l7or, thanks for your report, the problem you are describing is exactly the same as mine: every 5 seconds the messages May 16 20:05:31 notebook ide: failed opcode was: unknown May 16 20:05:31 notebook hdc: drive not ready for command Regardless of which terminal I'm looking at. At the same time, hald-addon-storage uses 100% CPU, and it takes some time for me to be able to sudo to kill the process. Afterwards, everything is back to normal. The hard drive activity light is also on (solid) while, and sometimes after, hald-addond is at 100%. I don' t have a Samsung drive; I have an ASUS DVD reader and a SONY DVD recorder. I don't think they use the same chipset, but if you want to continue to investigate in that direction, I can check to see which chipsets they use if it will help you isolate the problem. --Patrick On 5/21/07, Mathias Weyland [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi Patrick I perfectly agree with you that my problem and yours are quite different. [Bug 116150] Re: i get crash message from crash handler on login
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 115175 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/115175 Due to change of Artifex' license policy to do the head development of Ghostscript under GPL and the merger of the extra functionality of ESP Ghostscript (ESP Ghostscript is discontinued now), the packages gs-esp and gs-afpl got obsolete. They are both replaced by gs-gpl, version 8.60 or newer. I have already done a first test package: For Gutsy download all packages from http://www.linux- foundation.org/~till/tmp/ubuntu/gutsy/ghostscript/binary/ and do sudo dpkg -i *gs-esp*.deb *gs-afpl*.deb *gs-gpl*.deb to replace your ESP and AFPL Ghostscript by the new merged GPL Ghostscript. If you are running Feisty or older download the files from http://www.linux-foundation.org/~till/tmp/ubuntu/gutsy/ghostscript/ into the same directory. Then do sudo apt-get install build-essential sudo apt-get build-dep gs-esp gs-gpl dpkg-source -x ghostscript_8.60.dfsg.1-0ubuntu1.dsc cd ghostscript-8.60.dfsg.1 dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot cd .. sudo dpkg -i *gs-esp*.deb *gs-afpl*.deb *gs-gpl*.deb *ghostscript*.deb Answer every question which appears with y, so that all needed packages get installed. [Bug 88095] Re: [Feisty] uninformative error when resizing ntfs partitions
I've also experienced this. If windows wasn't shut down properly and the NTFS journal is incomplete, gparted will (understandably) refuse to resize it. This therefore affects both the live cd installer and the alternative installer. I had to run gparted by hand to find the error buried in a sub-sub-subs- sub-menu. After that I just needed to boot windows and shut it down cleanly to get everything to work. [Bug 88377] Re: Suspend to disk fails: image_size too small
OK, I created a new script in /etc/acpi/suspend.d/95-set-image-size.sh with the content: #/bin/bash echo 1048576 /sys/power/image_size That works fine. The script gets called by /etc/acpi/prepare.sh which in turn is executed from within /etc/acpi/hibernate.sh. It's also run when going into suspend to RAM mode but that doesn't hurt. I think creating a new file is better than altering an existing one for this way it won't be overwritten by updates. Anyway, where is the RAM content being written on the disk? On the swap partition? Then what if your RAM is full and the swap partition contains data as well? Or is a file used for hibernation? [Bug 114522] Re: sound (ALC880) does not work in Feisty
After some more tests and discussion on alsa-dev ML, I can consider the solution provided above as a valuable workaround. I think that the bug can be cancelled from launchpad, because probe_mask=1 allows sound to work. Moreover it seems that this has nothing to do with the kernel. Only Alsa modifications may make this behaviour to disappear. This seems to be related to the fact that the sound card is a mixed card sound modem such as described in [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ aplay -l Liste des PLAYBACK périphériques carte 0: Intel [HDA Intel], périphérique 0 : ALC880 Analog [ALC880 Analog] Sous-périphériques: 1/1 Sous-périphérique: #0: subdevice #0 carte 0: Intel [HDA Intel], périphérique 6 : Si3054 Modem [Si3054 Modem] Sous-périphériques: 1/1 Sous-périphérique: #0: subdevice #0 So, as a conclusion, in order to have such a sound card to work it is necessary to have the following line in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base : options snd-hda-intel model=clevo probe_mask=1 the model may vary depending on the laptop, but probe_mask=1 IS ncecessary. For more information, see alsa-dev mailing-list archive for Alsa 1.0.13 (and others) does not work on ALC880 topic. [Bug 116183] GTK's compose map is different to X's
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0 I'm guessing that GTK is the root cause of this. But basically, I can't type certain compose sequences in Mozilla, OOo or gnome-terminal that work in xterm or emacs. Or, the resultant sequences will be different. For instance, in emacs or xterm if I type Multi_key underscore A, I get a ā as defined in /usr/share/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose. However, if I enter it in any gtk application, I get ª. This is particularly irritating when entering pīnyīn, which uses characters like ǚ. I have yet to figure out what gtk expects me to hit to compose a character with a caron on it, or why it doesn't just let X.org do it for it. I've seen this in all Ubuntu releases from Dapper to Feisty, and I expect that this is the root cause behind Bug #98945 too. Note I'm using xkb directly to configure my keyboard, not gnome- keyboard-properties. Every time I start certain gnome-control-panel applications they will override this keymap and I will have to re-run xkbcomp to load the keymap I actually want. ** Affects: gtk+2.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- GTK's compose map is different to X's https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/116183 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
