[Bug 246367] Re: checkroot.sh blocks writing /var (fsck)
/var/run is a temporary read-write filesystem and is mounted by S01mountkernfs.sh very early on in the boot process. fsck can still write to /var/run even though the root filesystem is read-only, so I very much doubt that is the issue here. Bare in mind that the default Ubuntu configuration does not have a separate /var partition, so everyone would have this problem if this was really the cause of your issue. The only time that fsck would not be able to write to /var/run would be if the mounting of /var/run failed for some reason. Do you not get an error when fsck stops? Have you tried booting in recovery mode to look for errors? I also tried to reasign disk to /dev/mapper/isw_iwjidjqwMAIN1 or whatever name it was for the RAID thinking DMRAID could take over normal naming and that should be the problema but no, if I manually mount /dev/mapper or /dev/sda2 in busybox I am always receiving the message device is bussy Also, this is the problem, of course, initram is always reporting device is busy after installing dmraid and rebooting the system. :( -- dmraid package destroys initrd and render system unbooteable (ubuntu Hardy) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/245842 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 191475] Re: [hardy] media tab in file management preferences missing applications
I'm not sure how different packages identify themselves as being a media player; perhaps this bug should be filed against the VLC package for not registering itself somwhere? I still want an option at the bottom of the list Run this command so I can have some completely different program start, such as k9copy.. And I still want the menu to be duplicated under System Preferences Removable Drives and Media where it used to be. I still strongly believe that's the most 'intuitive' place people will look for it. And even if it wasn't, I also think that it's not a good idea for Ubuntu to make such confusing changes to the interface just when we're starting to get 'non-geeks' learning to use the OS. 2008/7/8 Philippe Piquer [EMAIL PROTECTED]: I also had to dig deep into Google to find a correct answer (at least one that work) for VLC. Yeah, suspend isn't working for me with kernel version 2.6.24-19-generic, either. [Bug 246394] [NEW] Please sync cedet 1:1.0pre4-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).
Public bug reported: Please sync cedet 1:1.0pre4-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main). Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped: In private conversation with Michael we concluded that all changes from ubuntu have been merged into the debian package. The ubuntu changes, that have been done by Michael as well can therefore safely be dropped. Changelog since current intrepid version 1:1.0pre4-2ubuntu1: cedet (1:1.0pre4-3) unstable; urgency=low * debian/control: - Remove dpatch Build-Depends. - Add VCS-Browser and VCS-Git fields. - Bump Standards-Version to 3.7.3. - Bump dependencies so that we force the new semantic package to build properly (Closes: #412015). * debian/copyright: - Add copyright notices to silence lintian. * debian/eieio.examples: - Remove linemark.el. * debian/*.emacsen-(install|remove): - Use /usr/share/info rather than /usr/info. * debian/*-install.el: - List explicit paths to add to the load path while compiling, and prohibit Debian's normal load files from starting. This should prevent problems like loading a new version of the semantic package without first loading the packages that it depends on. It should help to future-proof us against bug reports to this effect. It will also provide a slight speed boost during compilation, and prohibits 3rd-party packages from messing up our build (Closes: #484667, #440893). * debian/patches: - Manage this using git. * debian/rules: - Remove use of dpatch in favor of a simple patch invocations. - Add genpatches command for the maintainer to call to generate the contents of debian/patches. - Fix lintian warning about binary-arch. - Don't remove linemark.el from /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/eieio, at request of Étienne BERSAC. * debian/semantic.emacsen-install: - Don't compile semantic-example.el, since emacs-snapshot has issues with it. -- Michael W. Hm, they look like 2 completely different crashes. In the first crash, cheese terminates with SIGABRT, and in the second one it terminates with a segmentation fault. For the second crash, please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. In the meantime, it would be worth you trying to obtain a backtrace from that first crash. [Bug 224160] Re: ATI Mobility FireGL + hardy: GL Segmentation fault
Hi. This should work if you have same problem as I had: - segfault as normal user and no error as root: Run following command in shell: find /usr/lib -name libGL.so.1 -exec ls -al {} \; It will show something like: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 2008-05-23 10:10 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 - /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 2008-05-02 18:23 /usr/lib/xorg/libGL.so.1 - /usr/lib/fglrx/libGL.so.1.2 which means: I have found two files with this name under /usr/lib both are links pointing to some real file path and filename is behind - . Now list those real files: ls -al /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 ls -al /usr/lib/fglrx/libGL.so.1.2 It will show that modify time of file in /usr/lib/fglrx directory is much older than that of file in /usr/lib also sizes differs so /usr/lib is newer (hopefully also better) but running program is taking this older one first. So we need to move it out of the way (from directories where programs look for libraries. /usr/lib is one of default locations, /usr/lib/fglrx is usually defined in environment see env | grep LD_LIBRARY_PATH ). So you need to move files /usr/lib/xorg/libGL.so.1 and /usr/lib/fglrx/libGL.so.1.2 somewhere else f.e. /tmp/ (you can delete them but if something will go wrong you have problem} so run: sudo mv /usr/lib/xorg/libGL.so.1 /tmp/ sudo mv /usr/lib/fglrx/libGL.so.1.2 /tmp/ and than it should work. -- ATI Mobility FireGL + hardy: GL Segmentation fault https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/224160 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 244631] Re: too many open files
It seems the hang may be an issue with gnome-keyring as if I hit Control + C in the console while evolution is sitting there doing nothing it gets the following messages until it finally gives up and then evolution continues per normal. I will continue running to see if the too many files errors occurs. It's no longer happening on startup now, but I'll go download a couple hundred more emails and see. ^C ** (evolution:16330): WARNING **: couldn't read 4 bytes from gnome-keyring socket: Interrupted system call ^C ** (evolution:16330): WARNING **: couldn't read 4 bytes from gnome-keyring socket: Interrupted system call ^C ** (evolution:16330): WARNING **: couldn't read 4 bytes from gnome-keyring socket: Interrupted system call ^C ** (evolution:16330): WARNING **: couldn't read 4 bytes from gnome-keyring socket: Interrupted system call ^C ** (evolution:16330): WARNING **: couldn't read 4 bytes from gnome-keyring socket: Interrupted system call (evolution:16330): e-data-server-ui-WARNING **: Unable to find password(s) in keyring (Keyring reports: Error communicating with gnome-keyring-daemon) On Mon, Jul 7, 2008 at 1:40 PM, Eric Zeitler [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Chris: Running with the deleted cache results in evolution failing to completely start, no GUI, but process is active. Public bug reported: Hardware/Configuration: Ubuntu 8.04 AMD64 HP dv2000 laptop Intel GM965/GL960 Integrated graphics When playing a video none of the compiz effects display correctly. When the video is scaled, opacified, distorted, or shadowed over ugly static black or blue is displayed where the effect should be. When another video is opened (even another instance of the same video) it displays all the effects perfectly. In fact is is absolutely gorgeous - the video is skewed for angles when rotating the cube, and even reflects correctly (and skewed even), when that feature is turned on. It opacifies and shadows too! I can close the first video and the second one continues to display effects correctly. If I close both and reopen one the bug reappears. This was cross tested with VLC and the built in Movie Player. By cross- tested I mean opening two instances of vlc, an instance of vlc then movie player, and vice versa. Everytime the first video does render effects correctly whereas the second does. Subsequent videos also display effects correctly. Man I am impressed though - I have a ton of plugins running, and they all work seamlessly and quickly on the crappy built in video card. The reflection/scaling/skewing/opacifying of the video is especially impressive. [Bug 182716] Re: bcm4306, bcm4309, bcm4311, bcm4312 with b43 : Authentication with AP doesn't work.
You start out by saying that b43 does work, and end by saying that it needs to be fixed? Thanks for the info, though. I guess it will be nice if the switch actually works, because my Dell computer does have a switch for the wi-fi. I have b43 and ssb blacklisted, so the dmesg command gives me nothing. Maybe it's because I don't have a fresh boot? I'm using Ndiswrapper right now and it's working great. I'd rather have b43 working, of course. I do have some computers (not Dell, no switches) that will only work with bcm43xx, as Ndiswrapper seemed to freeze them up. -- bcm4306, bcm4309, bcm4311, bcm4312 with b43 : Authentication with AP doesn't work. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/182716 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
