Problem with yum etc after installing Ubuntu 7.10.....
a. install ubuntu b. apt-get install yum* c. apt-get install git Next I tried "git", I got "command not found", but reattempted to "apt-get install git" will give me: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp# apt-get install git Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done git is already the newest version. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 211 not upgraded. I tried to yum install some other stuff, I got the following: There was a problem importing one of the Python modules required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was: No module named cElementTree Please install a package which provides this module, or verify that the module is installed correctly. I need git to do linux kernel development. b. I need flash for my firefox. So I downloaded the rpm file. So in Fedora Core, normally I will do "yum install xxx.rpm" where xxx.rpm is the downloaded flash rpm file from adobe, and yum automatically will do a recursive download of all dependent packages and install it at the same time. "rpm" cannot do that. Compiling Ubuntu 7.04's kernel from source

System->Preference->Sound also does not opened any GUI (a temporary icon "Starting sound" appeared in the panel below but after sometime it disappeared. But in /var/log/apport.log there is some info about gnome-sound-properties: apport (pid 13660) Tue Aug 5 16:24:12 2008: executable: /usr/bin/gnome-sound-properties (command line "gnome-sound-properties") apport (pid 13660) Tue Aug 5 16:24:12 2008: apport: report /var/crash/_usr_bin_gnome-sound-properties.0.crash already exists and unseen, doing nothing to avoid disk usage DoS And the _usr_bin.crash file can be sent if requested/needed. The system also does not seemed to have any sound at all.except for those from the pc speaker. But if I reboot to my other images (eg Fedora Core) there is no problem - basically machine is ok.
