour)

2019-01-19 Thread Fernando
I'd say the solution is to remove the
restore_filechooser_typeaheadfind.patch, see this commit:

https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+3.0/commit/?id=99cb6330706eadb58bf9d3c5b77120fdd5971189

After all, such patches were removed from Nautilus for a good reason. It
should also be removed from the file chooser, since currently it breaks
both behaviors. Both search and type ahead are currently broken, by
removing this, at least search will work, which is the upstream
behavior.

[Bug 1592177] Re: Focus drops from search input in GtkFileChooserDialog after first character, which stops searching (broken behaviour)

2019-01-19 Thread Fernando
Forgot to say, I've attached a screencast which hopefully will attract
the attention of someone able to fix this and to make a decision on how
to proceed. As you can see, when searching, unless you type extremely
fast, the first character is search and then the rest are dedicated to
type-ahead, not achieving any of the desired results (type ahead starts
with the second character).

Yeah, given that the most appropriate is a version upgrade, but I find a
bit strange have to report a individual issue in order for that to
happen as there are known pending security fixes. Perhaps it just speeds
up things if I understand correctly.

[Bug 1803838] Re: Mailman Upgrade to 2.1.29 - Ubuntu 16.04

2018-11-18 Thread Fernando
Hello Hans.
Thanks for the update.

I guess that would be the case maybe for Mailman 3.0 for example but in the
case we are talking about there are several security fixes that are related on
the changelog from version 2.1.20 to 2.1.29.
I believe the security issues that have been fixed on 2.1.20-1ubuntu0.3 are
fixes that were made available until that version on the source code, so to the
current latest version there are new pending bug and security fixes to be
applied to the package available in the package manager.

I don't think pushing a release upgrade is the best approach for a case like
this as it doesn't take any backports as necessary or anything that is rather
complex like a kernel dependency to be done or that involves other details.
There are plenty of reasons to keep running a LTS version with the latest bug
and security fixes applied to certain packages until is possible to do a
release upgrade.

It seems the backport would not be the case for this one as well.

Thanks for the tips about bug reporting. I tried to mark the proper
package affected but it seems it didn't work.

[Bug 1803838] Re: Mailman Upgrade to 2.1.29 - Ubuntu 16.04

2019-05-17 Thread Fernando
May I know why this was moved to Status incomplete e assigned to nobody
?

The issue reported continues, so the bug fixes between 2.1.20 and 2.1.29
still exists and the rationale is to keep them there until someone can
report that have been victim of an exploit ?

What is the sense of doing that knowing there are fixes publicized and
available ?

The argument the newer software versions are applied to newer releases
doesn't make sense. We are talking about a LTS version.

And we are even not talking about a major software version upgrade.

Hi Sebastien, thanks for your prompt reply. I'm in the latest LTS. I

[Bug 1592177] Re: Focus drops from search input in GtkFileChooserDialog after first character, which stops searching (broken behaviour)

2019-04-10 Thread Fernando
Thanks for the info about snaps, I somehow thought that they get the
file picker from the system, I don't really know how they work. Then, we
keep the tag verification-done-bionic and I'll wait until this GTK fix
arrives at snaps to test it. Thanks for your great work!

[Bug 1592177] Re: Focus drops from search input in GtkFileChooserDialog after first character, which stops searching (broken behaviour)

2019-04-10 Thread Fernando
libgtk-3-0/bionic-proposed,now 3.22.30-1ubuntu3 amd64 [installed]

This fixes the problem, this means that clicking on the magnifier button
I can search without the cursor jumping to the typeahead old behavior.
Nevertheless, if I open a file dialog and start typing, the default
behaviour is still typeahead. I do not whether this is intended or
should also be fixed.

Paul, you're right, I checked a while ago that this wasn't reproducible
in Eoan with the Yaru theme. Maybe this has to do with the fact that the
only-snap Chromium came when Yaru was already the default?

Snap, there's no other option, is there? Will apport-collect work for

other stuff, but I'd have no problem in reinstalling Chromium for

Yes, it's consistently there. I ran the snap for quite a while until I
had to move to Google Chrome because of MS Teams support (you know,
confinement tech). I reckon not many people open the file picker in a
browser, but it's something I constantly do due to my workflow.

[Bug 1876647] Re: Nautilus search in gnome-shell performance regression

2020-05-07 Thread Fernando
This is probably related to the following bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1874972

File search in overview mode is now always done full-text. I think that
the intended behavior is doing it exclusively by file name in overview
and optionally in nautilus. Please, confirm you're also affected by this
other bug and mark it there to attract attention.

[Bug 1882388] Re: Touchpad recognised as generic mouse

2020-08-19 Thread Fernando
I had to delete the mainstream kernel as I was having a horrible screen
tearing (my graphic card was not supported).

I left the kernel parameter "dyndbg='file drivers/input/mouse/* +p'"
and, although the issue still exists, it reduces the frequency of times
I need to use the "modprobe" workaround.

Any news?
